Ford Edge owners have reported 6 problems related to front air bag sensor control (under the air bag category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Ford Edge based on all problems reported for the Edge.
Front end impact into a tree; multiple airbags deployed with the exception of the primary driver's side steer wheel airbag. The car sensed and attempted to call 911 but was in a rural area. Just concerned about why that with all the other airbags deployed and no sensor noted to activate the steering wheel airbag.

The incident has happened four times, so far, twice within two minutes. Driving down a straight, flat road and the car completely shuts down. Accelerator does not work, air bag sensors deactivate, complete loss of control. Cars behind had to swerve into a ditch to avoid hitting my car because the car completely shuts off with no notice, going 50 mph. Now happens every time I drive vehicle for longer than 20-25 minutes. Hill start assist not available message appears and car shuts down without warning traveling at high speeds. Service engine light appears and service engine notification. Airbag sensor off light illuminates. I've found this has been a known problem since 2002 and there have been no recalls. They are still manufacturing malfunctioning etb in vehicles and someone is going to die. Thankfully, I was not on the expressway. I have this issue documented on video, as it happens every time I drive my 2016 Ford Edge. Https://www. Law360. . Read more...

This problem has been confirmed to exist in both a 2011 and a 2014 Ford Edge. With a passenger weighting 72-75 lbs in the front passenger seat, the air bag turns on and off depending on how the passenger is sitting on the seat. This same passenger has traveled almost 50,000 miles in a 2011 mustang which has a similar sensor system and has never had the air bag turn on. We are able to reproduce this problem at will. This information suggests a problem in the Ford Edge with the software that monitors the front passenger seat sensors and determines when to turn on the front passenger air bag. This was reported to Ford on 07/22 and we checked on it on 09/23 and there was no update, indicating that they have not taken any action on this.

For about 3 days the message kept coming on that the front passenger airbag was not working. The on/off light said off about 98% of the time. And a icon light in the dashboard would occasionally come on. The message said the sensor was blocked, but there wasn't any change in the area around the seat. Went to service the 2/19 and they said they could not find anything wrong. It actually turned back on when I drove in to drop it at service, of course. But we did go about 3 days with no airbag for some reason. Just felt I should report this before it becomes a problem.
