Steering wheel initially started to pulsate at stop light. . Next incident I started the vehicle and there was no power steering, turned vehicle off and restarted and had steering back. . . Next incident steering wheel pulsates while driving and loses power steering while at speed. . Pull vehicle to roadside and restart and regain steering. . Not having this vehicle recalled to fix this issue is the most insane thing I have ever heard of. . If a frail person or elderly has this happen to them, people will die. . Its not a matter of if this happens but when it will. . If it hasn't already. . Anybody reading this I hope you or your children or family or friends or anybody for that matter does not die as a result of this matter going unresolved. . . It is mindboggling that Ford turns its back on this issue. . Im not alone in this, there are complaints all over the internet. . Can you imagine a loss or multiple losses of lives after so many complaints being registered? please help.

On Dec 27 2013 we were driving Escape . When trying go around curve Ford lost all power steering which caused us to almost hit wall. My husband drove to side road. Shut it off . Waited few minutes started it power steering was back. Took it to garage was told power steering sensor was going out . Was told it be 1123. 00 cost. It happened again on January 3rd 2014. Was told that this is a safety issue and that Ford knows its not working right. Need a recall before someone gets hurt or killed. Our Escape is not only one doing it. The ones with electric power steering are failing. I'm scared drive it much.

Failure Date: 12/19/2013

Our Ford Escape lost power steering right as were going into a curve in the road. There was not warning that this was going to happen. Lucky I was able to get the vehicle stopped. Once I turned the car off and back on again the steering started to work. This problem started to happen more often which prompted me to research what the problem was. I was surprised to discover that many Ford Escape owners have experienced the same problem. Everything I have read states the steering column is faulty and needs replaced. This is a serious safety concern since this is my wifes daily driver.

39 Lose Power Steering problem

While driving the steering column began to shake and I lost all power steering. I was also informed this has caused wear on my tie rods and they are now in need of replacing.

40 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2013

We lost power steering upon restarting the vehicle. Had this happened at road speed we most certainly would have had a major safety concern.

41 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2013

Vehicle lost power steering while driving. While vehicle is idling, steering wheel pulses back and forth slightly, but occasionally turns right by itself. Ford states that this is an issue with the sensors on the steering column wearing out, but is not a safety issue? I guess brake failure is not a safety issue either! the "fix" is only 14-1500. 00. This should be a mandatory safety recall repaired at Ford motor company expense.

42 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2013

Twice in the last month, while making sharp turn and u-turn, we lost our power steering. The first time was when turning into a parking lot, but the second time was in traffic. Each time it took all of our strength to get the steering wheel turned so that the vehicle could be moved out of traffic. Both times we put vehicle in park and turned off ignition. When re-started, power steering was fine. This is a very dangerous vehicle failure. We were fortunate that we were able to get out of traffic each time, but may not be as lucky the next. When we got home, we googled 2008 Ford Escape steering problems to see if there had been a recall that we were not aware of, and we were astonished to see how many other people had reported this same failure. A recall needs to be be issued before someone loses their life.

43 Lose Power Steering problem

Drove vehicle yesterday, no problems. This morning started to drive and lost power steering. Made it back home but could have been bad if on highway.

44 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2012

Lost power steering. Turned car off and on again power returned. Few weeks later while in parking lot same problem. When looked up problem discovered this was a problem with a lot of 2008 Escapes. This was the year Ford changed to electronic steering. I could not take the chance of this happening while driving on the highway or at a higher speed. I transport my grand children a lot so I had to have it repaired. The bill was $1500. 00 I reported to Ford but they had already decided this was not a safety issue!!!.

45 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2012

As I was backing up, I lost power steering. I was unable to turn the wheel without great force, and backed into the porch. After turning the car off and turning it back on, this resolved. It happened again the next day going forward at 40 mph. I could hear something in the steering column click and then lost power steering. Now the power steering has completely gone out. When I start the car, I can turn the steering wheel all the way one direction and "trick" it into having power steering for a moment before it clicks off again. I have sustained a neck and shoulder injury from having to use my entire body to turn the wheel, and slamming into the porch when the wheel got "stuck" in a turned position and I was unable to turn it bsck. It is unbelievable that no one has died as a result of Ford's defect. Will the NHTSA wait until then to force Ford into a recall?.
