36 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2005 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 02/28/2014

Ford customer care case #cac-4150994-b2g8c6 & #4151017-n07b9 this was the 2nd major incident; the first occurred in 1/2009. The second major occurrence was 2/2014, when the check engine light came on and the vehicle very quickly lost all power and engine shut off, the power steering and power brakes also did not respond. The vehicle would not restart and had to be towed a Ford dealership. The dealer stated the pcm had failed causing the coils and spark plugs to also fail. The vehicle was at the dealership for 2 weeks waiting for a replacement pcm; dealer stated there was a shortage of pcm availability due to an extremely high nationwide demand for the part. Dealer replaced the pcm, as well as all coils and spark plugs in mid March 2014; the total cost of was, $2,875. 70. The pcm, coils and plugs had also been replaced in 1/2009 for the same failures. Coils and plugs were also replaced an additional 2 more times between 2009-2014. When the pcm fails, the vehicle immediately looses all power, steering and brakes, and stops dead in its tracks and cannot be restarted causing a potentially catastrophic situation. Had this failure occurred in traffic, a major collision would have been eminent and a fatality probable. When I contacted Ford on 3/19/2014, they stated they are aware of the issue and assigned 2 customer care case numbers; but they refused any reimbursement or compensation of any kind. The multiple incidents of defective pcm failures should be investigated as a potentially deadly safety issue.

38 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 04/25/2013

Starting around 6,500mi, Escape would not start without a jump start. After several days of calling tow trucks for these jumps, took it into Ford dealership. They swapped battery and said that's all it needed. After a week, Escape engine cut out at while stopped at red signal light. Engine warning lights for oil and battery came on, and nothing else. Pushed car to side of road and after waiting for tow for 20 minutes, I tried to start engine again and everything came back on as if nothing had happened. After two days of "all systems normal," I went to start the engine and it began to shake violently and a "engine malfunction-service immediately" warning came up on the dash. I tried to pull car out of parking spot and it had almost no power. Barely putted along despite my really giving it the gas. Parked and had it brought to Ford dealership again. On arrival they pulled a code p0106 off reader. It's been there for 10 days and they say they can not reproduce issue, and have made no repairs. Still waiting for news.

40 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2010 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 06/15/2012

On June 15, 2012, the 2010 Ford Escape with 29321 miles lost power (I. E. No gas, but electronics remained on) while merging onto a crowded highway at 50 mph. An accident was barely avoided. Error lights were lit on the dashboard and the car would not restart. However, upon removing the keys from the ignition and reinserting them, the error lights turned off and the car restarted without any apparent problems. The car was immediately driven to the university Ford dealership in chapel hill, nc. The service department could not detect a problem, stated that the computer was not registering any errors, and returned the car without fixing anything. On June 27, 2012, the car (29988 miles) again lost power in the middle of an intersection while making a left turn. The car had been stopped at a traffic light and was accelerating from a stopped position. Again, an accident was barely avoided. This time, the car's computer did register an error. The service department at university Ford identified a faulty throttle body sensor (part no. 9l8z9e926a) and replaced it with part no. Ds7z9e926a. The service department ensured the problem would not repeat itself. On November 24, 2012, the car (roughly 34000 miles) lost power for a third time while stopped at a traffic light. Removing the keys from the ignition and replacing them allowed the car to be restarted, and the car was promptly taken to university Ford. The service department stated that no error was registered on the computer and that the car would have to be returned. The warranty policy states that no parts can be replaced if a problem is not detected.

41 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2011 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 12/01/2011

As I was exiting a highway, my car message center alerted me to safely come to a stop. As I was attempting to get into a parking lot, the car shut off. I restarted and was able to get into parking lot on electric, I guess. It was towed to utter Ford, in sherman, TX. They ran a diagnostic and told me it had to do with the fuel pump and the electrical. They kept it overnight and said they replaced the fuel pump. I picked it up on 12/3 around 2:30pm. I got 40 miles and the car went into fail/safe mode again. I was able to make it safely to a parking lot. After the engine was turned off and then back on, the accelerator stuck. Hitting the break did not help. The car had to be turned off to keep the engine from revving. It was towed to david mcdavid Lincoln in plano, texas. The service tech said that there was nothing registering on the diagnostic. On their second test drive, the car turned off while the driver was on the highway. They had to send a tow truck to get him. The car would not restart.

44 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2001 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 06/23/2003

On two separate occasions, while driving along at approximately 40 mph, our Ford Escape suddenly lost all power and stalled. This resulted in loss of power steering and power brakes. The Ford Escape could not be restarted until it was stopped and placed in park. We have taken to hill & sanders Ford located in wheaton, MD. In addition to other service related problems with the staff of hill & sanders, we were told different stories by different people. One story was that our key ring was too heavy (4 keys 1 remote). The next was that there was a computer reprogramming that would resolve this problem (along with a developing/occasional transmission shiver/shudder between 35-45 mph). The computer reprogramming was completed 4 days ago. Since that time, the car has not stalled in a similar manner, but continues to have an occasional transmission shiver / shudder. Based on the failure of the reprogramming to fix the transmission shiver / shudder, we anticipate that the Ford Escape will continue to stall.
