12 Structure problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/21/2013

On 10/21/13 at 6:30 am I was driving on my daily route to work along interstate route 95-south. As I was driving over the high level bridge in portsmouth, nh, I heard a very loud bang. The vehicle had not struck any object, nor had any object struck the vehicle. I looked up and saw that the entire moonroof had completely shattered in place. I immediately pulled off the next exit. When I exited the vehicle and inspected its exterior, I confirmed that there was no indication that anything had hit my car. There was no sign of any object having struck the moon roof. There were no localized impact cracks or puncture holes anywhere, yet, a strip along all four Edges of the moon roof had separated, while the center area stayed intact, but was completely shattered. I brought my car to the portsmouth, nh Ford dealership and the service manager looked at my vehicle's moon roof and agreed that the damage did not appear to be caused by something hitting my car. Fmc has documentation of his statement. Sm took pictures of the moon roof and submitted a to fmc. Fmc immediately denied the request for replacement. In the meantime, the service manager escalated the request because he felt very strongly that this was not a result of something hitting my moon roof. The request was once again denied. Mr. Xxx has continued to make calls on my behalf this week to fmc, asking how anyone can make a determination without sending someone to inspect the moon roof firsthand. He was repeatedly told for three days that Ford was working on coming up with a resolution. On 10/23/13 Ford called and offered to pay for half the replacement cost of the moon roof. Due to the lack of service from Ford motor company, I had to submit a claim through my personal car insurance.

14 Structure problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 06/21/2012

I have owned multiple vehicles and never had a problem like this. I bought a 2008 Ford Edge in Nov 2011. By June of 2012, I had water pouring into my vehicle through the dash onto my vehicle floor. My mechanic said that the condensation drain was clogged with leaves, which caused the water to rise. The water shorted out the motor for my fan, so my whole motor had to be replaced. Now I am having this problem again. The only people I know of who have had this issue are Ford Edge owners. Due to owning various makes and models of vehicles and never experiencing this problem and from internet searching, I believe this is a defect with the Ford Edge.

15 Structure problem of the 2012 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 05/22/2012

Driver: 83 year old woman. . . New auto: Ford Edge 2012, no injuries, vehicle damage approx $2000. 00 no property damage. . . . . Problem: lady stepped on accelerator rather than brake. . . . Reason: the brake pedal at rest is higher than the accelerator pedal at rest. The driver is used to an older (Chrysler 2009) vehicle which there was not an appreciable difference in pedal height, stepped on the accelerator pedal, thinking she was stepping on the brake. . . . Resolution: discussing the incident, the woman was seated in the Ford Edge and asked to see if she felt a difference in height of the brake vs accelerator pedals. She did, and has since practiced going between pedals, lifting her foot to access the brake, rather than merely sliding her foot to the left. . . . . . . . It is this writers opinion that many of the unexplained accidents where a person, especially when an elderly person is driving, has mistook the accelerator for the brake is due to the height of pedal difference. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . It might be wise to make aware this problem to manufacturers and the public. . . . . . . . . Thanks.

16 Structure problem of the 2011 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 07/19/2011

On July 19th, 2011 while driving south bound on folly road in charleston, SC I was slowing down towards the intersection w/ fort johnson road. I was travelling approximately 30mph when I heard a very large pop or explosion like sound. After a second or two, I noticed shards of glass falling off the roof over the back window. I pulled over into a lot and found the rear most fixed glass roof panel (of the panoramic vista roof) had completely shattered. The local Ford dealership indicated that Ford will not treat this as a warranty covered item. The vehicle was brand new, bought only 4 days prior to the incident. I have formally submitted a complaint with Ford and am supposed to receive a response in 15 days. I had no choice but to file an insurance claim in the meantime - the vehicle can not be driven and needs to be fixed. This has apparently happened in other panoramic vista roofs from Ford, and just like in this case it happened spontaneously and without any impact from any object.
