1 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2026

Cylinder coolant intrusion I took my vehicle to warren/ sheldon auto repair shop in canton, mi they did a diagnostic test on it, they told me they found coolant in the engine, and I would need a brand new engine. If I would of not taken the vehicle to the auto shop, the vehicle may have caught on fire vector the condition it is in, because it would of overheated because of no coolant or was very low -due to a leak. A check engine light came on June 5th, 2026, and two days later I took it to the shop.

2 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2026

I have the 2. 0 ecoboost. I had my check engine light come on xxx. I went to autozone in [xxx] to have the code checked. They told me it was a cylinder 1 misfire. The code read as an ignition coil. I thought it was no big deal because of the mileage and thought it was time for coils and plugs. Friday June 12, 2026, I started my car to go to work and I turned on my defroster because it was foggy out. 15 minutes into my drive to work, I noticed I had no heat. I got to work, checked under my hood and noticed my coolant reservoir was empty. I got the approved coolant for my car and put a whole gallon into the reservoir and it filled it up between the min/max line. Xxx, at the end of the day, I checked again and my reservoir was empty. It has been idling rough when starting either cold or warmed up. This coolant intrusion problem is a major safety issue because it can cause catastrophic engine failure and even engine fires. I bought it used and couldn’t afford the warranty but being a design defect, Ford should be held responsible for the remedy, not just issue an optional TSB and leave unsuspecting drivers buying a used car from a certified dealer with the risk of paying for another new car or engine replacement. 3 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2026

It was necessary to stop at the end of an on-ramp to an expressway. As I proceeded to enter the expressway, my 2017 Ford Edge started vibrating and as I accelerated to go onto the expressway, the car stalled. I was able to restart the car and it vibrated and stalled again as I accelerated to pull over on the shoulder of the road, which there was minimal area to pull off due to the lack of shoulder. Then, the check engine light came on. I could have been in a major accident if I was not able to get out of the flow of traffic quick enough. My mechanic told me that I have a head gasket cylinder leak which is a well known problem with the 2. 0l Ford ecoboost engine which causes the engine to stall. He said that he has seen this problem before and Ford recognizes the problem but is unwilling to do anything about it. He also said that probably a certain amount of people have to die or get injured before Ford will do anything about it. He also said Ford changed the cooling design after 2019 due to the number of problems they have had with the 2. 0l engine head gasket. The first warning light that came on was after the engine stalled the second time.

4 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2026

Head gasket issue allowing coolant intrusion into cylinder walls. Block and head defect on Ford ecoboost engine. I’m finding online this is a very common problem that Ford is ignoring. Potential engine failure while operating. Yes. Pressurized coolant system and used a boroscope to see into the cylinder. No yes, code p0302 on a diagnostic machine. First appeared April 2026.

5 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2026

Recently I have noticed, in my 2017 Ford Edge sel, that my coolant level in reservoir has been low a few times with no puddling anywhere under car. I have read that this is a known issue with this vehicle that has the 2. 0l ecoboost engine. What can be done about this? from what I have been reading, this a design issue that Ford knows about but has not offered a fix. The cost to replace the engine is more than vehicle is worth. Is there some financial assistance or full coverage to cover the cost for my vehicle to be fixed? this has been an ongoing issue starting with, shifting hard at times, coolant loss with no explanation, and rough idling after cold start.

6 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2026

Engine has coolant leaking into the third cylinder. This explains why my vehichle runs rough, coolant level drops with no sign of leaks underneath the vehicle and white exhaust smoke. Apparently its a known issue with the 2. 0 l ecoboost engines and is addressed in a technical service bulletin (TSB). To correct coolant intrusion into the cylinders you have to replace the long block engine assembly. The issue started in texas about a year ago and a code appeared for misfire in cylinder 3. Spark plugs and ignition coil was replaced only for the code to appear again the next week. Twice a month we would have to top off the coolant. It wasnt until about 2 weeks ago when smoke was coming out of the exhaust and was advised it is not safe to drive.

7 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2026

Coolant intrusion into the cylinders.

8 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2026

My 2017 Ford Edge se has been diagnosed with having a coolant intrusion into cylinders. I was not made aware of this defect neither by the dealer I purchased or by Ford. It seems like I might have to replace the engine which an inconvience given that I have own the car for less than 3 weeks.

9 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2026

Our 2017 Ford Edge titanium had its engine check light go on at 61,000 miles on April 6, 2026. So we brought it into our local Ford dealership (where we purchased it new) the next day on April 7. We were told that diagnostics showed there was a coolant intrusion and we would need to basically rebuild the engine (long block) for $9,900! this is very frustrating since we bought an extended warranty at the time of purchase and had our car regularly brought in for maintenance. We did everything expected as an owner. No surprise, our extended warranty was good up 60,000. Reading up about the problem with coolant intrusion, it seems a class action was taken with Ford but only on their 4 cylinder engines. However, I've found many other Edge owners (with the same 6 cylinder engine we have) who were dealing with coolant intrusion and costly repairs as well. Whether it's a 4 cylinder or a 6 cylinder it's apparent Ford had some manufacturing issues on their engine blocks that cause coolant to leak into the cylinders and I feel they should be held responsible for the 6 cylinders as well.

10 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2026

Our 2017 Ford Edge titanium had its engine check light go on at 60,788 miles on April 6, 2026. So we brought it into our local Ford dealership (where we purchased it new) the next day on April 7. We were told that diagnostics showed there was a coolant intrusion in one of the cylinders (2. 0l eco-boost engine) and we would need to basically rebuild the engine (long block) for $9,900! this is very frustrating since we bought an extended warranty at the time of purchase and had our car regularly brought in for maintenance. We did everything expected as an owner. No surprise, our extended warranty was good up 60,000. Our Edge was at the dealership for 5 weeks. I don't think they cared at all that we had to payout $9,000. I've read so many posts on various sites with people experiencing the same problem and cost out of pocket to get their Fords repaired. It's apparent Ford had some major manufacturing issues on their engine blocks that cause coolant to leak into the cylinders. So, why is there no recall or class action?.

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2026

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? yes, the engine (long block) is leaking coolant into the cylinder. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? this is a known problem with these vehicles. Some vehicles have locked up while driving or caught on fire. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes. Thousands of people have reported this problem with this 2. 0 ecoboost engine (especially years 2015-2018) and Ford has done nothing about it. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? the Ford dealership. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? the check engine light has been coming on and off for the past year. We were told not to worry about it. It was nothing emergent unless it came on and started blinking.

12 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2026

The check engine light repeatedly comes on in my vehicle and despite expensive repairs and multiple trips to the mechanic, the problem is recurring. It has now been determined that there is a coolant intrusion into the engine block and the only resolution is to replace the engine block in its entirety which will cost thousands of dollars. This is a known issue with the Ford ecoboost engine and a known failure.

13 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/26/2026

The ecoboost engine showed a low coolant level and white exhaust smoke. Ford has diagnosed the vehicle and the Ford Edge needs a new engine due to Ford’s flawed engine design. Ford is aware of the issue and a recall is not issued and they are not taking any financial responsibility. Refer to Ford technical service bulletin 19-2346.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2026

Beginning in January 2026, the vehicle exhibited progressive symptoms including repeated lurching and difficulty shifting gears. These symptoms are consistent with the open and incomplete recall for the transmission shifter cable bushing and the powertrain control module reprogram. On or around March 25–26, 2026, while operating the vehicle at approximately 35 mph on a surface street, the following failure sequence occurred: the vehicle began producing a repetitive thudding sensation (thud-thud-thud), followed by violent shaking of the steering wheel, followed by a complete loss of steering response. The vehicle drifted uncontrollably into an adjacent lane of active traffic under clear, dry weather conditions — a loss of control consistent with brake hose failure causing uneven braking force, compounded by the known transmission and pcm defects. Collision with another vehicle was narrowly avoided. The vehicle currently has five open, incomplete recalls: (1) front brake flexible hose leak, (2) rear brake flexible hose leak, (3) transmission shifter cable bushing, (4) rear-view camera inspection, (5) powertrain control module reprogram. None have been completed. The described failure is consistent with and likely caused by these unresolved manufacturing defects. But the owner has attempted multiple times to bring the vehicle to Ford but was turned away due to dealer capacity. No loaner vehicle was offered.

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2026

Engine is mis firing on cold engine startup and is loosing coolant. Cause may be faulty engine block.

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2026

Service engineer light came in and it was diagnosed as coolant intrusion. Engine failure. No accident occurred.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2026

I have a 2017 Ford Edge with the famous coolant intrusion problem that has now caused me to need a new engine and Ford won't do anything to help me. This has been a known problem due to a defect in the way the engine was made that allows coolant to enter the cylinders. Now I am out $5,000 due to needing a new engine. Ford issued a TSB for this problem but no actual recall, leaving thousands of people with costly repair bills.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2026

I am reporting a dangerous engine defect involving coolant intrusion into the combustion cylinders, specifically cylinder 4. This is a known design flaw in the 2. 0l ecoboost engine block (referenced in Ford TSB 19-2346). My vehicle is experiencing a persistent misfire, loss of coolant without external leaks, white smoke from the exhaust, and a "waterfall" air-pocket sound in the dashboard. This defect poses a significant safety risk. The engine is prone to sudden stalling or entering "limp mode" while driving at highway speeds, creating a high risk of rear-end collisions. Furthermore, the internal coolant leak causes severe overheating and allows flammable fluids to enter the exhaust system, which presents a fire hazard. If the engine "hydrolocks" while in motion, it could lead to an immediate loss of power and power steering, making the vehicle impossible to control safely in traffic. Ford is aware of this defect through internal technical service bulletins but has not issued a safety recall. They are currently requiring owners to pay $8,000–$10,000 for a full engine replacement once the powertrain warranty expires, despite this being a fundamental manufacturing defect.

19 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2026

On appx 2/1/2026, when accelerating over 50mph to enter the highway, the car started to violently shake would not accelerate any higher. This caused my daughter to be a danger on the highway at such a low speed and she nearly was hit by a semi. The check engine line turned on when this occurred and then went off when the vehicle was turned off so we continued to drive it and it happened 2 more times so we brought it to be looked at. I took it to a local shop that had just changed the oil, thinking it was related, however they ran the diagnostic code(s) and found that there is an open service bulletin at Ford for this issue. The diagnostic codes were p0301 and p0316 for misfires in the cylinders. They are aware of the issue which is causing coolant to leak into the cylinder and the only remedy is to basically replace the engine which I was quoted over $10,000 to complete. For such a new vehicle with so little miles, it doesn't make any sense that Ford does not have a recall open for this for any impacted vehicles.

20 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2026

Coolant intrusion into cylinder 2 causing misfire in cylinder 2 and subsequent p0302 error code. Coolant level drops in reservoir and engine begins to overheat unless turned off.

21 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2026

TSB 19-2349 oil and coolant leaked into engine cylinders causing the car to blow white smoke, runs rough and now the long block engine needs to be replaced.

22 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2026

While I was coming home from work driving up the mountain on highway 35 in fort payne alabama my vehicle stopped moving and I rolled to a stop on the side of the road. I had to call a rollback and my dad so he could come pick me up. He heard the noise and knew it was the flex plate torque converter issue that Ford is having.

23 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2026

Contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the vehicle would hesitate and stutter with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact also stated that while driving at various speeds and stops the heat would independently turned off and on in the vehicle. Contact also stated the coolant low warning light illuminated in the vehicle and coolant was added to vehicle and vehicle would work as intended for several months and then the failure would reoccur. The contact stated that the vehicle was recently taken into and independent mechanic for and oil change where she was informed of a coolant leak into the engine. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer who confirmed by diagnostic code and inspection that there was a coolant leak and the engine needed to be replaced. Manufacturer was not notified of the failure. Proximate mileage failure stated by contact was 50,000 miles.

24 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2026

There was a leak in the engine coolant system causing the engine to warp and fail. The engine had thousands of dollars worth of work this year due to other issues. The backup camera stopped working as well and the recall can't be fixed because there aren't parts for it. This engine failure is costing me $9,000 because it can't be repaired and I now have to pay off the vehicle because it isn't worth the cost to put in a new engine. This is a known issue with this model of Ford. Why hasn't it been recalled?!?.

25 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2025

My car is only 44,000 miles yet I got 2 engine light codes on. Presence of coolant in the engine cylinders, white exhaust smoke and a runs rough especially during the first start of the day. Engine diagnostic at Ford dealership shows that it is a coolant intrusion. Dealership states that it requires an entire engine replacement despite my car being in good condition otherwise with proper maintenance.

26 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2025

I bought this car used in 2020 with 76,000 miles on it. Three months into ownership my engine blew this was caused from coolant leaking into the cylinder. I paid $8000 to replace the engine because it was out of factory warranty fast-forward to 2025 and I am replacing the engine again because the engine that was put in it was it used one with the same problems. This is an known issue with this vehicle. It’s been widely they reported. In fact, there is a class action lawsuit. How is it fair to a consumer to spend all of this money and not have a vehicle that is free from defects that the manufacturer is aware of. I’m making payments on this car and still having to sink money into it. When are you going to help us? there are thousands of us out here.

27 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2025

Check engine light started coming on for a cylinder 3 misfire at around 105,000 miles. Brought to mechanic to diagnose. Replaced ignition coils and spark plugs. The check engine light came on again with the same issue. Coolant also was running low. Brought to Ford dealership who scoped the number 3 cylinder. Dealership confirmed that coolant was intruding into the engine and that a new engine block would be required as a remedy. This is a well known defect on Ford ecoboost engines that they have issued recalls for in the past, albeit for smaller liter engines and not the 2. 0.

28 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2025

The coolant is leaking into the motor causing an overheating issue that cuts power to the engine while driving. This is a large problem that may go unreported but Ford did change the design years down the road to help fix the issue but will not take responsibility.

29 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

See attached document for complaint.

30 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2025

Subject: safety complaint: engine failure and stall risk – 2017 Ford Edge 2. 0l ecoboost description of incident: I am reporting a dangerous engine defect in my 2017 Ford Edge (VIN: [xxx] ) involving the 2. 0l ecoboost engine. My vehicle has experienced total engine failure due to coolant leaking into the engine cylinders. This is a known design flaw documented by Ford in TSB 19-2346, yet no safety recall has been issued for the Edge model. This defect poses a significant safety risk as it can lead to sudden engine stalling, loss of power while driving, and potential engine fires due to overheating. Impact and financial burden: my vehicle is currently inoperable and at a repair shop. I am facing a repair estimate of $7,000 – $10,000. Furthermore, my third-party warranty provider (carshield) has denied the claim, specifically citing that because Ford acknowledged this as a known manufacturing defect via a TSB, they are not liable for the repair. Owners are being left stranded with dangerous, failing vehicles because Ford has not transitioned this TSB into a formal recall or customer satisfaction program (csp), despite the clear risk of engine failure at highway speeds. Vehicle information for your records: •year/make/model: 2017 Ford Edge •engine: 2. 0l ecoboost •VIN: [xxx] •failure mileage: approximately 142000 •incident date: 10/27/2025 note: car shield contract # xxx claim # xxx information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

31 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2025

Coolant leaked into the engine cylinders. This issue leads to severe overheating, head gasket failures, and total engine failure. I've been quoted almost $8,000 to replace engine due to Ford's design flaw.

32 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2025

The vehicle has low mileage, but the 3rd cylinder wall has a crack that is causing coolant to be leaked into the engine and therefore, the long block/engine needs to be immediately replaced. This is a major safety hazard which can cause the engine to stop at any time, even while driving on the highway, which a major safety issue and hazard. The certified mechanics say that the long block part was manufactured too thin and is causing major safety and mechanical problems and shared Ford needs to recall and replace the long block as this is a common problem and major safety issue with this vehicle as research has shown.

33 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2025

Vehicle: 2017 Ford Edge issue: sudden loss of power / transmission failure safety concern: loss of acceleration at highway speeds complaint description: I am submitting this complaint due to a serious safety issue with my 2017 Ford Edge. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle began hesitating when I pressed the accelerator. While traveling on the highway, the car accelerated to approximately 60 mph and then suddenly dropped to around 40 mph, despite continued pressure on the accelerator pedal. The check engine light illuminated. I immediately took the vehicle to the dealership for inspection and was informed that the transmission had failed and required replacement. This is a major safety concern. The unexpected and uncontrollable reduction in speed while traveling on a highway created a dangerous driving situation for me and other motorists. A sudden loss of power like this can easily lead to rear-end collisions and serious accidents, especially in fast-moving traffic where other drivers have no warning and do not anticipate a vehicle rapidly decelerating. I believe this issue poses a significant safety risk and request that NHTSA investigate this problem to help prevent potential crashes and protect drivers and the public.

34 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2025

Bought my car used with 100000 miles. Was maintained of every 3000 miles by a Ford dealer before I bought it. When I got it and as I was driving home there was a check engine light that popped up for a misfire in cylinder 3 (p0303) and no coolant in the reservoir. I topped up the coolant and since then ive had to refill my coolant ever 3 or 4 days. Its going back to the dealership I got it from on hoping the warranty they provided covers the work.

35 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2025

The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact received notifications of NHTSA campaign numbers: 25v544000 (service brakes, hydraulic) and 25v572000 (back over prevention). The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle stalled. After several attempts the vehicle restarted. There were no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.
