Vehicle will stop running instantaneously. Car will restart after several seconds. No engine warning light so there are no codes to read. The frequency had increased from every few days, but now happens every time you drive.

I have had to spend over $5,000 in repairs for this vehicle and I’ve had it for over a year. It was listed at $6,999 at a used car dealership so I got it as is and have had issues ever since. There is no recall on my car according to the VIN# however I strongly disagree with that. When I first got it, it drove great for a week and then the problems started to arise. Every time I came to a complete stop the car would turn off completely. So I would have to put it in park and turn the key off then restart it and keep it moving a little. This kept going on for 11 months, until it turned off at a stop light and I couldn’t get it to start back up. I was almost hit by traffic coming up behind me (going no less than 45 mph) because of where the car was located. Turns out the motor basically combusted from the inside out. This was caused by the oil leak that could never get fixed because the gasket would always give way. After having to work for 4 months scraping together $3,200 plus paying for a rental car weekly, the motor was replaced and it was working well again. Until it wasn’t. The power steering is controlled by an electric pump which makes you more prone to getting into an accident. My power steering locks up every time I start the car. It did this before the motor was replaced but now it’s even worse since the motor was replaced. I have to turn my car on and off about 15 times before my steering wheel unlocks and I can move it normally. It takes my whole strength to turn the wheel when it locks up. I haven’t been to a Ford dealership yet but I do plan on going to get them to check it out since a lot of 2008-2012 Ford Escapes have recalls on the power steering sensor. Long story short. This car has had to have so many repairs for things that normally don’t need repairs every 2 weeks and I want it to get looked into because I’ve never ever had car cost so much in repairs for things that shouldn’t be breaking so fast and easily. I have all the repair paper receipts.
Escape bogs down in 1st gear and barely goes. I have almost been hit multiple times because of this. No engine lights are on.
While driving my 2009 Ford Escape it began to slow down. I pressed the accelerator even more, but the car came to a complete halt and the lights on the dashboard all turned on. I braked, place it to parking and turned the engine off. I restart the car and was able to drive away. This has occurred 4 times already in the past 2 months. Each time this has occurred, I've been driving less than 40 mph. I've taken the car to the shop to get scanned and nothing has been detected.
Abs system failed brake pedal went floor. $2200. 00 to replace. 48172 miles. 43540 miles ft car lurched at stop. Replaced purge valve$388. 00. Axle seal leak. 38807 miles. $410. 00. Transmission went out at 16271 miles. Rebuild trans $3148 miles covered under extended warranty.
When I was headed to drop my daughter off I was driving down a street that has speed bumps which I usually don't have any problems. Until this morning (08/08/2019) when my power steering kicked off and I had to physically turn my wheel. I saw the their was a recall for 2009 Ford Escapes and I was wondering if mine was one of them.
When your driving ass "go power" is lost and a wrench light illuminates in the lower left corrner. It does not matter where im driving but it just decides to do it when it wants to. Has happened 3 times in the past month or so its happend when I was going 10mphs and 30 mphs and about 45mph. . . Super super scary luckly no one was behind me all times. . . Last time this happend was on 7/23/2019.
I noticed the transmission started to slip and I added fluid once. Then it happened again and I noticed transmission fluid inside the engine bay like it has been spraying. I done some research and found this vehicle to have a transmission cooler leak and others had it fixed under recall for 2008. This is a issue with this model vehicle.
Happened three times in 20 minutes on 08/16/2018: vehicle was in motion each time, suddenly and without warning engine stopped, all warning lights lit up on dashboard and lost complete control of steering, speed control. Wheels locked up and almost caused multiple accidents. Had to pull over and turn on vehicle again.
2009 Ford Escape, 3. 0l XLT. Vehicle engine power lost and the vehicle went into limp mode while driving on the highway, on sept 7, 2018. A red wrench light flashed on the dash during the event. Was able to avoid traffic, park on the shoulder, restart the vehicle, and drive at normal speed to the nearest exit. This same power loss has occurred at normal driving speed two more times after the highway event. There are no engine codes found after diagnostic check by local auto repair shop. The vehicle is no longer being driven on highways. This Escape was diagnosed by Ford dealer in 2017 for customer satisfaction program 13n03 regarding throttle body failures. The dealership found no issues with the throttle body at that time.
Engine turns off when driving. This happens at different speeds in varying conditions; ie. Driving slow, driving fast, on the highway on side streets.

The failure mileage was 161,444.
I have 80,000 miles on this vehicle. My check engine came on. I have hesitation when giving it gas. I have a vibration when car is running and in drive I took to a Ford dealership, they check for the issued ans it came up with a codes, p0012, p0022, p0341, p0346 related to 11-12-5. The dealer stated they would need to tear down the engine to inspect, not repair, but inspect. Estimated cost would be $1500. My car only have 80000, should this be under a warranty. Ford need to stand behind their product and repair my car. I'm confused why would my car have this issue when it only have 80000 miles and not 10 years old.
The contact owns a 2009 Ford Escape. While driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle lost power and the service engine and wrench warning indicators illuminated. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to northside Ford Lincoln dealer (located at 1312 north keller dr, effingham, IL 62401, phone number: (217) 342-3929) where it was diagnosed that the throttle body failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact also stated that the vehicle was previously serviced at northside Ford Lincoln dealer for the same failure; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was called and informed the contact that nothing could be done. The approximate failure mileage was 76,000.
The contact owns a 2009 Ford Escape. While operating the vehicle, the service engine sensor indicator illuminated and, while driving, the speed would suddenly decelerate. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed. The local dealer (al piemonte Ford located in milrose park, illinois) was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 40,200.
Was driving on i80 in traffic, with the traffic speeds were roughly 35 mph. After a short period in traffic, when I went to accelerate I noted that the engine had died. This left me unable to accelerate or do anything other than break or cruise in a very busy interstate. I then stopped the car, put it in park, cycled the key, the engine fired and the vehicle was able to complete the 10 mile drive home. This is a very dangerous scenario. And honestly it probably wouldn't be a big deal but this has happened on this vehicle in the past and is a known issue on Ford's in general. This happened with the same vehicle roughly 10 times in 2013. The engine would unexpectedly turn off, sometimes on the interstate, sometimes in my work parking lot, sometimes on a residential street. Highly unpredictable in terms of the speed or driving conditions. At the time, Ford replaced the electronic throttle body and eventually re-imbursed me once the extended warranty came out. The issue had not occurred since then til today. I suspect the throttle body is at fault again, with a 95% confidence. Will be taking it to the shop to confirm. This failure mode is a known issue and has been recalled on 2005-2009 mariners and Escapes. The failure mode of losing power on a congested trafficway is highly dangerous and extremely forseeable both for NHTSA and Ford. This issue should be recalled, not addressed via an extended warranty.
There has been multiple issues with this Ford Escape XLT. The abs light continues to come on. The wheel of the car locks when you try too turn when driving wheel. It is very dangerous. The sensors even though we replaced them keep blowing which causing the truck to decline in speed while driving in traffic. We had to turn it onto to the grass to avoid accidents. Constant engine issues after we had it fixed multiple times. We are in a financial negative because of this truck. The tire sensors keep going also. These issues are happening after we have gotten this truck fixed multiple times and more dangerously while we are driving it. The brakes, steering wheel, transmission an the engine are all faulty. We have put thousands of dollars into the this vehicle. This is our transportation to work and we are behind with the notes. Even when the vehicle is stationary there is a grinding, almost like the wheels want to fall off. We need this fixed we need help!!!!!.
The contact owns a 2009 Ford Escape. While driving approximately 70 mph on a highway, the vehicle drastically decelerated to below 40 mph. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle continued to lose power. The contact coasted off the road and restarted the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 102,000.
While driving around 40 miles per hour on our way to dinner, the car lost all power. We pulled to the side of the road because pressing the gas pedal had no effect whatsoever (steering and the brakes worked). We turned the car off, waited a minute, then turned the car back on. It restarted with some difficulty, but then we were able to resume driving. While driving at speeds of 30-40 miles per hour, the same event happened 3 more times on the way to dinner. The same issue occurred 2 more times as we drove home from dinner. This was the first day we experienced a problem, but the problem was severe and we were driving during rush hour traffic. I considered the car extremely unsafe to drive and took it in for service the next day. Ford confirmed the throttle body needed replacing.
Stopped at a stop light at a highway intersection with an interstate off ramp on July 26, 2016. Noticed that the engine had stopped/shutoff on its own. Put the transmission in park and it restarted as normal and continued on with no further problem. There was no engine light or clue as to what happened. Seems to be related to other complaints on internet re throttle body or cam or crankshaft position sensors.
Takata recall while driving on the highway at 60 mph, my 09 Ford Escape completely slowed down on me. I pushed on the gas to make the car speed back up but was unable to. I went from 60 to 30 mph in a very short amount of time. I was luckily coming up to a speed zone of 45 mph, but I coasted until I was able to turn off the highway. I came to a complete stop and my rpm continued going up and down. I eventually turned off the vehicle and let it sit for a minute. I then turned it back on and drove under 45 mph the rest of the way home. It was very scary as I had my two children in the car.
Car lost power and was only able to chug home. Not able to drive up hill. Car was driving at about 40 mph when suddenly lost throttle response a check of engine code shows throtle closed.
The contact owns a 2009 Ford Escape. While driving, the vehicle experienced a loss of power steering. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the power steering sensor and steering column had to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the onboard diagnostic warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle experienced a loss of power. The dealer stated that the mass air index was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. In addition, the maintenance warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle experienced a loss of power. The vehicle was repaired, but the abs, low tire pressure, traction control, and parking warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired again. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 169,000.
Tl-the contact owns a 2009 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at low speed, the engine separated from the cradled causing damage to the front axle. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic for inspection, which located the engine bolts failed due to defective material. The vehicle was not repaired. I was driving home on a 6 lane highway yesterday after work. Posted speed limit 65 mph. My cruise control was set at 65, I was in a center lane when my vehicle made a loud clunk and the cruise control cut off and I started losing power to the car. The engine was on but pushing the gas pedal did nothing. I was trying to get out of traffic to the side of the highway with cars speeding and swerving all around me. I was petrified. I called the dealer and the car was taken for service today. They told me it was the throttle body and motor and it was on an extended warranty so I did not have to pay for it. The receipt clearly states this is recall notice 13n03. I have now read about this online and you guys are letting Ford call this a "customer service satisfaction program". Well, you should know that someone is going to be killed. There is no excuse for not notifying customers of a default with a vehicle that endangers people. I never received a recall letter and I could of died yesterday.
Braked at a light or stop sign at least 3 times when 2009 Ford Escape XLT wanted to accelerate.
My car will surge forward when I accelerate after a stop.
I was driving down the road at 45mph and went to accelerate and when I pressed the gas- the engine felt like it was off- I still had electrical power. I was not able to give the car any gas at all. I coasted until I could pull off the road and when I stopped- the car was idling very rough. The "throttle control/ powertrain" light had come on. I turned off the car and sat for about 5 minutes. When I turned it back on, it idled rough for about 3-4 seconds and the light was still on. Then it smoothed out and the light went off and I was able to drive it back to my house (about 1 mile).
The contact owns a 2009 Ford Escape. While driving various speeds, the vehicle suddenly stopped accelerating. The failure occurred when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the throttle body was replaced as part of a manufacturer customer satisfaction program. Approximately two years later, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 150,000.
After fill-up, engine went into limp mode and vehicle would not accelerate. First instance happened while my daughter was pulling out into traffic and resulted in near accident. The engine has done this several additional times but not for long enough to set the trouble code or light. This resulted in a dangerous driving situation and all vehicles with this potential defect need to be recalled. Took to the Ford dealer on 7/28/14 and they advised me they could not fix the problem unless the trouble codes were stored in the pcm. 'this is not right- they need to repair because the NHTSA states that only approximately 50% of the vehicles with this problem have triggered the trouble codes.
The vehicle suddenly lost engine power, came nearly to a stop but continued to jump forward until I turned it off. I have been told the problem is the throttle body.
Had car set on cruise control, felt a pop or a snap under car, looked down and cruise went off and I was coasting, I had my foot in the gas and the rpm's were at 1000, gas was not revving and the rpm's didn't move, coasted to side of road. The engine sputtered as if it was going to shut off, but it didn't. I shut the car off and restarted it and it was fine, until 3 days later when it happened again. Have taken it to a Ford dealer 3 times and they claim that it is not tripping a code and that they can't replace the throttle body until they have a code. I don't know what else to do, I have been driving a loaner car since last Friday and they still haven't been able to recreate the incident.
