36 Engine Overheat problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2014

In August 2014, January 2015, February 2015, and March 2015 my vehicle went into "failsafe" mode due to an overheating engine, among other problems. The vehicle was towed each time to the Ford dealer's service center where the lease originated. Failsafe mode cuts power to the brain of the vehicle which shuts down the engine to "safely" stop the vehicle so the car doesn't light itself on fire. The car literally goes from 60 to 0 in a matter of minutes. Any time the vehicle has gone into failsafe mode I have been terrified of causing an accident or getting rearended. The car has been in and out of the Ford service center and pep boys for repetitive engine issues, coolant system issues, transmission issues, computer system issues, etc. There are 9 recalls on the car thus far, 8 of them have been fixed - the airbag recall does not apply to my vehicle because the airbag light is not on. My car has spent a total of 28 days in the shop since it was leased in 2013 for repeat repairs. I tried several times to have Ford buy back the remainder of the lease but was denied because the issues did not take place within the first 18,000 miles of the lease. I also filed for new york state lemon law and was denied for the same reason. I was forced to roll the remaining 9 payments ($4,044) into a new lease for a 2015 Ford Escape on 3/9/15 because the 2013 Escape was unpredictable and problematic - it was not safe to be on the road. The engine overheated approximately every 6 days for two months and it was deemed "unrepairable" by the mechanic but corporate still refused to buy back the lease. Speaking of corporate - I was treated terribly by the regional customer service manager. She screened her phone calls and refused to call me back unless I asked for a supervisor. She spoke to me like she was punishing her 5 year old child and her favorite word was "no. ".

37 Engine Overheat problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2014

Since our 2013 Ford Escape had the Ford recall 13s12c and 13s12d completed in early April, the vehicle fuel mileage has dropped by an average of 2 mpg. Some aerodynamic features of the vehicle were compromised under the recall to help keep the engine from over heating and starting a fire. Its a good thing we leased this vehicle because we will be returning it to the dealer when the lease is up and most likely will not purchase a Ford vehicle to replace it. Buyer beware of 2013 Ford Escapes built in late 2012 and early 2013 with the 1. 6 liter ecoboost engine.

38 Engine Overheat problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2014

My automatic transmission is not shifting when I drive uphill and it's causing the engine to rev at redline. When I was driving back from la over the weekend, the car struggled the entire drive. Something was burning under the hood. The engine was also overheating while driving uphill. Ford agreed to buyback this death trap in mid Dec 2013 but they have been stalling the entire process. Apparently my check is missing. I don't want to be in this car when either it burst into flames, the transmission or engine seizes.

39 Engine Overheat problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2014

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, there was an abnormal burning rubber smell from the vehicle as the high temperature high warning display light illuminated. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 13v583000 (engine). The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 13,000. . . . Updated 02-28-14 the computer system began reducing speed and the gas pedal could not produce acceleration. There was a burning rubber smell and the vehicle would no longer move forward. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where the dealer determined the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was recalled and serviced in December 2012. There was severe engine overheating and fluid leaks coming from the vehicle. Updated 03/18/14.

40 Engine Overheat problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2013

Was driving doing 40mph when out of no where I received a message instructing me to immediately pull vehicle over and shut down due to engine overheating. Never received a "low coolant" light, just a sudden warning to pull over. Had to be towed from the incident. Luckily no one was injured and there were no accidents as it was a two lane, one way, street with no shoulders. Opened the hood and I had absolutely no engine coolant. Also noticed that the engine was in fact very hot. I am concerned that this has caused engine damage on my brand new vehicle.

41 Engine Overheat problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

My Ford Escape 1. 6l engine will overheat if I park it by the beach all day & then try to drive over the foothills to the valley. This is a consistent and repeatable problem. I have two videos that I showed Ford but apparently they can't fix it. This car is not safe to drive since my car can overheat when I'm on a road like highway 17, which doesn't have a shoulder.

42 Engine Overheat problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2013

Vehicle reported engine temperature too high and that I should pull over safely. This is the same engine overheating / fire hazard problem supposedly fixed during December 2012 recall.

43 Engine Overheat problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2012

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated that he was notified of a recall for the vehicle under NHTSA campaign id number: 12v551000 (engine and engine cooling). The dealer was contacted who confirmed that there was a concurrent recall for the vehicle. The contact stated that he was never advised of the recall by the dealer or the manufacturer. The contact was concerned that per the recall, there was a possibility that the engine would overheat and cause a fire. The vehicle was serviced under the recall. The contact had not experienced a failure. The current mileage was 25.
