1 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 07/24/2018

The vehicle is a 2013 with less than 48k miles on it. The problem started with rolling backwards when starting from a stop on a hill and with a hesitation then a slight jerk when starting from a stop. That happened off and on one day then cleared up for about a month. When it started again it would also have sluggish acceleration like it had a shifted into a gear that was too high, or would wind up like it had shifted into neutral. Again, it was intermittent like it was a loose wire or bad circuit. Then it started intermittently making a kind of a grinding noise and shortly after there was a loud noise and the transmission was toast.

2 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2017

Vehicle was in drive, the engine was making a noise and after applying the brake for a turning car in front of me, I went to apply the gas and it would not accelerate. I put the vehicle in park, while on a state road and then moved the gear shift into drive and got it to a garage about two blocks away from the incident. Shut the vehicle off and one of their mechanics took it for a drive, came back and said nothing was wrong. So I got in the car and about 3 to 4 miles up the road, it started acting up again. I took it to the dealership that I purchased it from and after replacing a water pump, coolant level sensor and axle seal, they told me it was fixed, so I went to pick it up. After I paid $822. 08 for the bill, I drove the vehicle a block and the incident occurred again, so I drove it back to the dealership and told them that they didn't fix the original problem that I brought it in for. They contacted me that it is something in the transmission, which is very expensive. Now I am left with a year of car payments on a vehicle that isn't drivable. It doesn't appear that Ford or the dealership is going to stand behind a defective product. The vehicle has never been driven off road or abused, actually I have taken it faithfully for all recall repairs and servicing needs.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. While driving various speeds, the vehicle would shift hard and a warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was towed to the dealer; however, the details of the diagnosis could not be provided. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the windshield wiper fractured while the vehicle was being repaired. After the windshield wiper was repaired, the windshield was fractured by the dealer. The contact stated that the vehicle continued to shift hard after the repair. While attempting to accelerate from a stop, the vehicle would stall. The vehicle was shut off and turned back on, and the vehicle returned to normal. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. Also, while pulling into a parking spot, the contact heard an abnormal noise and the vehicle stalled after moving three feet. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN and failure mileage were unknown.

4 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2012

There is an acceleration lag on partial throttle. This mainly occurs when starting the vehicle or when accelerating after a turn. When no acceleration is felt, the throttle pedal is depressed further and, after a delay, the vehicle takes off like a rocket. When driving the vehicle using the manual shift mode, it operates without an acceleration delay. The vehicle was brought to the dealership for this problem. They looked at the vehicle and stated it drives like all of the other 1. 6 liter Escape vehicles on their lot. The delay in acceleration has the potential to cause an accident. A side issue is with sync. The clock loses time, it's very slow to respond, it isn't always able to sync phones, understand voice commands, and it's locked up. . . Requiring a master reset. There's also too much road noise transmitted to those on the other end. . . Consequently, it's difficult for them to hear the conversation.
