Underhood Wiring Problems of Dodge Ram 3500

Power distribution box underneath fuse box melts down and smokes excessively. Problem comes without warning while driving. In a matter of 30 seconds the dash lights go out and motor dies, driver loses power steering and power brakes and is extremely hard to control, keeping in mind this is a heavy duty truck made for commercial work, in my case I use it for hauling implement equipment and various steel products. The March 15th incident was the third time this has happened. During the last time the windshield washer pump turned on and pumped fluid on the windshield making it virtually impossible to see. Problem was not diagnosed first two times to the shop, only a replacement part was installed. Problem occurs about every 12,000 miles.

Dash started to brake on my 1997 Dodge 3500 truck leaving sharp edges, I have lost approx 50% of the top of dash exposing electrical wiring at present unable to use a/c as small pieces of plastic fly up occasionally I have a dash mat at the present time and still cannot use a/c something needs to be done concerning the safety of people no-one in florida is comfortable driving with no a/c and I don not think I should drive with a mat covering the dash for the next 5 or so years I have complained to Dodge and they just ignore the fact they use defective material.

While I was driving to work smoke started entering the cab so I began to pull off the highway. I began to notice bright lights from under the dash. Before I could get out flames began to enter into the cab. I only had time to jump out of the truck and watch it engulf into flames. I was able to get out without any harm to myself. The only thing left is the bed of the truck.

Fire in engine area,,,,,fuel pre-heater catches fire in the wiring because of bad seal on electrical connectors that allow rust to form in trucks in snow and salt country. . . Luckily I was getting home and stepping out of the truck when I spotted the fire,,,,if not the truck would have burn to the ground during the night,,,or I could have been asleep at a truck stop as I often do when I am on the road to the races. . . According to fellow members of the turbo diesel register (we supplied all the info and damaged parts to your organization last year concerning the throttle cable problem)),,,this fuel heater fire is a very common occurrence in these 94 to 97 trucks with the cummins diesel engine. . How does Chrysler get away with all these safety issues. This could very easily cause death if not addressed. . Thanks for your time. .

A fire started while at a stop sign. Vehicle towed to dealer, and informed that it was due to wire harness falling onto engine and catching on fire. Feel free to provide any further infromation.

Smoke was coming from inside of vehicle through vent panel area. He was able to pull over to shoulders. Fire department was called out.

Consumer was traveling 65mph on highway and was talking on cell phone. He dropped it, and when he lifted his body back up, lost control of vehicle. Went through a ditch , and hit a tree. Vehicle burst into flames. Consumer died.
