The gas pedal get stuck when the temperature is cold. And is danger because if you are in the stop and you star drive may be gas pedal is not working and you are in the middle the intersection and produce accident. And is all the time when is cold weather.
Gas pedal getting stuck/not working off and on for last year; gasket was replaced, now recently sticking again. Today, was on arterial when pedal stuck, luckily no traffic as for several minutes vehicle would not move. Got pedal unstuck after several tries and lifting with toe, so was able to get home. Car in shop now. Dangerous!.
The gas pedal will get stuck down. The vehicle will stall. I would have to use my foot to try to lift the acceleration pedal up. Sometimes it would pop into place quickly while other times, I had to keep lifting it up with my foot. This happened while on the freeway and other cars were coming full speed behind me, but I was unable to get the vehicle back in motion in a speedy manner. This has occurred early morning, midday, and night. It has been on the city street and the highway. I researched and saw that Ford had a recall for 2001 - 2004 for the throttle body issue which is due to the sticking acceleration pedal. When I went to Ford, they said that my VIN was not included in the recall nor the consumer appreciation for certain models although it was the exact same issue. My vehicle is a 2005 Ford Escape. The mechanic said that there were many cars that came in with this issue, but the sales woman pretended as if she never heard of the issue. I paid almost $1,000 to fix an issue that other vehicles had fixed in a recall.
Accelerator sticking in neutral position. Mechanics can't find whats wrong and its very likely to cause an accident. I have read many articles that this is common in older models.
I received my Escape as a birthday gift two years ago. On several occasions since my gas pedal stops working and I have been unable to press it down, it won't go. This has happened while on city streets and on interstates. On a couple of occasions I have been able to pull over or off the road, put it in park, turn off the engine, restart my car and get it going again. I have tried pounding on the gas and that does nothing, it won't budge. I have no idea when this will happen, so I cannot just expect it to, it happens, day or night, hot or cold temperature, driving down a straight highway or turning on a city street. I am afraid it will happen while I am driving in the snow or while one of my kids are driving it. I have tried explaining to them what to do, but of all the things they need to worry about while driving, the gas pedal sticking should not be one of them.
Ehicles gas pedal gets stuck up and cannot be depressed at all while car is on and I am driving. It happened this week several times on very cold days. While driving or while stopped at light and trying to go I cannot depressed the pedal, even when pushing hard. Eventually it depressed for me after several tries. Vehicle gas pedal has also gotten stuck down twice previously with car accelerating uncontrollably, which happened for almost a minute then it popped up - resulted in near collision { thank goodness its a manual transmission]. I have read in many on-line discussion boards of many other individuals having their gas pedal on Ford Escapes stick up or down also.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the accelerator pedal became stuck and the vehicle accelerated. As a result, the contact crashed into a tree. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries reported. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 43,000.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. The contact stated the while she drove at 35 mph the accelerator pedal stick to the floor board. The accelerator pedal had to be depressed several times to release the pedal. The failure was experienced several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage were 48,000.
Whenever the outside temperature dips below freezing, my gas pedal will suddenly get stuck and the car coasts to a stop and will just sit there idling. The first time it happened I was able to "stomp" on the pedal and it freed up, that is no longer the case. When the temperature dips into the 20's it is even worse and will get stuck, eventually free up and be fine. . . . Unless I then enter highway speeds, it will do it again. I have found that warming the car several extra minutes seems to eliminate the problem at slower 35mph speeds. However, upon entering highway speeds, even after warming the vehicle for ten minutes, it will get stuck after several minutes of travel at highway speed. It will free up after coasting to the side of the freeway and sitting for several minutes with car idling, but can then get stuck yet again after several minutes at highway speeds. This creates extremely deadly situations! I called Ford and they said there is no recall for this vehicle and I also went to the local Ford dealer they claim to have never heard of this problem and have no idea what could cause it.
The gas pedal sticks some time, both when starting out and or trying to accelerate. The gas pedal sticks and if you apply a little more pressure it then kind of click past the place where it sticks, often causing the engine to race. It is uncomfortable trying to start-up in traffic, or keeping a constant speed, as the pedal seems to have that resistance just when you need to give it just a little gas, but suddenly you have given it too much in overcoming the sticking. It actually started at about 30,000 miles, and seems to get worse when it is colder.
The gas pedal was stuck after mashing on it hard it broke loose when approching a stop sign I stopped and try to go again but gas pedal was stuck why is there not a recall. I also have transmission and rearend problems but they both are costly repairs I am concerned about the gas pedal please fix it before someone gets hurt there really should be a recall on it.
My pregnant girl friend was driving the Ford Escape to work, when the gas pedal got stuck to the floor and would not release for about 30 seconds then about two miles down the road it did it again for the same amount of time. After that she parked and had it towed to find out we had a defective throttle body that Ford will not cover under there recall.
Several times, the accelerator pedal would stick to the point that I could stand on it and it would not budge. It happens most frequently in colder weather but the temperature of the car has no effect. There is no real pattern to when it won't work. Ford recommended replacing the throttle body, however after researching, the throttle body is not something that is normally replaced at this mileage.
After starting the car, the gas pedal felt like it had a brick under it. It would not move. After the car warmed up, it worked again. During the last month, this has happened in traffic, forcing me to pull off the road since I could not accelerate, several times in very heavy traffic. While driving recently, on the highway, hours after beginning my trip, the accelerator became stuck, for 2 or 3 seconds, causing me great concern. Now, every morning I have to wait about 15 minutes for the pedal to free itself in order to be able to drive the vehicle. It sticks off and on at least twice during the warm up period. I don't have exact dates, but this has happened several times during the last few months intermittently and has been very frightening when it happens in traffic. This happened to me a few years ago, a time or two, but the problem went away. Now it is a daily occurrence. The cooler temperature seems to be a factor. I am reluctant to bring the vehicle to a Ford dealer since I have read many postings from people who have been unsuccessful getting the problem corrected, even after spending a sizeable amount of money. Additionally, I cant find any evidence that Ford has any idea how to correct the problem.
While traveling on the interstate in the left lane during rush hour traffic, the gas pedal stuck and would not accelerate any longer. Caused other cars to suddenly slow while trying to get off to the ramp. The pedal would not release for approximately 10 minutes. Then after traveling maybe 20 yards, the pedal stuck again for another 5 minutes.
Son was driving vehicle when gas pedal stuck and would not go down--he pushed pedal down with all his strength but it would not move.
I have experienced several cases over the years with the 2005 Ford Escape seeming to idle very-very low and when attempting to accelerate (for instance from a stop sign) the acceleration is very very slow and then ramps up after a few seconds. This occurs intermittently but regularly and despite taking it to several repair shops, none have managed to provide a reasonable explanation but have all recognized it. Recently I have noticed issues, especially at highways speeds, of the vehicle "shuddering" as if the brakes are having trouble slowing the vehicle which im concerned may be from the throttle not disengaging properly when released (almost like its stuck or frozen). We have recently in my region of the country been experiencing a few cold snaps and that brings me to the most recent issue. When attempting to use the vehicle today, I noticed that the accelerator seemed "stuck" or frozen. I depressed it a few times, no luck as it seemed "frozen". I took it to mean that the cold (it got down below f. In georgia) and let it run for a bit to warm. I pushed accelerator and it seemed unstuck. I put in reverse and attempted to accelerate backwards. I found the pedal would not come off the floorboard. I stopped the vehicle and after looking at the pedal, I was able to move it freely and looking at the connection I thought it had broken or became disconnected. I came back from work after getting ride from wife and went to inspect it. The pedal this time acted as expected although I could hear squeaking and it thumped when I hit the brakes. It seems that the cod had frozen something or exacerbated whatever was causing issues in general. I called Ford and they mentioned something had been done in 06 and then I read article about 17 year old who died after her Escape throttle became stuck in a similar way after having a recent repair.
I sometimes can not get my gas pedal unstuck. I have to keep tapping it and then press really hard. It gets stuck usually when the weather is colder out. Sometimes it takes me a minute or two to get it going and then when I do I almost get whip lash taking off.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal became stuck to the floor board when parking or in reverse. The contact had to depress the accelerator pedal several times for it to release. The failure was experienced several times. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 98,000 and the current mileage was 123,000.
Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, he attempted to accelerate further but the accelerator pedal was stuck. The accelerator pedal began to operate as normal after waiting a few moments. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 42,000. The VIN was unavailable. Sm.
Accelerator gets stuck without warning. I was almost rear ended because I could not move at the stop light. I pressed the accelerator, stomped it, and it would not work. I could not press the accelerator and make it work. Eventually it unfroze and I was able to move. This is very dangerous, it has done it at times when I was on the road and I couldn't move.
As with many reported, my gas pedal sticks more and more often - especially when the weather is cold (45 degrees or below). It will happen once or twice about 10 minutes into a drive and then not happen again. The dealership says nothing is wrong, but clearly something is. Its been going on for years.
When the weather is cold, the gas pedal sticks when you try to accelerate from standing still. When it does kick in the car jumps and could cause an accident. I have looked this up and it seems to be a recurring problem, however, Ford has stated that it is based on VIN and March - April of 2004 was a problem but June 04 (my man date?) was not. This has happened repeatedly since about a year or two after I got the car. It appears to be a carbon build up problem, however, it is ridiculous to have to go in once a month to have it cleaned.
The accelerator on my Ford Escape sticks in the up position when it gets cool out. It happens intermittently after you brake and then go to accelerate. Very scary on the freeway. Push the accelerator and it does not go down, no acceleration. You have to keep lifting your foot and pushing (hard) tho get it to accelerate we have tried spraying it with lubricant and using graphite, neither has helped. This started when it was about 3 yrs old and has gotten worse. It is now 5 yrs old and has become a dangerous problem.
My 2005 Ford Escape's gas pedal is sticking. I will be sitting at an intersection, and suddenly when pressing the gas pedal it will not accelerate. It is as if there is a brick under the pedal and it's completely stuck. This has happened at numerous times when attempting to drive forward into an intersection or when pulling out into traffic, and has almost caused a severe accident. There have been numerous reports of this happening to Ford Escapes, so please investigate further before there are any additional injuries or deaths. There needs to be a recall.
I have a 2005 Ford Escape and was having problems with the gas pedal sticking. When pressing on the accelerator pedal, it would not move. I took my vehicle to the dealer and they replaced the throttle body. This part has been replaced three times. [12/20/06, 10/8/08 and 12/6/09] the part is evidently defective and causes a safety issue. I shouldn't have to pay for it to get fixed every time. They need to issue a recall.
Accelerator gets stuck. Was okay until about 100,000 miles and then without warning, could not press the accelerator. Was in an intersection and almost got hit. Couldn't even press it if I "stomped" on it.
During cold weather, the gas pedal will stick and not accelerate or release. It will not release for sometimes up to ten minutes. This happens several times over several days in a week during colder months. This has been consistently happening since 2009. The most recent on 11/5/2012.
Car sits in the driveway and when it is turned on, especially in the winter, the accelerator sticks to the point that I have to put full force to jam the pedal down to take off. If I am at a light and stopped, the same thing happens. I have the repair shop fix this issue twice but decided to lodge a complaint based upon news reports. I have not had any other issue with the SUV and I love my Ford. I am not sure that his is a safety issue and I have been trying to find out.
The accelerator sticks when revving the engine while letting out the clutch. After exerting an increasing amount of pedal pressure, it suddenly unsticks, and the engine overrevs. This results in a jack rabbit start. The Ford dealer said that only fix is to replace the throttle body assembly, which is not covered by the warranty. I believe this is a safety issue and is a good candidate for a recall.
2005 Ford Escape gas pedal sticking, to the point where I went to get in my car and drive and the pedal would not budge. Had throttle body replaced and exactly one year later it is doing the same thing. Tried wd-40 to no avail.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while parked she attempted to start the vehicle when she noticed the gas pedal was sticking causing the vehicle to accelerate. The contact started to tap the gas pedal and managed to unlodged the pedal. Also the contact mentioned that the failure occurs constantly during the winter. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnostic testing. The technician stated the throttle needed to be sprayed with wd-40. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 100,000.
Gas pedals sticks. This is an intermittent problem. There was a recall for this same issue for 2001-2004 vehicles. My vehicle is a 2005. This is still an issue.
A few years ago, I started having problems with my gas pedal sticking. It seemed like a brick was underneath the pedal and no matter how hard I pushed it would not unstick. The problem lasted about a month and then went away. Every once in a while, the pedal would stick slightly for just a second, but not anything that really concerned me. Last week (3/7/2012), the pedal started sticking bad. It seems to be within the first 5 minutes of starting the car and can stick for 10-15 seconds, which is very scary when driving. I had to pull over a couple of times, just because I could no longer accelerate. Now, I have started driving around the block for a few minutes until I don't feel the pedal stick anymore before I continue with my drive. The problem has been occurring almost daily for a week now. I can see how if I was turning left and my gas pedal sticks, I could easily get broad sided by an oncoming car. I don't feel comfortable driving the car anymore.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at any speed the accelerator pedal would stick in a partially depressed position and the vehicle would become inoperable. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic and the throttle body was repaired. The failure recurred. The vehicle was then taken to an authorized dealer, where they were unable to diagnose a failure. No further assistance was offered. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 89,000. Updated 08/28/lj the consumer stated the throttle body was cleaned. The gas pedal sticking happened quite often. Updated 08/29/12.
