Dodge Ram 3500 owners have reported 20 problems related to wiring (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
My 2011 mega cab 3500 was purchased in Nov of 2018 with only approx. 110k miles on odometer. After a short while of driving, a vibration started getting worse up until I took to a dealer at approx. 114k for a check on toe & alignment. It ended up being a total repair of upper & lower u-joints & ball joints. Also had to replace driver's mirror-had short, wiring harness on passenger headlight-had short, transmission shifter seal leaked, new pinion gear & seal, & few other items also. It seems like a diesel that has just started breaking in was falling apart on me before it's time. Needless to say, about 4 months or so after I made the purchase, I had to fork out a !!heap!! of $$$$$ for repairs that I couldn't recover. Funny thing is, before I bought the truck, another gentleman told me these years of Dodge trucks he had heard they were having a lot of front end trouble. I'm shocked there hasn't been a recall. It sure would be nice to be reimbursed.

Wiper blade electronics will stop intermittently causing loss of visibility especially in severe weather conditions. This has happened numerous times despite use of appropriate DE-icer winter formula wiper fluid, replacement of the wiper motor, and multi-function switch assembly. The problem appears to be overload of the circuit when there is mild to moderate amount of ice on the windshield or when the steering wheel is readjusted downward causing the wiring harness to come loose. This has almost caused major accidents at least 2 and maybe even 3 times due to this issue. The problem occurred when driving straight at slow speed of about 20 mph due to severe weather and I was forced to stop when the wipers would stop working.

Trailer turn signals & brake (left) not working on factory 7 prong trailer adapter, truck indicator is ok, no signal to "left" in the wiring loom from the pdc/fmc to the factory 7 prong trailer adapter. (0 voltage), right turn, right brake, running, trailer brake & battery charge are fine. Dealer wants 1000$+ to fix/replace a defective pdc/fmc. Had not I done a walk around this could/would of caused an accident if I was making a "left" turn, merging or slowing down/stopping. . Bulbs are all good and independently checked with a 12v power source.

2012 Dodge Ram 3500 laramie. Consumer states problem with the brake controller the consumer stated a dealer helped him install a universal brake controller, but it did not work correctly. The consumer stated he was able to use it, with the hand control, but not the foot control. The brakes would become very hot from trying to stop the equipment trailer without the brake controller working properly. The consumer stated when the brakes overheated, it damaged other components. Also, the headlights would go out at random times while driving at night. There was an electrical burning smell emitting from the vehicle. The consumer also stated the vehicle needed a new wiring harness and new axles. Updated 08/14/12.

Wiring harness on both rear doors have broken and no long will power lock and indicate the door is ajar aswell as rear speakers are no longer functional.
Rear turn/hazards signals do not work, front turn signals are fine. All fuses, wiring to lights, bulbs are fine. Trailer plug is fine. This problem is causing many other motorists to not know my intentions when changing lanes or turning.
Left rear brake light doesn't work. I spent $200 at two different dealership trying to get the problem fixed and was told that it would cost me an additional $1500 to fix the problem. Something called the tipm was blown and wiring was damaged. I have inspected the wiring and it is not damaged.
The dash on this truck has cracked and fallen in, exposing the wiring inside the dash to the sun. The wiring insulation is not rated for exposure to direct sunlight (uv exposure) and is decomposing, putting the truck at risk of a fire initiating inside the cab at highway speeds, due to exposed wiring shorting to ground. Dodge refuses to remedy it, despite numerous attempts to resolve the issue with them. It is my understanding that this is a widespread issue, yet the nhtsb has not forced Chrysler/fiat into a recall, claiming that it isn't a safety issue. Do you need to see death before you act?.

If you use your 2006 Dodge ram truck for towing a trailer, there is a totally integrated power module (tpim) in the fuse box that is not protected by fuses. So, if you hook up your trailer to power your running lights and there happens to be a glitch, the tpim runs the risk of being fried. It happened to me with other 42k miles on my truck. The regular warranty does not cover it and many, many people with 2006 trucks have had this problem. The dealer had to replace mine. The part was $700 and labor was over $200. This set up is unacceptable in a vehicle that is built for towing. There is a software flash to up the amperage of the circuits but it doesn't completely fix the problem. Dodge needs to provide a recall to install more protection between the trailer wiring and the tpim.
I purchased my truck in may 2006, since I bought the truck it has had a vibration on start ie from stop when I start moving the truck has a vibration. I am now on the third rear drive shaft assembly in my truck at 65k miles. Also have had to replace a blown front hub that separated at 60k miles with no previous problems or warning. Have had over 3k worth of electrical work done at dealership including pcm, wiring harness, fca, injection pump and so forth and so on. Still have tons of electrical issues with truck. And now at 66k miles the fuel sending unit has gone out for the second time.
: the contact stated after the vehicle was parked for two days, the alarm suddenly sounded. By the time the door was opened, smoke had filled the cab. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who determined the wiring harness under the driver seat shorted out causing the wires to burn. The dealer replaced three wiring harnesses, the fuse box and the fuses.
On three different occasions the retaining nut for fifth-gear has failed. Dealer offered repair kit. . . Contained new main shaft for tranny. Cost was $3600. 00, Chrysler refuses to acknowledge defect in manufacturing of thread tapering. There is also no power brakes. Abs seems to not be working, relies on pressure from oil to brake. If pressed continuously, will go all the way to the floor. Wiring harness burned up after dealer work, frank shoupe of georgetown kentucky refused to repair their mistake. Said it was my fault, then refused to keep speaking with me. Stated replacement was $2015. 00, and would take a week;received one from junkyard in montana, took three days, and $300. 00.
Loss of power, check engine light comes on and all vehicle will do is idle(doesn't matter if you're doing 70mph on interstate or 35mph through town). Dangerous as you never know when this will happen, you could be pulling out into traffic, etc. Truck has been in the dealership service dept. 4 times for the same problem, they say it's fixed but this still continues.
