1 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2018 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 01/20/2021

At the 32,000 mile routine service the rear brake rotors and pads had to be replaced for, imho, premature wear. Both rear rotors were deeply scored on their outside faces, while the outside pads were worn down their wear slots and the inside pads were hardly worn at all. The service manager said this was normal wear and tear and blamed the uneven wear on dirty pad slide pins. He couldn't account for the deep scoring. My experience over 6 decades of vehicles is that pads should last 40,000 miles and rotors 100,000 miles or more.

2 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2017 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 10/30/2018

Rear brake rotors were severely rusted after 20, 000 miles, Ford replaced the rotors under warranty, but refused to replace the worn pads. The ruff surface of the rotors caused the brake pads to wear. They should also have replaced the pads.

3 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2008 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 09/15/2018

The breaks continue to fail. Has all new pads, rotors and the master cylender replaced. When coming to a stop the breaks vibrate and then need to push the petal to the floor to be able to slowly slow down. I then need to pump visiously up to 5 times to get the breaks to temporarily work again. Was then told by my mechanic the abs is the issue. I have researched this issue with the yr of my vehicle to find that this is a serious issue with many 08 Ford Escapes and have yet to find a recal for this deady malfunction. My car only has 135000 miles and this is a safety issue that Ford needs to fix with a recall ASAP.

4 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2016 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 08/01/2018

Pre-mature wear of rear brake rotors. After 34,000 miles, squeaking brakes developed. Upon inspection, both rear brake rotors are severely scored while front rotors show no wear (smooth in appearance). Rear brake pads are still at 8mm thickness. Rear rotors will have to be replaced in near future at our expense.

5 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2016 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 07/03/2018

2016 Ford Escape 1. 6 se awd has front brake squeeling proplem once heated up and occasionally when driven for shorter times. About 3/4 around town, 1/4 highway driving. Brought in to Ford after about 1 year. They sanded the surface of the pads, rotors. Problem ceased for a little over 8 months. Problem returned and not brought in until incessant like before. This time, nothing was done. Was told with no abnormal signs, this was normal. VIN check returns no recalls.

6 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2016 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 05/31/2018

I have been advised that the rear brake rotors on my Escape are severely corroded and need replacement. The corrosion has also damaged the pads. This has lead to pulsations and uneven braking. Mileage approximately 34,000 miles when I was made aware of the problem though braking performance suffered before that. Ford has told me they are not responsible for the salty conditions in pennsylvania and do not cover corrosion. This unusual wear has created unsafe braking conditions and braking system failure which were not expected so early in the vehicle life.

7 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2014 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 05/02/2018

At around 40k miles I started to notice pulsating when I apply the brakes. More pulsating the harder brakes are applied. At slower speed, near stopping I can hear clicking souind as well in the brakes. At 45k miles the rear brakes and "warped" rotors were replaced by the dealer. The front brakes have sufficient thickness so they did not require replacement. But the front brakes continue the problem of pulsating / vibration upon applying the brakes. This is not normal and should not be happening after only 40k miles. Dealer says it is not dangerous and warped rotors should be replaced when brake pads are replaced. I should not have to put up with vibration, noise and inconvenience of this problem. I do mormal street and highway driving.

8 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2014 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 01/18/2017

My Ford had 3200 miles on the car and both back brake rotors had to be machined. I wanted new rotor and brakes on the car but hoffman Ford refused to put new rotors and brakes on the vehicle. I think the rotors are soft material and not harded enough from the factory. Remember it only had 3200 miles and this should be on a recall list for possible safety violation and extra costs to the customer. Soft rotors from the Ford motor and hoffman Ford in harrisburg PA could be a national safety problem and expensive repairs for vehicle owners. I will go to the new paper if not corrected. I want new rotors and pads on my car whilr its under bumper to bumper warranty 3 years or 36000 miles.

9 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2014 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 12/07/2016

My Ford has only 3200 miles purchased 01/28/2015. The dealer set the back brake rotors needed to machined down. I did not agree and demanded new rotors be installed due to my bumper to bumper warranty 3 years or 36,000 miles. The Ford dealer refused said this is not Ford's policy. Dealer said maybe I do not drive it enough. I said than why aren't the front rotors the same way. This Ford dealer was hoffman Ford in harrisburg PA. I went to another dealer and had a discussion about my brake rotor problem. That dealer stated that many of the parts are manufactured overseas and sometimes the rotors are not hardend enough. To satify the customer they would have put new rotors on the vehicle. My concerned is a possible recall should be made on these vehicles due to a possible safety issue I am demanding my Ford Escape have new rotors on the rear of the vehicle due to low mileage of only 3,200 miles when the car was taken into the dealership because I told them the rotors are most likely too soft and that is causing the problem. Again, they refused and machined the rotors down now I have the same problem with the rotors. I also asked them to replace the brake pads but they refused. Any vehicle repair shop knows if you machine the rotors you also need to replace the brake pads. I consider this a major safety violation and I also want to file a complaint against hoffman Ford dealership for failure to follow Fords warranty work. I believe customers all over the country are having the same issue but Ford is covering up the soft rotor problem due to cost of replacement, you can contact me at 717 4973698. The problem was hear by a passenger in the back seat as I was driving from pittsburgh PA to harrisburg PA, the vehicle was in motion.

10 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2014 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 12/05/2015

After only 22,000 miles, I had to pay for new pads and rotors on the rear brakes. The dealer repaired the brakes but refused to cover the cost under a warranty claim. The service ticket blamed the failure on a "found left rear inside pad metal to metal, found slide rusted up"!.

11 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2015 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 01/28/2015

Vehicle exhibits severe intermittent brake squeal. Three times in for service. 1st time, no problem found. Second time, with video evidence of squeal, tech diagnosed left rear brake. Deglazed and and cleaned. 3rd time, pads changed and rotors machined. No change. Squeal returned in two days. Advised by Ford this is normal, but I could take it to another dealer for service. Three times in one month.

12 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2015 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 12/26/2014

The front driver side wheel when backing squeals every tijme and every day ssince we had the car. Here it is July almost Aug. Had brought the car in to the dealer once in March and again for the same thing last week Friday. They tell me and my wife that they can not get it to do it at the dealer. My wife and I was sitting in my other Escape getting ready to leave when they backed it up and both my wife and I heard it from my car and they say they can not duplicate the problem? bold lie. They say the squeal is also normal that is another bold lie. They just do not want to replace the pads on t he car a $44 dollar item to satisfy a customer from hearing that horidous noise everyday. If it is normal then why my 2014 Escape does not do it?.

13 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2009 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 02/03/2014

2009 Ford Escape. Consumer writes in regards to transmission problems. 14 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2003 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 07/01/2011

2008 Ford recalled my 2003 Escape for abs module connector. I had it repaired. My Escape has began to "grab" when I apply brakes. New rotors & pads did not help. While online to carcomplaints. Com, I saw another recall for abs module connection for 2003 Ford Escape has been reopened. (Jan 2010) but I was not notified. I have had trouble with brakes on this vehicle for the past 4 years.

15 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2008 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 04/23/2011

My daughter (who drives the van) complained for 6 months that her abs on her breaks was causing the breaks to let go then grab even at very low speeds. I took the Escape to the dealer for additional tire problems plus an alignment, since the tires had cupped, and was told that nothing was wrong with the breaks. After continued problems I had new breaks installed at an express breaks place in south part of kansas city, KS. They also inspected the abs and found nothing wrong. But the problem continued with additional loud squealing. Finally I took it to bob allen Ford in overland park, KS. Where they charged me $652. 17 for replacing the broken rf tone ring(s), unfroze the front end alignment bars (or something like that) then put another set of brake pads on, turned the rotors then did another alignment. They said that the express brake place had failed to turn the rotors that the brand-new brakes were eaten up. The Escape has 53k miles on it but we have been having this problem for over a year. In addition, I was forced to put new tires on prior to all of this because two of the factory tires had cupped and all of them had turned to (something like) plastic causing them to skid and slide on take off and on stopping, creating a very dangerous potential for my daughter. I kept the old tires. The replaced tires are almost new with little tread wear. Note: that I tried to also add a complaint about the tires but that section demanded information that I couldn't provide therefore it simply refused the entire complaint.

16 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2003 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 03/30/2011

Front brakes and rotors shot at 50 thousand miles and were replaced, rear brakes showed very little wear, 100,000 miles and rotor and brake wear are again excessive and need replacement soon, rear brakes still ok and are the originals. The brakes on this vehicle always have seemed inadequate, as if the rear brakes do not self adjust they were checked and cleaned and determined to be working ok. I do perform the reverse and brake technique to adjust them. Bottom line "the rear brakes do not self adjust and braking is wholly on the front brakes prematurely wearing out rotors and pads!".

17 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2003 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 02/09/2005

The consumer is experiencing problems with the brakes. The brakes were completely hardened. The vehicle has been driven over mountainous terrain and the brakes burn out very quickly driving under these mountainous conditions. Owner has contacted the dealer and has had the pads and rotors replaced. Provide further details.

18 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2001 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 12/15/2004

While driving the brakes at 38000 miles were completely worn out, so were the rotors. Took the vehicle to dealer to be repaired. The consumer took the vehicle in to find out why so much black an silver dust was on the front wheels. The consumer was told that it was normal wear an tear. The consumer was told that the dust was on the front tires within 200 miles after cleaning. Front brake pads and rotors were replaced at no charge to the consumer.

19 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2003 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 11/22/2004

Ford Escape XLT 2003 rake pads worn to less than 4 mph and rotors worn to . 910 at 15,153 miles. I consider this excessive wear.

21 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2002 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 09/18/2004

Went in to a Ford dealership in garden grove, CA. I was getting a routine oil change and tire rotation. I was told I needed a complete brake overhall. I balked at the suggestion of the Ford associate. I stated "my Escape only has 23,000 miles on it and your telling me it needs new rotors, pads on the front, and shoes and drums in the rear". He looked straight at me and said yes you do. I went home took off the tire and discovered it to be true. . The brakes on my 2002 Escape are worn out after 23,000 miles. What kind of garbage is that. I'm not hard on my brakes either. If I have to replace them again at 43,000 miles I am going to be very pissed off. If it does happen. I will be trading it in, and it won't be for another Ford.

22 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2001 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 05/01/2004

The rotors on my Escape had to be replaced at 45,000 miles. There was no indication that the brakes had worn down (no squealer warning). Upon inspection it was revealed that the rotors had been worn down and had to be replaced along with new brake pads. The service manager was surprised at the rotors being in such bad shape especially since it was not due to grinding (the brake pads weren't completely worn out). He was shocked at such inferior parts being on the car. I have kept the original rotors that came on the car from Ford should anyone want pictures or want to inspect them.

23 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2002 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 11/04/2003

When the brakes were applied there was a delay before the vehicle stopped. Dealer stated that vehicle needed rotors and pads replaced.

24 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2003 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 04/17/2003

I have a 2003 Ford Escape. On April 17, 2003 I took my vehicle into the Ford dealership in vacaville with a complaint about the brakes making a grinding noise (25,503 miles). They told me that they could not duplicate the noise and checked the front brakes. They claimed to have measured the brake pads at above 5mm of pad remaining. The noise continued. I took the vehicle back to the dealership on June 27, 2003 (28,720 miles). This time they heard the noise as well as a bearing noise. They measured the brakes at 3mm and told me that the rotors may be warped. I left the vehicle for the bearing repair and received a phone message (on my answering machine) that they re-measured that brake pads and found them to be 2mm not 3mm. They didn't mention anything about the rotors. I asked about the excessive wear of the brake pads and they said that it was normal wear. They told me that they could do nothing about the pads or the rotors. I called my brother-in-law that works for Ford and told him about my experience. He made some phone calls and found out from one of Ford's engineers that they have problems with brake wear (both pads and rotors) on the Escape and the Ford focus. Today (30,270 miles) I took my Escape to midas and had a brake inspection. The midas employee said that the rotors are worn down below specs and need to be replaced. He also said that the rotors should not wear that quickly. As to the pads he said that it was normal wear because they are ceramic pads. I went to the Ford dealership in vacaville with this information. They told me that there was nothing that Ford could do for me about the brake rotors. The individual told me that Ford uses soft aluminum rotors on both the Escape and the focus and they wear out very quickly. My concern for Ford is that if they use substandard equipment and do not seem to be concerned, are they not opening themselves up to a law suit if their "soft rotors" fail and cause an accident.

25 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2001 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 03/10/2002

Brakes wore down past to the rotors. Safety issue:there are no low pad wear (squealer) indicators on the brakes. Rotors had to be replaced. There was no audible sign of pad wear unless inspected visually. If I had driven the car any longer the heat from metal on metal would have blown the front tires.

26 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2003 Ford Escape

There was a groaning noise coming from the brakes, when the vehicle was at a complete stop but idling. There was also a burning smell coming from the air vents. Upon inspection of the vehicle by the dealership the steering pump and pressure line had ruptured. The dealership indicated it was caused by the power steering fluid being contaminated.
