2 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2024

Check engine light came on so I made an appointment and drove the vehicle to peoria Ford. They said code p0302 in pcm, found TSB for concern 22-2229, pressure test cooling system found coolant leaking from cylinder 2, recommend address TSB and retest this could cause a misfire, overheat, or vehicle to catch fire.

3 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2022

My 2017 Ford Edge with a 4 cylinder 2. 0 ecoboost engine and 81,000 miles needs a new engine, as per my local Ford dealer. I recently had coolant leak into the engine through the cylinders. All preventative maintenance work, including oil changes, have been done when required. Daytona beach automall dealership tells me the vehicle is out of warranty and totally my responsibility to replace the engine at a cost of approximately $5500. This problem exists with Ford ecoboost engines all over the country and Ford has been aware of it for years. No recalls have been made since many of these problems occur after the warranty has expired and then it's the customers responsibility. Ford motor company is not taking responsibility for their product when they have known for some time that they have problems with the ecoboost engine.

4 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2021

Coolant leaking into engine.

5 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2021

At roughly 77,500 miles our engine starting misfiring both while stationary and in motion. The check engine light came on. We pulled code p0305, indicating cylinder #2 misfire. We replaced the coils and spark plugs and the engine continued to misfire. We then began hearing fluid moving behind our dash board and noticed that the coolant tank was low but no visible coolant leak was found. We took the car to a local Ford dealer's service center (woodhouse Ford - omaha, ne) for inspection and diagnosis. They confirmed that engine coolant was leaking into cylinder #2, causing the misfire. It was also leaking into the heating element, causing a putrid smell in the cab of the vehicle and the rushing fluid sound behind the dashboard. They confirmed this is related to Ford TSB 19-2346. Ford stated that the repair requires a $6300 replacement engine and they are not liable for the damage to the engine as a result of their defect. Per the TSB, this engine defect may result in engine fires but fortunately it did not get to this point for us.

The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated she was unable to start-up the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated later that day she started the vehicle using the spare key. The contact stated that white smoke exited the rear of the vehicle. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact drove to her destination. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the head gasket allowed coolant to leak into cylinder number 2. Vic bailey Ford (501 e daniel morgan Ave, spartanburg, SC 29302, (864) 585-3600) was contacted and made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

7 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2021

Around 70,000 miles my check engine light came on. My car has also been shaking upon acceleration, which has been up to this point, unable to be diagnosed. I took my car into a Ford dealership, and they said that coolant was leaking into cylinder 4, and that the whole engine will need to be replaced. They also said this is a known issue with this vehicle.

8 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2021

Car engine idles rough and white smoke comes out of exhaust. The check engine light came on while I was driving 20 miles per hour on my town road and I took it to the mechanic he said the coolant is leaking into cylinder head number 2. We had to fill the coolant reservoir because it was very low.

9 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2021

The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 30 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact continued driving with no other issues. The following day when the vehicle was started, the vehicle shuddered. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the spark plugs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the same local dealer to be diagnosed a second time. The contact was informed that coolant leaked into the engine block and the engine needed to be repaired or replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 71,000.

10 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2021

On my 2017 Ford Edge the epb motor and abs module went out at 62,000 miles resulting in brakes dragging and very difficult to release the parking brake with the danger of locking up while driving. Also the engine is a 4 cylinder 2 liter ecoboost and has been leaking coolant into cylinder number 2 causing coolant level to drop and the engine misfiring eventually leading to a engine warning light. Ford has issued a service bulletin to look out for these problems. The only remedy is engine replacement at a cost of at least $8,000. 00. Ford has been aware of these problems for quite a long time but has not issued a recall and will not help with the cost of repair. I believe my engine had this problem before the powertrain warranty expired at 60,000 miles. I am not a mechanic and did not notice the problem until my check engine light came on at approx. 61,500 miles. I think Ford should bear the responsibility of engine replacement as the engine has failed before 62,000 miles. A car engine should last much longer. After doing research I have seen complaints of dozens of similar cases of the ecoboost engines having the same problem and beleive it has a design flaw.

11 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2021

Check engine light came in. Took car for repair was told it was the spark plugs. Week later check engine came back in. Was told it was misfire codes then cleared. Week later (3rdweek in row) heard swooshing sound like liquid running towards the front of car where the heat vents located and check engine back on with car gas mileage decreasing from 147 miles to 25 miles during a 5 min ride to dealership. Told low coolant and coolant leaking into engine thus destroying engine. Entire engine needs to be replaced. Car has 42000 miles on it.

12 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2021

My 2017 Ford Edge with a 4 cylinder 2. 0 ecoboost engine and 81,000 miles needs a new engine, as per my local Ford dealer. I recently had coolant leak into the engine through the cylinders. All preventative maintenance work, including oil changes, have been done when required. Dealership tells me the vehicle is out of warranty and totally my responsibility to replace the engine at a cost of approximately $8,500.

13 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2021

Diagnostic done by Ford identified that cylinders 1 and 3 misfire. The engine assembly has an internal coolant leak at cylinders 1 and 3. There is coolant intrusion at cylinders 1 and 3. A class action lawsuit has been filed against Ford regarding this ecoboost engine. My car stalls and cannot exceed 60 mph. The resolution is the replacement of the long block. Ford hasn't issued a recall for the 2. 0 l engine but has issued several technical service bulletins.

14 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2021

Check engine light came on. Took car to dealership for diagnostic. Coolant leaking into #2 cylinder -- 88,000 miles on the car and it requires a total engine replacement. Dealership estimate of $9,000 to fix.

15 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2020

Car has 69,000 miles. Check engine light has come on. Was told a new engine is needed because coolant is leaking into the cylinders. Thousands of the same complaint and now we are told we need a new engine on a car that is barely three years old and of course out of warranty. Why has not one thing been done to resolve this with Ford. Had we known we were buying a lemon we would have never purchased this vechicle. Ford knows this is a problem and they have done nothing to rectify the defect in the product they put out on the market. We have no recourse here and what Ford has done borders on illegal to have a known probem with no recourse for the consumers.

16 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2020

Car engine light turned on with only 48k miles and Ford stated my car needs a new engine due to being improperly made and coolant leaking into engine.

17 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2020

Frst noticed in November the car would not generate heat while at idle. This prevented defrosting of windshield. Noticed heat would return at higher revs, but this also decreased. Noticed fluid level was low added antifreeze and heat returned somewhat but not at idle. Car has 36,200 miles, just off warranty. This is an obvious safety hazard since drivingin winter requires a functioning defroster. Local mechanic noted that check engine light for misfire of cylinder #1 indicated a head gasket leak which was where my coolant was disappearing. There are no signs of outward leaks, or a oder of coolant in the cabin from the heat core. It is now January, and I cannot drive the car due to lack of heat and risk of damage to the engine. Emailed my dealer, but as of yet no response.

18 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2020

I was turning left from a stop sign across two lanes of oncoming traffic. When I was clear I pressed the gas and the vehicle began to move. Prior to clearing the two lanes of oncoming traffic, the vehicle stalled and would not restart. This left me sitting in the middle of oncoming traffic and unable to get out of the way. I was not hit thankfully but this could be a serious issue in another situation. This has happened multiple times with the car stalling but this is the first time where the situation left me in danger. This stalling is due to a misfiring cylinder because engine coolant is leaking into the engine. Ford has stated that the long block needs to be replaced and that it would cost approximately $9,000. As the problem occurred right after the 60,000 mile warranty ended, they refuse to be held accountable despite the issue being a manufacturing defect. Sooner or later someone will be hurt or possibly killed because of this issue. Is it going to take someone dying to get a justifiable recall issued for this problem?.

19 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2020

Vehicle began to idle roughly upon cold start, after a few minutes it would idle normally. After a few weeks the check engine light came on. Took to dealer for diagnosis and repair. Was told that the engine needed to be replaced. They said it will take several weeks before they receive a new engine. We were not offered a loaner vehicle, we had to ask for a loaner vehicle. Our vehicle has approximately 28,000 miles. After doing some research online, apparently this has been a known problem with this model vehicle. The problem appears to be a coolant leak into the engine cylinder. There are many complaints from owners of this same problem. Most people have been made to pay thousands of dollars for this engine replacement. We have an extended warranty and, so far, have not been told we will be financially responsible for our repair. Ford has not recognized this as an issue that should be categorized as a recall, thus leaving people with a large repair bill. The engine design obviously have a defect that should necessitate a formal recall.

20 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 10/26/2020

After having the vehicle for just over a year, with 61k miles, my check engine light came on and I am being told that I need a new engine. I was told that the engine coolant is leaking into the engine and that the only remedy is to replace the engine. This is not a wear and tear issue but after searching online have found that it is a wide spread issue people are having with this model. Ford has said that there is nothing they can do about it until a recall is issued with my vehicle being 1k miles out of warranty. Others have stated that Ford service has admitted they have had a lot of complaint and repairs for the same issue. I am unable to pay for a new engine and my families safety is at risk. . 21 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2020

When turning the car on, the check engine light came on. The car idled rough and failed to accelerate properly. Took the car to a mechanic and the code was for a misfire in cylinder 2. Mechanic changed spark plugs and cleared the code. A couple of weeks later the same thing occurred. I took the car back to the mechanic and was told the coolant was leaking into the engine and that the long block needed to be replaced. This occurred at approximately 64,000 miles. With this problem, the vehicle is unsafe to drive. The acceleration doesn't feel right and the car shakes. This problem is clearly a defect in the design of the vehicle. Ford needs to look at the situation and do the right thing. The Ford Edge is not a safe vehicle with this problem and it is clearly a defect in design.

22 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2020

Engine needs replaced due to leaking coolant. Apparently this is a known problem by Ford. Lots of complaints online and service department has a know problem.

23 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2020

Coolant leakage in cylinder #2. . Was told need new long block. . . . New engine. . . Not covered under extended warrenty due to the fact failing part is not a lubercated part. . . . Isn't an engine lubercated?.

24 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2020

Coolant leaking into #1 cylinder causing rough idle at start-up and misfire dtc. TSB issued by manufacturer to replace long block, but no recall or compensation for repair.

25 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2020

2017 Ford Edge with 65,000 miles. Engine light came on for a day and then went off for about a week until it appeared again. Car started rough for about 2 days( like a cold morning) and then ran fine. Battery failed, during replacement turned car on to make sure battery working fine and white smoke poured out of exhaust pipe . Had car towed to my auto repair shop. Cylinder #2 failure. Coolant leaked into engine. Engine has to be replaced. It's a 2l engine. Ford has no recall for this issue but has had a multitude of problems with this. The Edge was my first Ford car, terribly disappointing and now I am expected to pay out of pocket for the new engine which will run about $8k-$9k. Ford needs to step up soon.

26 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2020

I was running errands driving around town one day when I noticed my auto engine start/stop feature in my 2017 Ford Edge stopped working. I took my car to the dealership & they said it was a misfire in the engine. A week later, a yellow light with the picture of an engine appears on my dash. I took my car for a diagnostic. It came back with the code p0304. I take my car to Ford and they suggest replacing the long block. They quote me $6,800. I noticed that my heat in my car stopped working on the way home. I check the coolant level and it was really low. I put coolant in my reservoir and it works again. But, I have to keep filling the reservoir with coolant every other day, which gets expensive. I tell the service guys, and they tell me that the coolant is leaking into my engine due to a manufacturer defect, which causes the heating to stop working, and low coolant levels. I contact Ford motors company, and they tell me my car is out of warranty. I purchased my car used on February 27,2020. It had 57 thousand miles on it the day of purchase. The warranty was up at 60 thousand miles. Not fair to me at all as I was told I had a warranty from the mileage I got the car at and 60 thousand miles beyond. They said it was nothing they can do and also because I did not leave my car at the Ford dealership they would not work on my case. My case manager from Ford motors never ever contacted me prior to closing my case once she discovered I never left my car at Ford. I tried reaching out to her several times in attempts of getting my car to Ford and seeing where we can go from there, and she never answered or returned any of my calls or emails. Ford needs to be held accountable and issue a recall as they were made aware of the expensive issue by many other customers from reviews and forums I have read online and heard from other Edge owners.

27 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2020

Cel came on at 62k miles. Cylinder 3 mis-fire fault. Local Ford said coolant is leaking into cylinder. Told today engine has to be replaced.

28 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2020

My vehicle is a 2017 with 87,000 miles. Check engine light came on, cylinder #2 misfiring, Ford said I am experiencing a similar issue they are having with these motors where there are hairline cracks in the long block leaking coolant into the combustion chamber and that I will need a new engine. Ford is saying it is only a bulletin and not a recall so I am having to pay for a new motor out of pocket for a design flaw in the engine. I am a recent college grad and was not expecting to pay $9,000 for a new motor on a relatively new vehicle on top of my student debt. I expected a few more reliable years with this vehicle and cannot risk having the engine go out while driving so I will have to try and get another vehicle since their is no recall for this known issue that they've redesigned the newer motors to account for this.

29 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2020

Check engine light came on at 41200 miles. Computer says p0303 misfire. Car idles in park. Drives hard. Known problem with the 2017 Ford Edge apparently many complaints online. Luckily my car is still under warranty, and they've agreed to cover the full cost of an engine replacement. Others not wo lucky. Ford knows this is an issue and charging 10 grand to repair when its really at no fault of the consumers own. Im scared to even get my car back if this will happen again and again after my warranty is up. Ford really should correct this know issue on all 2017 Edges where coolant is leaking into the pistons causing misfire before someone gets hurt.

30 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2020

The check engine light came on while I was out of town. I took it to the closet Ford. They let me know that the second cylinder is misfiring. This is happening because coolant has leaked into. They stated that I need a new engine and replace the long block.

31 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2020

Engine light came on. Took it to the dealership for diagnostic. Coolant leaking into cylinder 2. Engine had to be replaced. $9,300 quote to put a new engine in, and vehicle is out of warranty. The service advisor at the dealership and the mechanic both admitted it is a known defect and said there is a TSB bulletin on the issue. Completely unacceptable failure of the Ford product.

32 Coolant Leaking problem

34 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2020

Engine light came on. Code was p0302, initial input from Ford dealer, change spark plugs, 98xxx miles, probably due for a tune-up. Maintenance performed, code reset.
