2 Starter problem of the 2016 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 02/02/2021

Starting back in the summer of 2020 my car would not start, like the battery was dead. The car was parked in my garage, always stationary. I had replaced the battery in Jul of 2019. I've taken it to 3 mechanics testing the electrical system at $300 and also testing the battery at the other mechanics. After doing some research I found that the fob talks to the car even when it's not on or when the fob is not near the car. A couple months ago I purchased a trickle charger which I used for a month or so until I started to put the fob in a faraday cage to block the signal from the fob to the car. This seemed to help for a while until last week when I could not start my car. Again, acting like the battery was dead. I've also purchased a jump starter which was working when the car wouldn't start. The problem has gotten worse in the last week as I've had to jump it several times. I'm really at a loss as to what to do next other than sell the car.

3 Starter problem of the 2009 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 01/25/2021

I was driving down the road and came to a stop, my car died. It has been doing this for several months now along with a new development of my steering column shaking. I put the car in neutral to start it back up and it would not crank over did this several times and then it started. I was on a busy road trying to turn left and all of a sudden I had no power steering. The power steering assist said failure. Drove to work about 10 more miles with no power steering in a busy town, not fun. The low tire sensor is on as well, I have had it checked out and nothing is wrong with tires, they are at the proper amount of psi. This is my only vehicle and I am glad I did not have my children in the vehicle with me. This is very dangerous to have done to you while driving. I have had my battery and cylinoid and starter checked and they are fine, but my car repeatedly dies at a stop sign, and when I am slowing down or even when I am trying to pull into a driveway. These two things need to be fixed before someone gets hurt. I don't feel as if I should have to pay for these things since they are electrical and should be put on the recall list. I bought this car last year in hopes of not having to put alot of money into it and to have for a while. It looks like I am going to have to put alot of money into it or may have to buy a different car so I know my children are safe.

8 Starter problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 04/22/2018

2013 Ford Escape se bought 3/29/17at the time the 12v DC power outlet, aux port & usb port did not work. 4/22/2018 the vehicle stopped on the PA turnpike immediately after I received a warning high engine temperature, please stop vehicle safely. Service appointment for 4/25/18 & was informed that there was a recall on the engine coolant bypass symptoms, issues with the water pump & 2-3 other issues that were all covered under Ford recalls &Ford wexford would fix it on 4/30/18. 5/4/18 informed that they had not been able to contact Ford wexford for an update. I contacted Ford wexford & was informed that they did not have a 2013 Ford Escape to repair. I received a call back informing me that Ford wexford was unaware that the SUV was at their lot since 4/30/18 & they would not be able to service it until the following week. 5/10/17 I picked up the SUV and within 24 hours started having additional problems/signals including the service engine, seatbelt, battery, brakes, hill assist not available, high engine temperature stop safely and the speedometer not functioning. I contacted jd byrider was told there was nothing wrong with the vehicle and that it could possibly be the battery, starter or alternator. I was told to take it to auto zone to have a computer diagnostic. I returned the vehicle 5/17 & was informed that the vehicle would have to go back to Ford wexford. I spoke with andy at Ford wexford and he informed me that the SUV had a wiring issues they weren't able to fix, that the SUV would need a new computer system and that this would be 1-2 weeks. I was also told they had a call out to Ford CO. To discuss their concerns. On 5/31/18 I received a call informing me that the SUV needed a new computer system, that it was not covered under my warranty and that the cost would be $1100.

9 Starter problem of the 2011 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 01/02/2018

I have owned this vehicle since new. With now 62000 + miles I started having starting problems beginning earlier this year. The battery and starter have check out okay. The problem is with the ignition system. Sometimes the vehicle will not start when the key is turned- no noise, no clicking just nothing. I have learned to push the key in hard while turning and then the vehicle starts normally. At times even this will not work and I am stuck where ever I am until it decides to start after repeated attempts. After researching this issue on the internet I have read dozens of complaints from other people with the same issue across a range of years for the Ford Escape. I could not find any recall notices for this problem but there should be as I am guessing the number of vehicles with this issue has to be enormous.

10 Starter problem of the 2015 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 11/24/2017

Car starts/stops intermittently. Will continue to run at times with the engine switched off and key removed. Instrument cluster will completely blackout at anytime without notice. Starter will stay engaged after starting. Stationary and moving without warning on the interstate, doesn't matter where it may be it has become dangerous to drive.

11 Starter problem of the 2010 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 11/16/2017

Pcm has water damage due to placement under the hood. When the hood is opened water runs down directly onto the unit and into the wiring. The repeated water exposure has caused the unit to fault. This water intrusion causes the vehicle to fail to start intermittently. When turning the ignition, the vehicle will fail to engage the starter; however, headlights, radio are functional. Intermittently while operating the vehicle, all of the lights on the instrument cluster illuminate and the tachometer and speedometer will stop reading speed and rmps, resetting to zero. When this occurs it not impair operation of the vehicle. Additionally, the steering torque sensor is failing. Intermittently, the vehicle will display "power steering assist failure" on the instrument cluster. When this occurs, turning the car on and off repeatedly will temporarily resolve the issue.

12 Starter problem of the 2008 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 04/24/2017

Ford Escape 2008 has ignition switch problem. When turning the key when parked, there is no ignition to starter. Panel lights come on, but engine does not start. Ford recalled vehicles for this problem, but my VIN was not included. Extremely dissatisfied that Ford did not cover all make/model/year vehicles that exhibit this fault.

13 Starter problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 04/20/2017

I bought a used 2013 Ford Escape from dealership on 3/9/17. Car had 1 previous owner and 29265 miles on it. By 4/20/17 the car would not start while stationary with no indication of anything being wrong. I had the dealership look at it immediately when this happened after getting it towed by aaa whom also tested the starter and battery everything was reading normal . The car started on its own. And the dalership coukd find tge problem and told me to bring it back if this happened again. A week later it happened again while the car was stationary at cvs after being driven for 10 minutes I called the dealership and aaa, after waiting 45 minutes for aaa to arrive I try starting the car several times with no avail until I see aaa pulling into the cvs parking lot I tested turned the key 1 more time and the car started. The aaa tech checked the starter and battery again everthing read normal. I drove to the dealership and left with the same outcome of them not knowing what is wrong. This problem continued until my warranty ran out and the dealership said they could not help me anymore because the car is still driveable. I tried exercising the lemon law by reporting the dealership to office of consumer affairs and business regulation and was told they can only mediate and not much coukd be done because my warranty was over. Here we are 8/12/2018 and the car still has problems and will start after waiting anywhere from 5 minutes to 3 hours also it,constantly leaks atifreeze and has to be refilled every few weeks during the summer months the car will say " high temperature coolant low" out of the blue without any indication from the temperature gauge. I dont know what to do and dont have the time or money to deal with this.

14 Starter problem of the 2016 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 01/13/2017

Later that day vehicle cut off within 30 seconds of using remote starter. Dealer unable to duplicate problem or find any diagnostic codes.

16 Starter problem of the 2008 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 02/19/2016

August 2014 took my 2008 Ford Escape into local Ford dealer for recall notice recall 14s05 - power steering assist fault issue with torque sensor replacement - lindquist Ford dealership just upgraded a program into my Escape for abt 20-30mins, didn't check any parts for replacement, told me no parts were replaced there was no warning light so they didn't physically take the time to look. February 2016 - no engine light comes on but when I turn the key over for the last 6wks sometimes my Escape starts up sometimes, sometimes it does not with a notice "power steering assist fault" - as weeks went by, the steering wheel is shaking more randomly while driving and stopping. The only way to start my Ford Escape is by remote start to bypass the starter. Recently,I took my car into my local mechanic, after thorough investigation the torque sensor is cracked. I was told by Ford employees, 2 other local Ford dealerships & the mechanic to take the Escape back to the dealership who opened up the original recall back in August 2014. That original dealership did make a claim, Ford warranty denied the claim- the dealership didn't "choose" to tell Ford warranty they never looked at the recall parts in August 2014 they just did the upgrade, their liability "that's what the letter told them to do, no warning light no replacement parts". I paid $70+ for what the mechanic just did for free. That dealership did not check for any parts that needed replaced back on 2014. Not only did the dealership charge me $70, I took the Escape back to the local mechanic and paid $500 for a new torque sensor; same exact part falling under the recall "power steering assist fault". Denied claim on 2/19/2016, reason- it's been over a year since my recall update was done the dealership should have been replaced the part back in 2014. I drive 2 cars, seriously?.

17 Starter problem of the 2005 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 12/29/2015

Was driving my car to work - at first if didn't want to start but cranked fine. Let it sit idle and headed to work - 1/2 to work stopped at a light where it started to shudder like it was going to stall (never had any issues before and still no warning lights). Got thru the intersection and loss all power on the busiest street in bowling green. I didn't even have enough power for my emergency blinkers. Stuck where I was was a hazard of me being hit - had it towed to mechanic thinking it was the alternator. Alternator and starter both good - once put on the diagnostic machine - the car started smoking and sparking. End result - I have at least 3 coils, potential fried wire harness and pcm failure (a logged complaint but never a recall). The potential fix with no guarantee that this wouldn't happen again is 5-8k. My family could have been severely hurt if someone would have plowed into us. This is not a safe vehicle at all!.

18 Starter problem of the 2008 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 08/26/2015

Approximately 2 to 3 weeks ago I was sitting in a parking lot after shopping, went to start my car and it would not start. After about 10 minutes and several attempts the car finally turned over and started. I drove the car home and did not go out the rest of the day. This has happened several times. I called a mechanic and they said that it sounded like it was the starter. I did not think so, but took it to mechanic and they did the work and replaced the starter costing me money that I do not have as I am on a fixed income. Got the car back last week and yesterday was sitting in a car dealer lot and it happened again. This time it would not start and had to call for a ride after sitting in the hot 90 plus degree heat. My car is in the shop again today and they are going to try and see if they can figure out why it will not start. To me and my granddaughter it sounds like there is something faulty in the steering column. Either way, I am terrified that it will start a fire, or worse leave me stranded where no one can come and get me. I am an elderly woman and can not have these issues with my car. If this could be looked into and taken care of as soon as possible I would greatly appreciate it. I have the invoices from the work that has been done on this particular part of the car. Thank you for your time and prompt resolution of this matter.

24 Starter problem of the 2008 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 09/08/2008

All these items have been fixed by capitol city Ford indianapolis and mace Ford terre haute, in. I am still having problems with the throttle thrust and electrical problems. Currently my car will not start. Other mechanics said it was the starter, its not the starter its electrical sensors. The vehicle speeds up sometimes when the car is not being excelerated. Suspension, heater speed control stop working when they worked on the electrical and they refuse to fix it. There is more. I don't have my documentation, but I will submit it later. The car is at the shop - being looked and worked on - its still not starting - so we don't have transportation!! I cant afford another hit from Ford when they are not even fixing the problem.

25 Starter problem of the 2006 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 02/12/2008

At less than 28000 miles, the 06 Ford Escape limited produced a sharp, short scraping noise at the first turn of the starter. It mostly does it on the first start, but not always. Took it to jones west Ford in reno and their comment was "all Escapes do that". I'm retired, and will be driving this machine for a long time. I'd like it to be dependable. The sound isn't "normal" for any car. The dealership should have found the problem. (the car runs well other than that ). Help?.
