1. While driving on freeway using cruise control, I tapped the brake to disengage. Cruise control did not disengage but instead the car accelerated and I almost hit the car in front of me. Very scary and dangerous. 2. Two days later when I got in my car to leave, the gas pedal was completely stuck like there was an invisible rock under the pedal. My friend followed the gas pedal cable under the hood and removed the black cover and un-froze (un-stuck) the end of the cable so I can at least get the car back home. I was up-north at that time and very scared driving the car home because what if this happens when I'm going at a freeway speed. I promptly leased a new car because these two issues scared the heck out of me. I still have the car but would like it to get repaired. I contacted Ford hqs on 10/25/2013 to communicate the issues I experienced and to assist in resolution as I do know there were re-calls on other Escapes with the same issue. They stated my car was not one of the cars under re-call for this issue. I further expressed that the car should as there are many others with a 2005 Escape with the same complaints as I researched the web. She stated if there is a recall in the future I would receive a letter in the mail. I asked is there anyone else I could accelerate this issue to and she stated my issue is documented in the system. The repair for this issue is very expensive. Why is the re-call not covered on 2005 Escapes but on 2004 Escapes? my 2005 Escape was actually built in 2004. According to Ford hqs, my VIN# does not come up for the re-call!!! can you help me out on this and for others with the same issue? just search the web and you will see many people with the same complaints and dangers of this. Thank you.
Recurrent problem: the sudden inability to accelerate because the gas pedal won't budge. The throttle cable is binding somewhere. A couple of years ago the throttle cable snapped on our 2005 Ford Escape, breaking off behind the accelerator pedal inside the cabin. (we had taken the car in for this hard-to-press-gas-pedal problem when the car was very new, and at the time the dealership did not discover the cause and could not reproduce the problem. ) after it snapped, the cable was replaced by the Ford dealership at our (considerable) expense. Now the gas pedal is once again refusing to budge several times on each drive, and we have to take the vehicle in again for inspection. The sudden inability to accelerate increases the likelihood of rear-end collisions. If the throttle cable binds as you're merging onto a highway, a high speed rear-end collision could occur. If you're unable to accelerate as you're crossing a road where cross traffic does not have to stop, you can be a sitting duck for a broadside collision.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. The contact stated the accelerator pedal was stuck to the floor while the vehicle on and while driving at low speeds. The failure was experienced numerous times. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 12v353000 (vehicle speed control: cables) (engine and engine cooling). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 95,000. The current mileage was 98,000.
While driving, the gas pedal sticks. It feels like there is a brick under the gas pedal and it won't budge. I mash down on the pedal and even stomp it. It will depress after several minutes or when it feels like it. This seems to be happening more as the weather gets colder. When I researched this online, I found recalls for the 2000 - 2004 Ford Escapes experiencing this issue speed control cables), but nothing for my vehicle. I have also found, through a simple internet search, that this is a common problem with Ford Escape owners, but Ford has not done anything about it.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the driver of the vehicle was traveling 55 mph when the vehicle began to accelerate independently. The driver shifted into neutral and turned the vehicle off. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection or repairs. The manufacturer was contacted and advised that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 12v353000 (vehicle speed control:cables). The failure mileage was 100,000.
I had to have the throttle cable replaced had it done at d patrick Ford Ford recalled 2001 thru 2004 models for same replacement. I contacted Ford and even though I purchased my 2005 in April of 2004they pretty much said sorry about your luck. I still think they should have reimbursed me for this due to it being the same issue with the same vehicle made at the same time frame the said they had not had enough complaints for it to be a recall. My daughter and grandchildren could have been seriously injured or worse. Please check this issue on 2005 Escapes [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. Accelerator pedal freezing up while driving or a stop sign/traffic light. Engine is 2. 3l, 4 cylinder with a 3-speed automatic with overdrive, front wheel drive, cruise control, power steering and a/c. The temperature was six degrees and it was snowing with five inches on the ground. Started car and the pedal would not moved, after 15 minutes of warming it up, it began to work, but kept sticking. Got to a stop sign and went to hit pedal to go; nothing, I just coasted into the intersection with cars approaching both ways. Finally, I let go and went. It did the same thing at two lights on the way home. On the way home, which is 10 miles from work, the pedal kept freezing up every time I gave it gas. The speed limit was 65 mph and the road was clear at the time. Got home and pulled the vehicle into the garage where I keep it when not being used and turned the heat on and started to work on it. I cleaned the speed control cable and accelerator at the throttle body connection point. Disconnected both and checked the throttle body and hooked it back up. I put wd-40 on the cable and it started to work like new. I put everything back together and pulled it outside to get cold again. The next morning, I started the vehicle and the pedal was frozen again. This time it was worse than before. After 5 minutes it started to work some, I put the vehicle back in the garage. I arrived home the next morning, and it would not work at all. I checked under the hood and all was ok. This time I went under the dash and sprayed some dw-40 on the pedal bracket assembly. I sprayed a long burst of wd-40 onto the cable and it started to work again. It looks like the cable is fraying on the shield. Updated 02/14/11.
Throttle cable sticks when the 2001-2004 was recalled I questioned Ford they said too bad even though I purchased the vehicle in April of 2004 it is a 2005 and they would not cover me on the recall gas pedal sticks a lot using brakes at same time when in park it won't go until you do gas and brake.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. While entering a parking space she lightly applied pressure to the accelerator pedal, and then the vehicle accelerated without intention. Brake application would not stop the vehicle as a consequence she crashed into cables of a wall. The vehicle was towed to a local repair facility. A mechanic concluded that should would have to pay up to $2000. 00 in repairs. The model year was excluded from recall # 04v574000 (vehicle speed control:cables). The failure and current mileages were 60000. The vehicle identification number was unavailable.
The gas pedal sticks when its cold out, first I thought there was water frozen after my feet was wet from the snow. Second I thought the heat from the heater dried out the movement of the gas pedal. So I sprayed wd40 on it didn't help, next thought it was the cable out in the engine, I sprayed the cable and linkage didn't help. Finally it warmed up and the sticking of the gas pedal went away (2008) now in 2009 the same thing after the car warms up its ok, not sure if something is binding or what.
Consumer received a recall notice for the accelerator cables on 2005 Ford Escape. As the consumer was on her way to the dealer, she was nearly killed. The vehicle would not stop even when the consumer had her foot on the brake. The emergency brake did not respond as well. The consumer she believed she was charged for other things that the dealer claimed needed to be taken of. The dealer performed a fuel injection service and changed the fuel and air filters.
