Power liftgate failure recently, I put my hand on car to steady myself while my wife got my walker from the back of the car. She closed the hatch, but I had not lifted my hand and my finger was caught by the hatch. My wife immediately pushed the button on the hatch but it would not open. She then tried the dash button. It did not open. She started the car and tried the button and the hatch did not open, but did release just enough to release my finger. What if had been alone. 30,000 get their hands in car doors each year. What if this were a child and the hatch would not open. There are times where the hatch will not open! there is no way to open the hatch manually. This very serious. There must be recall and Ford must replace existing controls with fail safe controls.

I am leasing the vehicle and had it for 6 months. When parked and loading groceries into the rear, the liftgate has come down on my head and back at least 5 times on its own. There is a sensor that is under the car and activates when your feet are under it. Faulty design. You cannot load the back without this liftgate coming down on you. I have been hurt and suffered headaches after getting hit with the liftgate. I have contacted Ford and have an open case with them addressing this issue. I researched this issue and it seems there have been many complaints about this same issue on the internet.

I opened the electric liftgate and was in the process of placing a wheelchair into the back compartment when the hatch decided to close automatically. The liftgate struck me on the head and continued to push me down. I had to push on the liftgate as hard as I could to get it to reverse. If a young child had been hit it would have caused serious injuries. We called 2 Ford dealers who offered to give us an appointment for service with a 2 week wait. (boy, do they care). I ended up with a mild concussion. . . . . . Nausea and mild lightheadedness. Something should be done to stop this liftgate from hurting people. . . .
