3 Ignition Module problem of the 2008 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 08/29/2016

For several weeks, it was having a difficult time getting my car to start. I had to push the key in all way in. . . Pushing it hard and sometimes jiggling the key to get it to start. I replaced the ignition switch (module) and that did not correct the problem and my car would not start at all. I had a locksmith change the ignition but that didn't work. Finally Ford said that it was the "ignition switch housing". This seems like Ford has a problem with defective parts. As the Ford dealer had to order a 2nd "switch housing" because the 1st one (the one in stock) was defective.

6 Ignition Module problem of the 2010 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 09/20/2015

I had been driving, then made a brief stop. When I started my car and put in "drive" to begin driving, my power steering was out. It was very difficult to turn the steering wheel. Luckily I was only about 1. 5 miles away. I managed to get home but had the car towed to northgate Ford in cincinnati, OH the next morning. After 3 days at the dealership, they called to say there was nothing wrong with it. I know that other Ford Escapes have been recalled for the power steering going out, but checked my VIN and mine was not involved. . . . . . Yet! two months later, I took the car in for continuing difficulty with starting (nothing would happen for about 10 turns of the key, then immediately would start) and inability to unlock/lock car with fob despite changing battery. They had to replace the ignition lock cylinder, cylinder module and bolt. Suddenly the car both started right away and the remote key fob worked as well.

8 Ignition Module problem of the 2005 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 12/24/2008

I was on my way to connecticut from maine on 12/24/08. I noticed that while we were traveling on the highway the car started running rough and skipping. I immediately pulled over to the breakdown lane where the car stalled. The car would start but not keep running. Called aaa and had to have the car towed to the nearest Ford dealership in plainfield CT. Vehicle could not be immediately repaired due to the holiday. The car was repaired on Dec. 26, 2008. The dealership replaced the power control module and also replaced 2 ignition coils # 2 and 3. Could not save pcm because there was a core charge for it, but I do have the ignition coils. Vehicle had 38,711 miles when this happened. Then on may 17, 2009 the #5 coil failed and had to be replaced. I still have that coil also. The dealer said that the coils were not warrantied under the emission control warranty which is 5 year 50,000 miles. The repairs done in CT totaled $729. 48. The subsequent repair was done by me. The cost of the coil was $79. 99.

9 Ignition Module problem of the 2002 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 10/22/2006

The key lock cylinder has been defective for quite a period of time in that it allows me to take out the keys when the vehicle is in drive or reverse. Car has rolled on some occasions. So far I have caught the problem before anything is damaged but I know for all the cars I have owned it is not proper that the keys can be withdrawn while in drive. I just reported it to the Ford dealer 10-22-06 and they said it was not correct but there had been no recall so probably I would have to repair at my own cost.

11 Ignition Module problem of the 2001 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 07/02/2004

Vehicle had a recall to reprogram power train control module which was corrected (?) on 6/9/04. On 7/2/04 vehicle would not idle and subsequently would quit running. Taken to dealer and dealer replaced ignition control valve. Dealer states it was not related to the power train control module reprogram. Car was out of manufacturer warranty, with 36,568 miles at time of failure. Other items of concern on this vehicle include the left headlight as defective assembly and allows moisture buildup. Dealer again refuses to acknowledge a defect and refuses to repair at their cost (estimate cost appx. $200 to repair their defect). Other issues include the replacement of a coolant sensor, and replaced a dpfe (environment problem that was covered by warranty).

14 Ignition Module problem of the 2002 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 08/14/2002

While driving on a rural road, speed 45 mph, car stalled, lost brakes and steering. Pulled over, turned off key and restarted car. Car ran fine all the way to the dealership. Dealership tested "eec" system and tested "ok". Ran messages and found tech service bulletin dated 2/11/02. Reprogrammed pcm and did complete TSB. Car now runs ok. I asked them if my company should notify employees who own this vehicle and/or if Ford should be notifying the general public. They said no. 16 Ignition Module problem of the 2002 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 07/19/2002

The first incidence (may-2002), while driving approximately 40 mph the engine shut-off and the steering lock. Luckily the vehicle came to a stop at the side of the road with no injuries. The vehicle eventually restarted and was returned to the dealership. They reprogrammed the pcm and said the problem was fixed. The same thing happened about 6-weeks later along the same stretch of road, and luckily again nobody was hurt. The vehicle was again returned to the dealer. This time they said that they can't find anything wrong and gave it back to us without a fix. I am afraid that next time it happens it will be in traffic and someone will be injured or killed. This vehicle should not be on the road.

Lost all power including the steering and brakes and almost wrapped myself around a tree. Brought car to dealer and they replaced the pcm. Two days later my fiance was doing 60 mph on li expressway when again without any indication the car stalled almost causing a major accident. Called mcdaniel Ford and was told to call aaa to have car towed to dealer but they said they could not provide a loner because it wasn't figured into the cost of the car and that they have never heard of any such problems with the Escape. Called aaa three times the first call at 2 pm on 04/18/02 and they could not get a tow until 04/19/02. Contacted Ford on 04/18/02 and representative said that there were no similiar complaints and no recalls but to contact the dealer.

26 Ignition Module problem of the 2001 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 11/16/2001

Vehicle stalled wihtout warning while driving @~30mph. This has happened several other times on the road. Dealer has performed repairs 3 other times as follows: visit 1 - changed fuel pump relay, visit 2 - changed ecm module relay, visit 3 - replaced fuel pump and sender. Dealer service has indicated that they were unable to find exact cause of stalling, so they are replacing components in hopes of catching the problem. After vehicle stalled, power steering and brakes were non-functional and I once again needed to pull off the road evasively to avoid rear-ending the cars in front of me. Clarification: this most recent stalling incident occured today, even after the fuel pump was replaced.
