38 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2017

My check engine light would come on and off intermittently for a couple of weeks then came on and stayed on. I took it to a Ford dealership and they said it was my coolant bypass valve. The check engine light would come on if I accelerated at a normal speed, I didn't floor it but my car would shift hard. I had to accelerate extremely slowly and it would shift ok. But after that happened off and on for a couple weeks, now it sporadically shifts hard. I haven't noticed a pattern to it. I am waiting on he Ford dealership to get the parts in.

39 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2017

TSB 16-0052 indicates a defective part that can cause engine shutdown from loss of coolant. This can be sudden and is, therefore, a safety issue. Loss of engine on a freeway at speed in traffic can cause a fatal accident. This should be a safety recall, not a TSB. The first indication is a check engine light.

40 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2017

I was driving on a freeway at 65mph and the engine cuts out to an idle. The check engine light came on. I almost got rear ended getting the car over to the side of the road since it lost all power. After pulling over I was able to start the car as the light went out. This happened 3 more times where the car would cut out to a rough idle, these occurred while I was on city streets but almost caused 1 accident as it cut out. After shutting the car off it would restart with no issue. This last time the car had to be towed to planet Ford to be repaired. They said it was a throttle body issue and it cost me over 700 for the repair even though it is still under the powertrain warranty. I do not see why this has not been recalled due to the car being unsafe to drive and I do not know why the replacement of the part alone will not cause further stalls of this vehicle. I have found other people with the same issue where the car goes into "limp home" mode. I am currently having the car repaired or I would be able to attach the invoice for the throttle body repair.

41 Check Engine Light On problem

Also the check engine light is on sometimes it will go out then it comes back on.

42 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2017

I went to a used car dealership on 05/20/2017, saw the 2013 Ford Escape and was very interested. I test drove the car multiple times, checked for everything I knew to check for and decided that I wanted to purchase the vehicle. On my drive home ( 2 hour drive) because I have always shopped through the same dealer, and halfway home my check engine light came on. I took it to the shop yesterday 05/23/2017 and found out that the turbocharger engine was not working, I wasn't even aware that this car had a turbo charger engine. . Kind of surprised Ford would put a turbocharge engine in a SUV. Anyway, I was informed that the part wouldn't cause immediate damage, but eventually the turbo engine would start falling apart and would cause metal debris to shoot into my exhaust, causing a whole world of other issues. The part to have replaced is on back order until August because apparently many people with the same car are having the same issues. Its going to cost me 1400. 00 to fix this issues because I bought the car "as is". Not only that, but the mechanic said that the car doesn't even need a turbocharger engine, but since it was built in, its something you have to keep, you cant just get rid of it. And approximately every 50k miles, its going to need replaced again!!! I was never made aware of any of this when I purchased the car, and am now stuck paying 11k for a car that isn't worth anything to anyone who knows about the major issues it will continue to have. Not to mention the list of insane recalls. I feel like I was lied to, mislead about the condition of the car but unfortunately, as far as I can tell, there isn't anything I can do about it. Anyone can contact me with suggestions or comments through my personal email : ililbitcrazy1984@gmail. Com.

43 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/19/2017

Intermittent check engine light (happens when in park or when driving). Hooked up to code reader and got p026b7; found online that the the engine coolant bypass valve is defective, but not recalled (TSB 13-02-15). Dealer confirms code and that engine coolant bypass valve is defective and should be replaced but referenced TSB 16-0052. Despite the part being so defective it has been discontinued, redesigned, and replaced the dealer claims it isn't covered under any form of warranty.

46 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2017

Our 1. 6l Escape's check engine light came on. Dealer diagnosed bad oxygen sensor w/fix cost of $350 & although we had both a premium pre-paid maintenance plan & extended warranty in effect, both dealer & Ford indicated this emissions repair was not covered (Ford extended warr. To 75k mi due to # of recalls). We could not afford dealer cost so forced to seek alternative shop or car would fail emissions inspection. Repair shop stated root cause of bad sensor was fluid dripping from directly above sensor which due to extensive buildup, appeared to be long time problem (which Ford dealer never noticed in 73k miles of regular servicing??!!). This car is a total piece of crap. Given 14 recalls, 89 tsbs & nearly 600 complaints, Ford should be forced to buy these cars back!.

47 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2017

As many other Ford Escape 2013 owners, my car stopped working properly putting my life and those of my wife and kids at risk. It started when the engin began to cut off when idle. At the begining, there were no check engine light. Car will restart but a 150 m later the engine will start fighting to stay on and most of the time the engine lose the battle. So I restart again until ( after 2, or 3 times) the engine stays constantly on. My big concern was with the hazardous and risky situations I found myself in, specially while getting inro a busy road or a high way and having the engine to shut down andlet I didn't have time when the engine let me out of power. Some drivers are in hurry and might not have the time to stop their vehicle before hitting me. That's why I always parked my car on the sidewalks while in distress. When I took the car to one of Ford dealers, they couldn't find the issue. I took it to a private mechanic and he made me change a lot of pieces but still not fixed yet. I am going back to the dealer and hopefully they'll fix the issue. It cost me $ 2500 until now and still looking for the issue.

48 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2016

My car started acting up when the check engine light came on. It has run at lower speeds , sputtering and seems to have loss of power while driving in local conditions no more than 15 miles or so. I called Ford where I purchased the vehicle, and they offered to tow it. At first they made it seem like everything is covered, and now its 2 weeks later after them telling me its some sort of sensor that needs to be replaced and the cost is 1100 dollars, the car is 3 years old with 30000 miles on it , they will not fix the car until payment is made. It seems that its an issue they should have to fix on there dime not mine.

49 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/22/2016

Exactly two weeks after purchasing this used Ford, I start it up to leave in the morning for work and my check engine light came on. I took it up to the shop to get looked at and the code coming on the code reader is p26b7 replace coolant bypass valve. Hmm common problem in several 2013 Escapes there was actually a recall on many of them except mine??.

50 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2016

Purchased used 2013 Ford Escape vehicle with approximately 33k miles in October of 2014. Purchased extended warranty as warranty was due to expire at 36k miles. A week or two after purchase, car stalled. In the shop it went. Several months later check engine light came on. In the shop it went again. Multiple times later car has been in the shop again for same "check engine light" for 2-3 weeks at a time; transmission replaced twice. The car was back in shop again last week for same issue check engine light this time dealer claims purge valve issue.

54 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2015

Multiple times check engine service engine fault now comes on, killing all power and steering to vehicle. Stalled out in traffic, on highway, at a stop, low speed, no speed, high speed. Lost all ability to accelerate or control vehicle. Traction control sensor light lit up, check engine light lit up, airbag sensor lit up and yet running the check systems on it responds that all systems are normal and no active messages. Previously had issue with a bad wheel sensor affecting rpm's, speed, and acceleration. It took the dealer 4 days to figure that out as no computer codes displayed. When turning the lights on manually, the sensor on the dash doesn't light up and it does not turn the lights on unless it is completely dark outside. Not good for these rainy overcast mornings. The engine stalling happened in all different circumstances and traveling in inner city traffic and losing power has proven to be quite dangerous. It first happened yesterday while traveling short trip turning into parking lot. Today it occurred 12 times in a span of a 25 mile trip with my granddaughter in the car. I read the Ford website and ntsa ones and feel it could possibly be related to recall # 14s17 but when I run the VIN number, it only shows active recall related to airbags. It has had multiple recalls since first 3 months of ownership and dealer where purchased never seems to know or have parts in order to address recall issues. The problem is that when this happens, you lose all ability to control the vehicle and there is no indication of when or where it's going to happen. We were sitting at an intersection and when the light turned green, I accelerated and it lost power and there was nowhere to get the vehicle off of the road as it was traffic all around us. I turned my hazards on and prayed we didn't get hit by the oncoming onslaught of traffic.

55 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2015

Over the past 2 1/2 years that we have had the vehicle, the engine will stall out when taking off from a stop. It has happened 7 times and we feel like it is unsafe to drive. We had it at the dealer we purchased from 3 times now for this concern and they cannot fix and deny there is anything wrong. The dealer said they did not care if we had a problem as they cannot find what the cause is. I am a state certified ase auto tech and I think I know what is wrong. But as I said the dealer does not care. The service writer even wrote the wrong description on the ro of what the problem is. He wrote it for a check engine light and we never said that. We told hem that is stalls at slow speeds from a stop or has happened on very low speed turns.

60 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

The check engine light comes on intermittently, and stays on for about 48 hours. When I have taken it to the dealership they cannot find out why the light is coming on because the code is no longer visible. The car idles rough and cuts off when the car is warm and I'm stopped in traffic, at a red light for example. It is very dangerous to have my car cut off in inner-city traffic. It also occurred once when I was trying to start the car after being off for about 20 minutes. I had to start it 3 times in order for it to stay on. Each time, it idled very roughly and cut off within a few seconds.

61 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2013

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the engine failed with the illumination of the check engine light. In addition, the information screen center advised that the engine needed service and that the vehicle surged and stalled simultaneously. The failure was experienced numerous times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed; which located the failure at the map sensor. The map sensor was replaced several times however, the failure was not corrected. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 4,558 and the current mileage was 5,769.

62 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2013

I started my vehicle in the morning using the remote start feature. After about 10 minutes, I entered my vehicle, backed out of my driveway and put it in drive. Upon depressing the accelerator, the car hesitated, then surged, hesitated again and then stalled in the middle of the road. I put my hazard warning on and attempted to restart the vehicle. It would not restart. I finally was able to restart the vehicle after about 5 minutes and limped it back into my driveway. I called for tow service and had it towed to the dealership where I purchased it. The service manager informed me several times that there were no logged faults in the ecm even though I had a check engine light immediately after this occurred. Later however, I learned from the actual mechanic, that there were several codes logged and there was a technical bulletin out to update the body control module with new software. The tech stated he could not do that however as his tooling would not show the bcm module or allow him to program it even though the directions stated his version of tooling software should allow it. They called Ford tech support and received no answers. They sent me on my way with my vehicle and did not do anything with it. I'm fearful the issue has not been resolved and poses a safety risk due to lack of acceleration and stalling.

63 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

I purchased my 2013 Ford Escape in sept 2012. Since that time the vehicle has been recalled 5 times for fire hazards. I have taken it in twice for the smell of antifreeze and a check engine light. I was told the smell was my air freshener, I then took it back a second time with the check engine light on and has a sensor replaced that I was told would be the reason I was smelling antifreeze. It has been recalled several times for fire hazards that are very similar to the current recall. I am very concerned about the multitude of recalls for fire hazards on this car. I drive a lot of miles as I am a home health care nurse and are frequently in very rural areas. My concern is this,1. How can I trust that my vehicle will safely get me to my two jobs. 2. The number of recalls for fire hazards lets me know that they have not properly fixed my car in the past recalls. 3. I am a mother of a child that is very involved in sports that requires me to transport many teenagers to multiple meets, some many miles from home. I have talked to Ford motor company with my concerns and they have only told me that there is nothing I can do about this. They have no solution to this and stated that I could not file lemon law because in TN it has to be in the shop for more that 30 days. I asked if they would replace it with a . 2. 0 liter car as they have not had the recalls that my current 1. 6l has but I was laughed at. I am very concerned about my and my families safety.

64 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2012

The check engine light came on and averaged 15mpg highway getting to the dealership. They said it was the knock sensor. They replaced it and 24 hours later check engine light on again, same mpg. This time they say its the computer needs to be changed. One month later, check engine light on again with a fault and the engine surges.
