2005 Ford e350. Consumer writes in regards to recall notice for vehicle tires. The consumer stated he received a recall notice about b. F. Goodrich commercial t/a tires he purchased some time ago. The consumer went to a tire service center, to have the tires checked. The manager informed the consumer, that one of the four tires were in the recall group. The manager stated in order for the recall to be honored, the consumer had to purchase at least two tires. In addition, he could get another brand of tires and receive credit for the value of the commercial t/a tires against the purchase. The consumer stated when he dropped the van off, he asked that the used tires be placed in the vehicle, so he could verify if the tires fell under the recall. That didn't happen. The consumer stated the repair center's idea of honoring the recall, was to charge him for one tire at the new commercial t/a price. The manager stated the consumer did not get the credit for the one tire, because he would have to buy the exact same tire.

Consumer tread on left rear tire separated. The vehicle was towing a travel trailer at the time of the tread separation. The trailer/van fishtailed violently and went down an embankment. The trailer ended up rolling over and caused the van to also roll onto it's side. This was the second goodyear wrangler tire on the vehicle to separate. The first tread separation occurred sept 2004.
While driving 50 mph, the rear right outer tire tread separated, but didn't' go flat. The consumer heard a flapping noise from the back of the vehicle and pulled over to inspect the noise. The left rear inner tire tread separated 9 days later while driving on the highway 40 mph. These were load range e tires. Both tires were replaced. The second tire caused slight damage to the wheel well and the first tire simply marred the inner wheel well. Both tread separations begun on the inside of the rim which was also at the same point on the tire.

Goodyear tire recall. I own a 15 passenger Ford van, approx one year ago I received a letter from goodyear, to take my van to a goodyear dealer and have the tires inspected for some replacement campaign. It was determined that my tires were to be replaced at no charge. Recently four of the five replacement tires have separated and had to be replaced. The fifth has not separated because it is the new spare. One of the center treads is letting go and are rising higher then the rest of the treads causing the tire to bounce drastically. These tires are the goodyear conquest. I have been getting a lot of static from the superior goodyear dealers, so after calling goodyear, I was advised to go to discount tires for an adjustment. One of my tires separated a week ago, I replaced it with the spare, and on 9-19-03 the fourth tire let go. I was advised by discount tire why I wanted the same kind of tire for replacement, I advised them that goodyear said that was the only tire I could replace them with. Discount advised differently, and put two michelin tires on for me at little cost. I guess all I am trying to do is to advise that the tires goodyear is using to replace the original recalled tires are worse then the originals. I had 50,000 plus miles on the original tires with no problems, and I am barely getting 20,000 of the replaced tires. I am not asking for anything only to advise of the situation. I am a retired state trooper from arizona so I know a little bit about tires, and I feel some one of concern should know about my experience.
