38 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 09/23/2014

I recently purchased a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 laramie 4wd. Upon purchasing it, I went to the gas station to fill it with fuel in order to drive it home. With the fuel nozzle locked into the auto-fill position, as the tank neared full and shut the nozzle off due to pressurization, fuel shot out of the filler spot of the truck at least one foot. Fuel spilled on the ground, down the side of the truck, and on my shoes. This has occured every time I fill the truck up at every gas station, and I have filled up in three different states. Everytime the pump shuts off due to pressure, it's like the tank burps and shoots fuel out the filler spout of the truck at least one foot in the air, down the side of the truck, and all over the ground. I have been extremely lucky no to have been standing in front of the spout when the tank shuts off. This is an extreme fire hazard! I have read many forums about people complaining about this very issue, and the fix is to replace the entire fuel tank because there is a check valve in the fuel tank that has failed. This should be a recall!.

41 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 03/03/2014

The truck stalls at idle or low speeds after refueling. It happens every time. It is dangerous because the power steering goes out and the truck is very difficult to control. It has happened as I am entering off-ramps and proceeding through intersections. The problem is the vapor/liquid separator valve located at the top of the fuel tank. The valve is designed to prevent liquid fuel from entering the charcoal canister/emissions system. When the valve fails, liquid gas can enter the line and fill the charcoal canister. After refueling, the pcm on the vehicle detects a change in fuel level. Then, when the engine meets certain temperature and driving criteria, the pcm issues a purge command to the charcoal canister to remove the stored gas vapors. It’s at that point that all the liquid gas in the line gets sucked into the charcoal canister. The pcm expects to see gas vapors entering the intake manifold and it is prepared to adjust air/fuel mixtures to compensate. However, it is not prepared to see liquid gas coming into the intake. That’s what causes the engine to stall. Unfortunately, the only fix is to replace the entire gas tank. Chrysler does not sell the vapor/liquid valve as a separate unit. Once the tank is replaced and the charcoal canister purged, the problem goes away. This problem is well-known to Chrysler across a broad range of vehicles, including pickups, minivans and suvs. Chrysler settled with complainants on some models and years by agreeing to extend the warranty to lifetime, but refuses to acknowledge the problem outside of those vehicles. I am looking at a $1,300 repair bill for a known defective and unsafe part, the replacement for which Chrysler refuses to sell separate from the gas tank itself. I would be deeply grateful for any assistance you may provide.

44 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2010 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 12/30/2013

When I fill the tank and use the handle's clasp at the pump, gas overfills and spills. Doesn't matter what gas station or pump. I have to listen for the fill sound to change and stop it early. Took to dealership and they said a bad inlet check value. Said I need a new gas tank. I have warranty with a 100 deductible but I should not have to pay this since this is a known problem.

45 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 10/23/2013

Every time I fill fuel tank the engine starts stalling for up to and hour after. It now if it has more than a half of a tank, it not only stalls, but pushes raw gasoline out of yhe evap canaster. The truck is not safe to drive. The problem appears to be the same problem that Chrysler has had with Chrysler 300. It is malfunctioning shut off float that is allowing fuel to enter purge line. The float is part of the fuel tank and can only be fixed by replacing the $750. 00 fuel tank.

48 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 08/02/2013

The fuel emissions vent broke off of fuel tank. I can not fill my tank cause gas will spill all over the ground. Engine light comes on and gascap on milage display. Dodge told me $800 for a new tank. Said that it should not have broke off and it looked as if it has been that way for a while.

49 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 05/03/2013

The fuel tank on this truck leaks, the tank and the parts on it seem to be faulty, there are cracks were the fill tube is and tank is cracked, I beleave the tanks on these trucks are a fire and loss of life issue,, it looks as the materals the tanks are made with arnt ment to be used for a gas tank, to me its poor materal and desing of a gas tank, when I took it to the dealer to trouble shoot my problem, they wouldnt even put what the problem was on the service ticket, they tolb me I need a new gas tank, as a retired NJ state certified fire fighter, I see this a real life safety issue,.

50 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

Truck shuts of without warning, during low idle situation, either coming to a stop, or upon entering a turn at low speed, or even at a stop light. Idle falls to 500rpms, engine shudders and then shuts off. Usually only happens after fuel tank is filled full with gasoline. No check engine codes are present, no malfunctions seemingly present. Condition is sporadic, and unpredictable, and can cause loss of control of vehicle, as power steering shuts off. I have taken the truck to a dealership, and have had diagnostics ran on fuel systems, but no apparent reasons exist that could be tested. Service dealership recommended replacement of fuel tank, due to check valve malfunction, requiring full fuel tank replacement, but no garuantee of repair of problem. This is a dangerous malfunction, as the issue is sporadic, and happens during operation, usually whenever a turn or a stop is involved. Loss of power without notice creates a condition where the driver has to figure out whats going on before reacting, and can cause overruns, or dangers to other vehicles and motorists.

51 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 04/29/2013

While truck was parked and secured, a fire started in the wire harness above the gas tank. Fire was contained before vehicle became engulfed. Fire department and police department reports made. Insurance company investigated. Determined wire harness overheated and ignited gas vapor leaking from plastic fuel system lines. Due to use of plastic materials, fire spread rapidly, including the top of the fuel tank melting. Truck has been repaired.

52 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 04/06/2013

The 'check engine' light came on. It read 'gascap. " I took the truck to the local Dodge dealer, who smoke-tested the evap system and found a leak at the top of the fuel tank (toward the front) where two lines enter the evap system. Two nipples come out of a short cylindrical part of the tank itself. One of these is extremely thin, and it had sheered off, leaving its hose unattached. There is no way to repair this single part, as it is intrinsic to the fuel tank itself, thus necessitating the replacement of the entire fuel tank. I found a used one, and the owner of the used parts lot told me he had seen many such occurences. According to the mechanic at the dealership, the unattached hose presents a very grave safety issue. He told me not to smoke near that part of the vehicle, and that if a spark came up into that area the vehicle could explode. The nipple, according to the owner of the used parts yard, is a weak link in that particular design.

55 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

I have two issues which I believe are related. The anti rollover valve in the fuel tank is sticking preventing fuel from entering the tank properly and bubbling back up the filler tube. This happens whenever you attempt to put in fuel and has resulted in multiple fuel spills. The second issue is after a fill up the truck may stall 4-5 times while at idle at stop lights or even while rolling resulting in loss of power steering, power brakes and no advanced warning. Both issues have multiple occurrences. I repaired my fuel tank by adding an auxiliary anti-rollover valve and plumbing it into the existing evap connections. This after the dealer refused to warranty the tank even though some models have been recalled and this does have a bulletin published.

56 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 12/29/2012

Attempted to fill my gas tank. The fuel kept overflowing. I was only able to get $15 in gas as I had to slowly pump, wait for the overflow of gas to stop, then slowly attempt to add more gasoline. This took almost 15 minutes. The only reason I kept trying to get more gas in was the truck was on empty. In reviewing other similar complaints online, regarding this issue and with this vehicle, the symptoms are that of a faulty onboard refueling recovery valve. This problem creates many hazards with fuel and vapors not being contained.

Failure Date: 04/10/2012

I filled up my gas tank with fuel and as I was merging onto the highway, the car stalled. It continued to stall for about 50 miles. Now every time I fill up my tank it will stall on me until I drive about 30-50 miles and the tank is no longer full. It is very dangerous and I cant let my wife or family drive it for fear of stalling and having an accident.

61 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

When fueling using the pump auto shutoff feature the tank overfills and spits out approximately a pint of fuel that could easily ignite due to any nearby source of ignition. I strongly recommend not using the auto shutoff feature when fueling '08 Dodge pick up trucks.

62 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Dodge Ram 1500
