Red battery light came on. All accessories went off and the car wouldn't start again. I just replaced my 12v battery the night before. The car had been driven 2 miles, at most. The brand new battery had been in the car less than 24 hours. I had no steering capability as my steering wheel locked up. I couldn't shift. The brake pedal pushed my foot back like it was "pumping" my foot. Put another fully charged battery into my car and started right up. Drove home and as I was pulling into driveway exact same thing happened. Both batteries were drained completely dry of any voltage. Abs light on all the time. Check brake system/regen brake disabled on drive info.

My steering wheel began to shake about a week and a half ago. Last night as pulling out my drive way my steering wheel was very hard to turn. O pulled back into my drive and noticed on the dash it read power assist failure. Before this my dash would blink out and I would have to tap it so it will come back on. When it does all the dials would go back into sync . The bad part is if you are not noticing your dash and park and turn off the car it wouldn't crank back up. My tire pressure sensor is on I had it checked and no one and find out which sensor it is. My oil change light want go out even after many oil changes. The company that does my oil change are not able to reset. This has been going on for a year and a half. Until last night when the power assist failure popped up. Please help and assist my vehicle was paid off 5 months ago. I really don't want to purchase another vehicle but I will if I really have to. I like my Ford Escape.

Within last week, twice while driving vehicle on a city highway, the engine suddenly shut off. Lights, radio, dashboard, etc. All continued to work. Notification came on dashboard stating "warning, vehicle is not in park. " fortunately, in both instances I was able to coast onto the shoulder into a parking lot and avoid causing a wreck or being wrecked into. This is a major safety issue! with car safely in a parking lot, I moved my transmission into park. I turned my key to the "off" position. I removed my key. I reinserted the key and tried to start the vehicle. Lights, radio, dash, etc. All came on. However, vehicle would not start. There was not a "click" as if the engine was trying to turn over. There was only a notification of "system start fault. " I tried our spare key, and received same notification. Vehicle would not allow me to move transmission from park into neutral to be towed. Steering wheel was locked up. Abandoned vehicle. After about 2 hours, returned to vehicle, and vehicle started. To clarify, everything listed here has happened 2 times and on 2 separate occasions so far. Tests at both autozone and o'reily auto parts confirm - as I suspected, since lights, radio, etc. Would turn on - that the battery and the transmission are working just fine. This is huge safety issue that the vehicle would suddenly shut off!.

Escape would not start on 10/14/19. Made clicking noise but would not turn over. Checked battery which indicated low voltage. Replaced battery on 10/15/19. On 10/17/19, attempted to start car. All lights came on but no sound was heard and engine would not turn over. Checked new battery which was within limits. Checked symptoms online and found issue to be faulty neutral safety switch. Upon further search, found numerous owners of 2008-2012 Ford Escape and Mercury mariners have the same issue. Would like to know why this is not a factory recall if it is happening this often.

This vehicle is equipped with auto stop/start technology. On several occasions the vehicle has failed to restart after the engine has auto stopped when the vehicle has been stopped for a red light. So the vehicle is stationary. The traffic light turns green, your brake lights come off but your vehicle doesn't auto re-start. You quickly put it in park press on the brake again and manually start the vehicle, all the time praying that the vehicle behind you doesn't crash in to your rear end. . .
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Ford Escape. While attempting to start the vehicle, the key turned in the ignition; however, the vehicle did not start. The contact stated that the failure occurred at least seven other times. The vehicle was taken to texas country Ford (321 e coke rd, winnsboro, TX 75494), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 82,000.
Attempted to start my vehicle and pushed ignition button. All of my panel lights and monitor started glitching and flashing and then everything went black. The engine did not start. There was a recall but my vehicle was not part of recall. I have owned vehicle for 2 years. I have had a drivers door lock cylinder fall out. I have rust in several locations, including hatch and passenger interior side of door.

8000 miles. The auto start stop system will not restart after stopping. It has not restarted after stopping in intersection to make left turn. Also after stopping at stop signs and stop lights. And when stopped on a hill at a stop sign, the vehicle will not restart, and rolls out into the street with no power brakes or power steering. A truly unsafe car. Dealer finds no codes and cannot duplicate, so will not service.
Tl the contact owns a 2019 Ford Escape. While driving, the vehicle suddenly shut off. Approximately two hours later, the vehicle restarted and shut off again after the contact drove home. The vehicle was towed to island Ford (3698 rt 9 south old, bridge, NJ) and unknown pins were tightened. After retrieving the vehicle and later parking it, the vehicle could not be restarted. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 800.

Failure at 80,000 miles, however the engine was replaced with a new engine at 76,000 due to problems from the coolant recall; this time the vehicle would stall when coming to a stop or while driving. Computer screen would show "system shutting down"; vehicle would go into "limp" mode, reduce speed and car would shut off without notice. Vehicle was towed in after issue occuring 4x in a 2 mile drive. Vehicle was towed in. Advised by the dealership that they could not duplicate the problem. After 30 days they returned the car with 75 miles test driven and showed that the tech reset the computer module prior to duplicating the issue. The service manager had me "reset" the vehicle by driving it. While driving 55mph the issue reoccurred at 100 miles after the system reset. The vehicle would not restart and was towed into the dealership. After a week they were able to duplicate "some" but not all of the issues. After speaking with the general manager of the dealership they decided to purchase the vehicle back by paying off the existing loan in exchange for purchasing a 2018 Ford Escape.
My key fob unlocked the car, as usual, put child in. Got in drivers side. Put key in ignition. All locks locked! car did not start. I hit key fob and the pad to unlock several times. . . Unlocked my door. . . I assumed all doors. Would not open door where daughter was in car seat in back (back passenger side). Key fob or door unlock would not work to unlock it. Key fob did not work at all after that first time and did not unlock her side. I got her out on driver's side backseat. We have video surveillence so incident should be on there. Vehicle was stationary. End of 100' driveway. No neighbors in sight. Terrifying to think if the key fob hadnt opened my door that last and apparently one and only time, if id be stuck in hot car with daughter in back seat.
Tl the contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The contact had to jiggle the key in the ignition a couple of times to start the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000. The VIN was unknown.
Vehicle has a known problem with the ignition. There is difficulty starting the vehicle due to a faulty ignition cylinder requiring the operator to have to push the key in, often with great pressure, then twist the key to get the car to start. Eventually the ignition mechanism will fail completely requiring the entire ignition housing within the steering column to be replaced and at great expense. I was left stranded when the car failed to start and had to have it towed. Repairs cost over $500. The problem never affected me during normal driving, only when the car needed to be started. A simple search revealed many other Escape owners report the exact same issue so it is highly unlikely this is a random problem or the result of normal wear. Indeed, this is a factory defect that was never addressed by Ford. However, this is a very serious issue since, as happened to me, the car can and will leave the driver stranded which, it should go without saying, is not just an inconvenience but also a potential safety hazard. These vehicles need to be recalled and the problem remedied by Ford. Since I already paid for the repair I think it only fair that Ford reimburse me the costs.
My Escape sel 1. 6l 6 months ago after getting a full tank of gas my car started and then started to shake and stopped. Car would not restart for 10 mins and only if I press the gas pedal to the flood. Call dealership and they said they had not heard of a problem and let them know if it occurred again. My car is stalling making a noise, shaking and then no power just dies. I am scared for my safety. It does it now while I am driving. I have found where there is a recall for the same year built and type car for this issue. Just not for the 1. 6 engine but the 2. 0 engine. I have had the car checked at to car places and they can not find the issue. . . . This car is not safe please help!!!! please look at the nva-215sm 15v-813 agian this happens while I am driving down the road at 45 miles an hour or pulling our from a stop!! I have looked on line an there are at least 40 other complaints about the 2013 Escape 1. 6l stalling while being driven! this is a safety issue!! and clearly the same issue as listed above on the 2013 Escape 2. 0 engine they were made at the same plant in louisville, same year etc. . . I am concerned I will be hit or my car. I can not let me teenager drive this car!!!! help help help.
Driving in stop and go traffic when stopped at red light the auto start stop will turn the engine off. Stepping on the accelerator pedal the car will not restart and a message comes on that says shift to park and manually restart engine. In all cases the engine does restart . But it does cause delays in busy intersections and hesitation on the driver to pull in to traffic . Problem is intermittent two to three times a week in daily driving.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the ignition switch failed and the vehicle could not be started. The contact replaced the key; however, the failure was not corrected. The vehicle was taken to crown Ford (420 merrick road, lynbrook, new york 11563, phone (516) 599-0600) where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 90,000.
While driving I will get hill assist and 4wd warnings while on flat ground my instrument panel looses power my heater turns off and door locks click some times its just the warning lights this has happened on the interstate going 65mph and rural areas going slow have had three occasions where the dash lights come on but car would not try to start until several tries this started oct 2017 63000 miles on car.
Car would sit in the driveway and lights and other accessories would come on. While driving the radio and other accessories would go off. Trouble with lift gate not opening and not closing. Car would not start sometimes. By wiggling various fuses and curcuit breakers the problem would subside for a while. I ended up spending over $1200. 00 to replace the fuse block and wiring harness to fix the problem. I am living with my fingers crossed. I am a woman living on an extreamly limited income but I need my car. These problems were experienced while driving down the road, parked in my driveway, or any other time my car was in motion.
All lights on instrument cluster come on randomly, gauges go to zero. Will remain in this condition until car is shut off. At times car will not restart without banging on the dash. Car does not have to be in motion for this to happen but most frequently it is. A new ignition switch did not solve problem. A check on the internet seems to indicate this is a common problem with this model car. This is an ongoing problem.
Car would not start. Once started, power steering completely out. Had to drive home with no power steering. Once power steering came on a day later, air is not working.
Re/ 2011 Ford Escape with 46246 miles vehicle did not start when the ignition key was turned on(engine did not turn over). The vehicle eventually started after multiple tries (key turned off then on again). The vehicle was taken into autonation Ford in torrance, CA. Where they replaced the "ignition lock housing" due to a broken ignition lock housing pin. Cost $733. 00. Repairs completed 12/07/2016.
I took my 2008 Ford Escape in to have the sensor replaced on electric power steering that should have been taken care of correctly to start with. I filed a complaint yesterday for that issue. I forgot to mention and add a complaint for another issue that I am having also with the 2008 Ford Escape. I am having problems with the ignition. When you try to start the vehicle it will not start. If you remove the key and try again then it will start. Or if you sit and wait a few minutes and retry to start the vehicle then it will start. I thought at first this was caused by the shaken in the steering wheel. However the mechanic informed me that I needed a ignition switch and it was a separate issue and bill. I could only afford to have the sensor replaced for the eletric power steering wheel so for now I can only hope and pray the ignition switch does not go completely out and leave me stranded. I have had nothing but problems with this vehicle. Honestly. . . I want to cry! every time I turn around it is something going wrong with this vehicle. Also I had to get the serpentine belt fixed last week as well. I dont know of what more I can say at this time. My nerves are shot worring about what will go wrong next with this vehicle and I worry if it will start to pick my daughter up from school and soccer or if she will be left stranded because I don't have a reliable vehicle. Not to mention having to worry; about having money for repair after repair. I am so discussed with Ford! also I have a issue with the vehicle making a noise. I thought the noise could be related to the serpentine belt but that is not the case. It is something else, but I can't afford to address that issue until I can get the ignition switch replaced.
Tl-the contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the ignition key independently moved into the off position and the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 111,000. Js.
The contact owns a 2003 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start several times without warning when the key was turned in the ignition. In addition, the vehicle stalled without warning more than once. The rpms raced and, at times, the instrument panel would become dim upon experiencing an electrical short or internal failure. The dealer was notified of the failures and stated that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified. The contact was uncertain if the vehicle would be repaired because the dealer stated that there was a manufacturer recall for these failures; however, the VIN was excluded. The recall details and failure mileage were not available.

Once again vehicle would not start after being parked for over an hour. Tried several times to start. All dash lights and headlights, radio, windows, etc. Would function, but no indication of ignition when key was turned. Tried both keys to make sure it was not a bad key. Neither key worked. Left car where parked overnight and returned in the morning. Car started. Called dealer and it was suggested that I drive the car in, rather than have it towed in. I did. I left the car at the dealer and was informed later that day that they had been able to verify my compliant. They indicated that it was a build up of resistance in a wire then the engine was hot. It was wrapped and I was assured the I would no longer have the problem. I did some research and found that some 2013-14 Ford Escapes have been recalled for insufficient compression of casing around the wiring, causing exactly the problems I have been having. All the potential problems listed in the recall, short of a possible crash have been experienced to date! my vehicle was manufactured at one of the affected assembly plants during the affected dates. However, the recall indicates 2. 0 liter engines. Mine is a 1. 6 liter engine. Therefore, dealer said they could not do anything for me and assured me the problem had been solved. I requested that the wiring harness be replaced because I felt unsafe in my vehicle and was afraid that it would stop suddenly and I could crash. I was told that repair was not possible, because my specific VIN was not recalled. I was assured that I should have no further problems. I accepted the return of my vehicle, with the assurance that if it happened again, we would escalate my request for replacement of the wiring harness. The dealer had my car for over a week.
Vehicle would not start after being parked for approximately one hour. Tried several times to start, headlights and dash lights would illuminate, but there was no indication of any power going to engine to start. No clicking (as with a dead battery - all lights were functioning properly). Waited 10 minutes and it started. Turned it off briefly to go inside to tell shop owner that car had started. Came back out, it would not start again. Tried several times to restart and it would not. Left car where parked and called a tow truck to take car to dealer in the morning. Dealer was unable to recreate the problem and was able to get the car to start each time. I was told that there was nothing they could do and to pick up my car. Which I did.
While driving about 30 mph, the car started sputtering as if it were running out of gas. I was near a gas station and as I was pulling in, the engine just stopped and the power steering went dead. The car then wouldn't restart. I called aaa and they couldn't start it, so I had the car towed to the Ford dealership. They examined the car and later that day told me the coils overheated and fried the pcm. Now it needs new coils on 2 cylinders, possibly more, and a new pcm with reprogramming. Cost quoted was $3520. The service tech that looked at the car said he hasn't seen this before, nor heard of this. After researching this problem online, I don't believe him. I wonder how many people haven't reported this because they were made to think their problem was a very rare occurrence.

This has happened 3 times now, 2 in southern California on the freeway at night. Hybrid vehicle has recall problems which makes vehicle stop running. Had it fixed, paid out of my own pocket in southern California and thought problem was fixed. Something to do with battery. Then on Friday, Dec. 12, it happened again as I was driving home from college, the vehicle stopped suddenly. I couldn't pull over, it won't restart even after many attempts. I waited 5 to 25 minutes, vehicle would not start. Finally had to call a tow truck to closest Ford dealer. I thought dealer could fix problem after having it all day but when I left and headed on highway, my hybrid vehicle stalled again on the highway. I have ptsd from this car, I never want to get in it. I don't trust it and after 3 different Ford dealers, all of my own money to pay, car still doesn't work properly. I paid a premium to purchase this vehicle and it is worthless. Now I am receving more recall notices about the airbags. I am afraid to drive my vehicle because if it stalls again I might be in a horrific accident as it stops suddenly with no warning whatsoever.

I was making a left turn when I lost power steering, making it very difficult to make the turn, the abs light, advancetrac light and the advancetrac off light all started flashing. I arrived at my destination the car was parked for 1 1/2 hours, when I tried to leave the car would not start.
While driving on highway I accidentally depressed the keyless start-stop button. The engine shut off, power steering and brakes were lost and engine would not restart by pushing start-stop button. I was able to slow car - with other cars close behind- shift gear shift to neutral and apply brake pedal so that start-stop button would restart engine. I have had Ford dealership check keyless start-stop system and they indicate that system works as it should. Start - stop button is located in drivers right knee area and is two inches from similar looking climate control button. Power steering and brakes were lost with engine off and car in motion. I contacted Ford motor company and they referred us to the dealership. This is a dangerous design flaw.
