2002 Ford Escape XLT - 38,000 miles. Radio turned off by itself, dashboard gages illuminated and then car died. Car was able to be re-started but then died shortly after. Ford has determined that the alternator has blown. As 38,000 is out of the warranty period, the dealership and Ford corporate has declined paying for the repairs. For a vehicle that has been well maintained, it seems that this type of problem should not have occurred so early in the vehicles life. Of course considering the many, many issues I have had with this vehicle that were covered I guess I should not be surprised. As a side note, I supply components to the automotive oem's including Ford. That is why I bought a Ford. After this experience and seeing how Ford works internally I don't think I will ever be able to buy one again. Alan goldenstein.

2001 Ford Escape has repeatedly stalled during normal driving. Car currently has 33,000 miles; however, I began having problems early on. Car has stranded me several times. Car has been towed in several times and dealership can find nothing wrong it. Dealership has replaced alternator, transmission, fuel hoses, sensor, computer, etc. And car still stalls. This week it had to be towed from my garage to the dealership because it would not start. Dealership again could find nothing wrong with car. I love the car, but am terrified to drive it as when it stalls everything locks up and I have had a couple near miss accidents trying to get off the road. I have an infant and this is unacceptable.
While driving at 40/45mph , put turn signal on , radio came off. A few seconds later vehicle stalled out. Contacted dealer, dealer replaced altinator, but vehicle stalled out again.
I was driving on the interstate at approximately 50 mph downhill during rush hour when I lost power. I was on a stretch of interstate that had no shoulder so I coasted 1/4 mile to the shoulder. I was towed to the dealer who replaced my alternator. Six weeks later, I go to start my car and it wouldn't start.
Car stalls while driving. Happened during deceleration on an interstate off-ramp.
Vehicle has stalled twice at 35-40 mph, dealer has replaced delta pressure feedback sensor, eec relay, idle air control and did wds selftest, data logger road test. Vehicle stalled in rush hour traffic. Consumer lost power steering and brakes, however consumer was able to slow to a stop, vehicle started right back up. Again when the vehicle stalled, consumer took it to the shop where they checked ground connections, replaced the idle air control unit and athe throttle body. Consumer was informed that they could not guarantee a 100% fix because they did not know what was really causing the prolem. Also, the alternator went out 5 days after consumer purchased the vehicle.
When driving or idling, my 2001 Ford Escape has stalled 7 times in the past three weeks. The auto has only 8600 miles. I first took it to the Ford service shop, who replaced the air flow valve and the idle regulator, but this did not solve the problem. The car stalled again two days later. I returned the car to the shop without any help from the dealer because the shop could not duplicate the problem. I explained to the shop manager that I had read on the internet that a pcm relay could be the culprit. The frod delaer shop very hesitantly replaced the part today. I feel this is a very serious problem because I have almost been hit twice when the engine has stalled. I lose power steering and power brakes, thus losing control of the car.

The vehicle was unstable at 65 mph with a slight wind and front end makes tumbling sounds on rough roads. The alternator light comes on intermittently.
