I bought this car used in 2020 with 76,000 miles on it. Three months into ownership my engine blew this was caused from coolant leaking into the cylinder. I paid $8000 to replace the engine because it was out of factory warranty fast-forward to 2025 and I am replacing the engine again because the engine that was put in it was it used one with the same problems. How is it fair to a consumer to spend all of this money and not have a vehicle that is free from defects that the manufacturer is aware of. Check engine light started coming on for a cylinder 3 misfire at around 105,000 miles. Brought to mechanic to diagnose. Replaced ignition coils and spark plugs. The check engine light came on again with the same issue. Coolant also was running low. Brought to Ford dealership who scoped the number 3 cylinder. Dealership confirmed that coolant was intruding into the engine and that a new engine block would be required as a remedy. This is a well known defect on Ford ecoboost engines that they have issued recalls for in the past, albeit for smaller liter engines and not the 2. 0.
Component failure: engine - I am reporting a dangerous engine defect in my 2017 Ford Edge which involves the 2. 0l ecoboost i4 f dohc 14v engine. My vehicle has experienced total engine failure due to coolant leaking into the engine cylinders. This is a known design flaw documented by Ford in TSB 19-2346, yet no safety recall has been issued for the Edge model. This defect poses a significant safety risk as it can lead to sudden engine stalling, loss of power while driving, and potential engine fires due to overheating. My vehicle started having issues with coolant levels in December 2025, which led to believe that it was the water pump. This was the first indicator that coolant was leaking somewhere. The repair shop replaced the water pump along with the thermostat and heater hose. Later that week the vehicle started stalling and left my daughter stranded. It was able to be jumped and driven to a shop where the battery was replaced thinking that maybe that was the issue. Within 24 hours the engine started backfiring which left my daughter stranded again. The vehicle was towed to the shop and water pump was replaced again under the warranty but the vehicle just kept backfiring and wouldn't start. It was towed to a Ford dealership where they said that it may need a new engine. Ford knew of the coolant engine intrusion issue and pretended that they didn't know what caused the engine failure and the only solution is an $8k new engine. This has caused an impact and financial burden. My vehicle is currently inoperable. I am facing a repair estimate of $8,000 – $10,000 in addition to all the prior repairs leading up to this catastrophic engine failure . My daughter was left stranded twice and other owners are being left stranded as well with dangerous, failing vehicles because Ford has not transitioned this TSB into a formal recall or customer satisfaction program (csp), despite the clear risk of engine failure at highway speeds. The coolant is leaking into the motor causing an overheating issue that cuts power to the engine while driving. This is a large problem that may go unreported but Ford did change the design years down the road to help fix the issue but will not take responsibility.

The vehicle has low mileage, but the 3rd cylinder wall has a crack that is causing coolant to be leaked into the engine and therefore, the long block/engine needs to be immediately replaced. This is a major safety hazard which can cause the engine to stop at any time, even while driving on the highway, which a major safety issue and hazard. The certified mechanics say that the long block part was manufactured too thin and is causing major safety and mechanical problems and shared Ford needs to recall and replace the long block as this is a common problem and major safety issue with this vehicle as research has shown.

Bought my car used with 100000 miles. Was maintained of every 3000 miles by a Ford dealer before I bought it. Vehicle went in for check engine light, no issues with how the car runs, low coolant. Vehicle was pressure tested and we were told there was a crack in the cylinder and that the engine would need to be completely replaced. This will cost upwards of 10k. Per my research this is a known ticket and huge defect that Ford knows about. We asked if we could get e engine replaced under the goodwill repair program through Ford and we were denied there as well.

Ford has done multiple engine swaps costing customers $8,000 for a defective block they changed in the newer years. I feel we should not pay for their mistake!.
The check engine light turned on. It was diagnosed at auto zone as 'cylinder 2 not firing correctly' and the possibility of a bad sparkplug. At the Ford dealership (2 days later), it was diagnosed as a 'coolant intrusion'; leaking coolant into the engine. The engine currently works but the leak will cause engine failure. I understand that a TSB is not an official recall; however, it demonstrates that Ford was aware of the defect. I firmly believe Ford bears responsibility for this failure and the financial burden it has caused. Additionally, after only 16 months, the battery inexplicably failed and required replacement. While this was covered under warranty, it further illustrates the unreliability of this vehicle. This expense was not the result of normal wear and tear but of a documented defect that should never have been passed on to consumers.

While driving at highway speeds the engine suddenly began knocking, white smoke billowing from the car and it came to a stop. No lamps prior to failure. My 2017 Ford Edge, 74,000 miles 2. 0 eco boost had a code after hesitating, running rough and having white smoke from exhaust. The check engine light came on and the code was po302. We replaced the coil pack and the light continued. Brought it to local dealership and they confirmed TSB-22-2229 and needed long block for 12,000$. After much research, for some reason other eco boost cars have had extended warranties but of course not this model. Is this real life? the safety concerns and the cost are outrageous to say the least.
