The contact owns a 2001 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle made a loud noise and black smoke started to emit from the rear end of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the engine was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was unknown.
While driving only at low speeds, steering column will make a loud noise and it could cause future steering problems. Dealer notified. The cover on the bottom of the steering wheel was broken.
