1 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2017 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 09/02/2020

I had a check engine light while driving and engine miss firing. The car is out of warranty with 57k miles. I took it to flammer Ford in spring hill FL. To diagnose the problem. I was told that there was an oil leak from the turbo that got into the harness. The repair cost would be $2,700 and the harness was on back order and it would take about 1 month to obtain the part and repair. For a simple $30 part (the turbo sensor), the repair cost is $2,700. 00 and out of service for 1 month! why is this part backordered? I believe this is a common and known failure by Ford. This car needs to be recalled and the turbo sensor part replaced. I need to be compensated for the whole repair bill due to the defective part.

The turbocharger oil supply lines may not be brazed properly, resulting in an engine oil leak. Oil supply lines to the turbocharger in the engine compartment may leak engine oil. This could allow oil to leak onto hot engine components, creating a fire hazard. Our recent oil change, not at Ford, indicated that the mechanic identified an oil leak that is coming from the turbo line.

20 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2017 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 08/12/2017

My check engine light came on at 5:30 pm on 8/11 and, when I got home, my husband saw that the car had been leaking oil and I was low on oil despite the fact that I had an oil change one month prior. While I was driving to the dealership at 10:45 am on 8/12, the car was not accelerating normally and the mpg readings were all over the place. As I was getting off the highway, the car began to lose its ability to accelerate well, the steering wheel began to shake and eventually the car lost the ability to accelerate completely. I was driving through a toll booth at the time the car lost the ability to accelerate so I coasted through and saw a parking lot for toll booth operators. As I was trying to make my way to that parking lot, smoke began to fill the car through the vents. I coasted into the parking lot and shut off the vehicle. I turned off the vehicle and ran out at which point I noticed that there was a fire under the hood of the vehicle and flames were escaping through the grill, under the hood and out the bottom. The state police arrived immediately thereafter and used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames. No warning notice came across the dashboard until the car lost acceleration ability completely at which point the screen said to shift to "p" and manually restart. At that point, however, the car was filling with smoke so I immediately vacated, shut off the vehicle and ran away from the vehicle. I do not know what caused the problem. I have filed an insurance claim and am awaiting contact.

On each cold start, in park, heavy puff of blue smoke emits from exhaust. Vehicle has 66,000 miles on it and has been regularly and professionally maintained. Dealer service adviser states internal oil leak onto engine head, likely requiring engine replacement. I would like NHTSA to investigate to expand models within current campaign number 17v209000 and/or research additional issue with leaks in certain Ford engines. I have not received notice from Ford motor company that my vehicle was included in campaign number 17v209000, and a VIN search on the NHTSA site confirmed that the vehicle was not subject to such recall; however, I believe it is likely that my vehicle is in the same danger as those listed in the above-referenced NHTSA recall either for the reasons stated in the recall or additional reasons. No my car is in a shop with diagnosis that the engine is burned out and needs to be replaced. $4500 for a used engine replacement. I was driving on a highway with a car filled with children and with no indication lights coming on the motor completely died while I was moving 65 mph. I was very fortunate to pull over to the side of the road without a crash. The indication lights only came on as the motor was dying. 33 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 05/11/2013

Purchased the vehicle new on may 7, drove 10 miles and parked the vehicle in my garage. On may 11, I noted a substantial amount of engine oil under the car. The vehicle was towed to the service department and the following was noted: oil leak diagnosis timing peg plug missing from right side of engine block. The right half axle shaft and bearing bracket were removed, the plug hole was cleaned and threads tapped using m10 x 1. 5 tap. Installed new timing plug tightened to spec. New oil and filter installed. The origin of th leak could not be seen by owner visual inspection. Either the plug was not installed at the factory or it was not tightened and fell out. Either way, had it not been noticed the engine oil would have been totally lost increasing the likelihood of engine damage. Further oil covered the under carriage of the vehicle and could have gotten on to brakes compromising safety. Not sure if there was potential for engine fire.
