The car was vibrating incessantly. A loud bang, thud heard from the right front tire. Pull off the side of highway 220, southbound, about 10 miles north of hico, TX. The entire rubber around the steel belt was stripped off. The blow out caused damage to the running board and tire wheel area. I purchased these 4 tires on 7/21/11 so there are only 2 yrs old with about 20-25 miles on them. Before this blow out, I actually replaced two of the other tires replaced weeks before. One on of them, the car shook violently and the tire had a giant bulge. 3000 miles later, almost 2 weeks, the second tire started stripping off the rubber and tearing apart. Car shook then too. The third tire (story in first paragraph) completely tore apart before we could get to a safe spot to check it out. When each tire had a noticeable problem, I did the following: 1. First tire: immediately went to discount tire company for repair 2. Second tire: put on spare (it was July 4th) 3. Third tire: put on spare because tread had separated. One time is fluke, two times is a coincidence, three tires failing within 5 weeks is a definite pattern. Please review these tires.

I have a 2002 e350 Ford ext sd van that came with oem goodyear wrangler ht lre 245/75r/16 tires. The veh was obtained new in June 2002. Since new the tires sidewalls were cracked and dry, after driving on them a while the sidewalls had minor bulges, and more cracks. The tires were rotated/bal/and proper psi at all times and were never overloaded. The tires were replaced with michelin ltx/ms at 33k miles. These tires should have been replaced under a "safety improvement campaign" by goodyear at their expense (NHTSA campaign id nr 02x001000 dtd 28 Jan 2002). I was not notified and the "campaign" expired, leaving me to replace the tires at my expense. By not notifing me goodyear saved a bundle but it left me in danger of a possible blowout/tread seperation or even a crash. When I did find out about the replacement campaign I went to my local goodyear dealer and all they offered was to sell me the same tire at an inflated price compared to sam's club or wal-mart. Needless to say I will not be shopping for goodyear tires in the future.

We have experienced four catastrophic tire failures in less that one year. All were on 15-passenger Ford vans used to transport students. Each failure involved the rear tires. There was no warning. The tire exploded so violently that the van shook. The tread came completely off and destroyed the rear heating. We just noticed that a fifth tire had a large bulge indicating that a failure was about to happen. About 8 years ago one of our vans had a blowout and rolled killing one chearleader and seriously injuring several more. I do not know if that tire was a goodyear workhorse. What can your agency tell me about the safety of this brand of tire? are there any load e tires that you have not received complaints about?( dot number: ).
