Electric seat fire, safety fuse failed to blow. Fuse block melted, seat motor shorted out, wiring harness burned into fire wall, across carpet, and under seat into foam padding. Truck was parked in driveway, and was not on. Problem occurred in the middle of the night, and had not been driven on that day. Upon investigation it was found that the original seat wiring harness had been improperly installed at the plant. Chrysler has inspected the truck and denied any liability, and has failed to offer any customer assistance. Yet on 2-20-2008 their parts manager admitted that they had rerouted the new wiring harness where it was supposed to go, and further electrical issues are still occurring. I have been without a truck for 6 weeks now, and my state farm insurance is having to cover an obvious manufacture flaw.

2000 Dodge Ram 3500 quad cab/electric seat wiring harness fire. Safety fuse failed, thus resulting in smoldering fire between seat foam and along carpet below the seat. Harness was installed over metal frame, and compromised when anyone would set on the set. Over time the protective coating wore off and the wiring grounded out on seat frame. We got up one morning only to find the truck filled with smoke, and were unable to locate the reason. I continued to use the truck occasionally, even though I had no dash lights, radio, dome lights, etc. . . Finally one day about 2-3 weeks later I happened to lean on the side of the seat and saw a burned place. Upon further investigation, I was able trace a fire trail. I drove the truck to the dealership where I bought it, and was told they couldn't help me. That I would have to fix it myself. I returned home with the truck and contacted an electrician to come look at the truck for me. He took one look at the damage and said that it was a faulty wiring job from the factory, and he was not able to help me. He suggested I contact the dealership. So I returned with the truck and contacted Chrysler customer service with the 800 number I was given. Both Chrysler and my state farm agent said the truck was unsafe and not to drive it until a representative from Chrysler inspected the truck. State farm's adjuster was not allowed to see the truck until after Chrysler finished their 'investigation'. I received a letter 1/18/2008 from Chrysler absolving them of any liability, or defect. I feel that something is very wrong here and would appreciate someone checking into this. Before some is seriously injured.
- the wiring of the headlight harness switch burned on the contact's 1998 Dodge Ram 3500. There was a recall for this failure, but this vehicle was not included due to the VIN. The Dodge dealer refused to acknowledge that the prior years vehicles and this truck were having the same failures and refused to honor the recall. He called Dodge, and they also refused to honor the recall. He had to repair the vehicle at his own cost.

Burning odor and light smoke from dashboard. All lights going on and off. Turned of headlights and burning odor and smoke stopped. Went to Dodge dealer to check for recall - manufacturer's recall 819 was for similar problem but only applied to model years 1994 - 1997. This truck was 1998 model. Purchased new headlight switch and replaced the burned switch along with some burnt wiring.
Night time driving when switching from hi beam to low beam, all headlights turned off and the hi beam had to be put back on using the column switch. This has occurred numerous times while driving at night. After several tries to get back to the low beams they finally turned on. Tiime periods before the low beams started to work varied from seconds to five or ten minutes. This has been a problem since I bought the 99" Dodge 3500 truck in sept 2000.

Consumer exited vehicle, and when he came back the interior of the vehicle was on fire which started in the left front dashboard area. (ohio traffic report#10-90-733).
Head light switch heats up after one hour of operation, the dash board above the light switch becomes hot to the touch. My concern is that if the lights are used longer than I have had to use them will the switch fail? the dealer has been helpful but this problem I believe is beyond the dealer and needs to be addressed by the manufacture. The dealer has replaced the switch once but the new one also heats up. I am also concerned that when I start towing a trailer with more lights on will the switch heat up even more and cause a fire.

Truck burned aproximately 45 minutes after shutting down in my driveway. Chrysler is sending me recall notices that are anywhere from 1 1/2 yrs old to 6 weeks before the fire, and they are coming in the mail now, almost 4 months after the fire. Chrysler will not admit responsibility for the fire, even while sending me recalls this late after the fire.
Truck burned aprox. 45 minutes after shutting down in my driveway.
Thin stream of white smoke emitting from dashboard. Headlight switch shorted out causing wires to burn behind dash. Very close to an electrical fire. Have heard other Dodge pickup owners having same difficulty (at least 3 that I know). Please investigate this problem!.
These are 2 trucks of the same kind we owned that caught on fire in the same way.
Wiring harness shorted out and melted wiring. Mjs.
