The alternator bracket is cracked. It could break causing the alternator to fall into the engine fan assembly. If somebody was working on the engine at the time of complete failure,serious injury or death will occur. Same goes for driving down the road and the failure could cause an accident. Dodge is well aware of this/has TSB's yet won't pay for the bracket.

2 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2007 Dodge Ram 3500

Failure Date: 06/11/2007

The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Ram 3500. On April 13, 2007, at 1,100 miles, the alternator failed and had to be replaced. On may 22, 2007, June 14, 2007, July 13, 2007, and August 11, 2007, the check engine light illuminated. On each occasion, the catalytic converter was diagnosed to be 100% full and had to be replaced. On October 3, 2007 the computer system was updated. On November 2, 2007 a diagnosis displayed five different codes and the computer system was reset. At that time, the contact was informed that the catalytic converter would be replaced until the warranty ran out. After that, the repair would be his responsibility. The current mileage was 62,000 and failure mileage was 12,000. Updated 11/21/07.

3 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2003 Dodge Ram 3500

Failure Date: 05/01/2004

The vehicle was taken to the dealership for routine maintenance. The technician noticed that the alternator bracket was broke. . The dealer indicated that a service bulletin was issued for this problem. The vehicle is not covered under warranty.

4 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2000 Dodge Ram 3500

Failure Date: 07/01/2000

Consumer states this is the second major problem they have experienced with the engine, in March the engine was rebuilt, the oil was changed 1-2 weeks prior to the fire, the fire appeared to have started from the alternator, the fire caused the battery to melt and acid got all over, the fire was contained to the engine compartment, claim 16-n124-673.
