9 Brakes Failed problem of the 2010 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 02/27/2020

We've had the brakes fail once before and once again today. We hit the brakes on thhe interstate and afterwards, the brake pedal goes all the way to the floor. The last time, we took it to a service station and they couldnt' find anything wrong. It happened again this morning on the interstate. I believe it's related to fsa 19s54 recall and that Ford Escapes should be evaluated to be included in the recall.

10 Brakes Failed problem of the 2015 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 12/27/2019

While traveling on the interstate in our 2015 Ford Escape titanium, we began to exit and found we had no brakes. We had to utilize the parking brake in order to bring the car to a stop. We took the car to a Ford dealership for repairs. They determined that the brake power assist had failed because the vacuum pump locked up causing the cam drive to break inside the cam shaft. This also caused metal shaving contamination in the engine of the car which can cause the motor to lock up at any time without warning. Our research revealed that a recall was issued for this exact problem in the 2013 Ford Escape; however, there has been no recall issued for the 2015 Ford Escape. This is clearly a design flaw/faulty parts issue that still has not been corrected. We have contacted the manufacturer to see if they would do anything; but they refused and also refused to let us speak to someone else regarding this. So, we are stuck with a $2,200 car repair bill on a 4 1/2 year old vehicle with 74,000 miles that Ford knows is an issue but refuses to do anything about. This doesn't include possibly a new motor if it locks up due to the metal shaving contamination. The brakes failing unexpectedly was a safety hazard and now we have another potential safety hazard if the motor locks up while we are driving the vehicle.

12 Brakes Failed problem of the 2014 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 08/13/2019

Vacuum pump failed on the engine causing the brakes booster to fail instantly. Lost all brake assist and had to use both feet with all the pressure I could muster to safely stop the vehicle. Vehicle is out of warranty for attaching parts, searched for parts. Parts required are vacuum pump and pump drive coupling, coupler was sheered off causing damage to camshaft internally. Searched for parts call 5 dealers nationwide and they are out of stock, searched all over the internet. No parts available in the world. Local Ford dealer has 4 cars in shop waiting on pumps, parts won't arrive for 30 days. Called another dealer in the midwest that showed parts availability(6) all those pumps are for on-going repairs in shop and none of them are for sale. This pump failure is deadly, dangerous and not being address by the manufacturer. Plus even to repair within 30 to 45 days I had to use a salvage part (I may have bought the only one in the nation) called 12 salvage yards and they are out of stock as well. You can be driving along and then bam. Your brake assist boost will be gone and you do not know it. Luckily I was able to get the vehicle safely stopped. Part number is bb5z-2a451-c and other similar Ford vehicles and experiencing this issue with the 2. 0l engine. Thank you.

14 Brakes Failed problem of the 2011 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 05/23/2019

The problem is brake loss in reverse. It happens intermittently sometimes once a month or maybe 6 months with no problem but scary when backing out and cannot stop immediately. The pedal will be rock hard when this happens and after a couple of seconds will depress and brakes back to normal. If in a tight spot or pedestrian walks behind there could be bad consequences and good luck proving it in court that the brakes failed. Summer or winter doesnt matter. I have brought it to dealership and complained on another forum but dealer cannot find problem as it is so intermittent. It seems like a valve in the system sticks. I had it happen to me several times but my wife didnt believe me. Well it happened to her last week and she was scared. This has been going on for years without resolution and if nothing else will put this concern on the record or hopefully Ford takes this more seriously. I will be contacting dealer again as this must be fixed once and for all. Any ideas welcome.

15 Brakes Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 03/16/2019

On a long road trip with family and feel very fortunate this occurred when it did instead of two hours earlier when navigating atlanta traffic as this would have most certainly led to a serious accident. We were driving to coastal georgia and had about 200 miles left to our journey. Not knowing area we pulled off to get gas to make sure we had enough to reach our destination. At bottom of exit ramp car would not stop. Pressed harder and harder on brakes and eventually stopped. Had this been a busy spot would have been disaster as we coasted through the stop sign and into the road before coming to a stop. It was 11 o'clock at night in in unfamiliar surroundings so I drove rest of the way using ebrake, nerve racking to say the least. No warning just sudden brake failure. When mechanic looked at it said vacuum pump failed. Still waiting to hear if they can fix it, some gear that turned it sheared off into cam. They are going to try to fish it out but, not sure if they'll be able to. Gladi was driving and it didn't happen in different situation where brakes were critical! bad situation!.

26 Brakes Failed problem of the 2002 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 11/26/2013

On Nov 26 I was driving to my work at 45 miles per hour and the distance I kept from the car in front of me was sufficient to allow me stopping adequately. Suddenly, I noticed that traffic was approaching to a red light so I tap on the brakes to slow down and stop. However, the brakes were not reducing the speed so immediately I stamped on the brake pedal to let the car stop while simultaneously, I looked to realize that I could not change lanes. At this point I was left with no time to gear down the transmission or to pull the emergency brake. Consequently, my Ford Escape was forced to stop by crashing into the car in front of me and producing a domino effect involving a third vehicle in front of us. Fortunately, no personal injuries were reported from the other two drivers whose cars were involved. . I did suffered slight neck pain and after visiting the hospital I did not had major injuries or nothing to worry about so far. In regards to personal property damages, the two cars in front of mine, had minimal damages but, mine was severely damaged to the point is totally inoperable. All claims were reported and taken care by geico, my insurance company. Also a traffic crash car report was filed. I received a driving traffic citation from the police, which I plan to escalate to the courthouse, after knowing that the brake failure I experienced resulted from manufacturer's defects reported by Ford under recalls 11s24 and 12 s37. * please note that this writing is only for information purposes and to alert any other drivers to perform on-time maintenance check-ups to prevent similar or worst scenarios.

28 Brakes Failed problem of the 2005 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 07/27/2012

Had light warning of brake failure. Investigation discovered broken ring with teeth on front axle that senses wheel rotation. Part is called "tone ring" Ford part #7l8z-2c182-b. This causes a failure of the abs and traction control system. Internet search showed this as a very common problem with all year Ford Escapes and is a very bad design. This $32 part causes a $300 parts and labor cost since recommended fix is to replace a perfectly good axle. It appears to be caused by expansion and contraction of the ring and rust between the axle and the pressed on ring.

I purchased a 2006 Escape hybrid on April 9th & immediately it had brake failure problems - essentially no brakes. It has been at dealership since April 10th. They claimed it was fixed on April 22 & when I went to get it, same problem happened in test drive. They have no idea what else is wrong. They replaced the brake sensor, but obviously that didn't resolve the problem. This is a major safety issue especially in south florida, where the ability to properly brake is highly essential.

34 Brakes Failed problem of the 2002 Ford Escape

When I test drove the 2002 Ford Escape on Saturday, April 20, 2002, the brakes were spongy but I was told that new brakes have to "wear in" before they get solid. I bought the vehicle. The brakes seemed to get more spongy after we had driven it home, so I called northstar Ford on Monday, April 22, to have them check the brakes and correct a vibration on Tuesday morning at 8:00. At that appointment they worked on correcting the vibration but they didn't do anything about the brakes. That afternoon when I drove the Escape downtown duluth, when I stopped at a red light on a hill, I noticed that with moderate pressure I could push the brake pedal nearly to the floor. I made another appointment for Thursday, April 25, to have them wash off some tire dressing that had spattered on the vehicle. When I asked them to check the brakes, they said the brakes were normal and they wouldn't do anything about the brakes. So I gave them a paper to sign that states "the brakes on our Ford Escape are functioning normally even though they are very 'spongy. ' furthermore, when moderate pressure is applied to the brake pedal, the pedal goes nearly to the floor. This type of brake response is not considered a safety hazard. " the service people at northstar told me the brakes were normal, but they wouldn't sign the paper. I'm really worried that if I ever have to make a panic stop the brakes are going to fail. I don't trust a brake pedal that goes nearly to the floor. When it became clear that they were not going to do anything about the brakes, I tried to get my trade in back and leave the Escape at the dealership, but they wouldn't let me out of the contract. Please check into this to see if these brakes are indeed normal.
