5 Suspension Noise problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 07/15/2018

When I first purchased the Escape the trunk handle fell off into my hand, it was replaced. The passenger door opener handle apparently is wrappend in silver plastic, that cut a passenger, I have spent years asking them to replace it, they finally did last month, of course now out of warranty so I had to pay for it. I have had a recurring issue with my rear passenger door interior panel separating from the metal exterior panel, rendering the door useless. My 7 year old daughter cannot get into or out of the vehicle on her side. The clips have been replaced 3 times at the dealership and they are suggesting replacing the interior because it is "warped" how does a garaged vehicle's interior become "warped" to an extent where the clips cannot hold the part in place and repeatedly snap? the clips are plastic and similar to the interior of this model plastic is wearable, and Ford should be replacing this item, not me. I had a 2001 explorer for 14 years that I never had issues with, primarily because it wasn't constructed with plastic. This is a serious saftey issue and my child should not be trapped in a vehicle. I have also had a recurring issue with the front suspension, the shocks were replaced and the matter has gotten worse. This issue took place after the tire was replaced becuase of a nail puncture. I am responding to the dealership today 10/16/2018 to see what they are going to do about this problem, that I did not create and have atempted to have repaired since July 2018. When the car is in motion the passenger side simply seems as if it going to fall off, a loud clanking sound and the stability is then off after the vehicle goes over anything, man hole overs small fissures in the ground or large bumps. This can't be safe and it needs to be fixed.

Suspensions on back wheels makes a tapping sound and affects the springs of the balance of the SUV, causing the tires to to wear out or down inconsistently. Possibly causing tires or steering wheel to cause accident.

7 Suspension Noise problem of the 2002 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 04/09/2018

The contact owns a 2002 Ford Escape. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic to be serviced. While the mechanic was test driving the vehicle at approximately 35 mph, an abnormal noise was heard coming from the front of the vehicle. The contact stated that the front passenger side lower control arm fractured, which caused the wheel to separate from the suspension. Prior to the test drive, the contact was informed by the mechanic of severe rust on the lower control arm. The vehicle was towed back to the facility. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer (elkhorn motors Ford, 910 n wisconsin st, elkhorn, WI 53121, (262) 723-2131) was contacted and a subsequent VIN search showed that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v165000 (structure). 10 Suspension Noise problem of the 2010 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 06/13/2017

Clunky front suspension. Extreme noise from the front end, and suspension, while driving. Wondering if something will come loose, or disengage the steering. Happens while driving.

11 Suspension Noise problem of the 2005 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 07/01/2016

Vehicle suddenly started making a banging sound so I took vehicle into our mechanic. Apparently the passenger side suspension was not properly sealed and the sheet metal in the wheel well has deteriorated to the point in which the shock tower has disconnected from the vehicle frame. I was refereed to a auto welding shop by my mechanic and was surprised to see that there were two of the same vehicles at the facility having the exact same problem resolved. The mechanic at this welding shop says that he is repairing personally 3 Ford Escapes per week for the exact issue and he was able to show me the two that he had just repaired over the past two days. I am now more shocked to see that there are over 500 complaints with this exact same complaint just at this NHTSA. Gov sight and that there are literally thousands of other identical complaints posted on the internet. This is an extremely unsafe safety issue. The fact is that the loud banging noise is enough to cause most owners to pause and to look into the matter and thus typically this issue does not result in an accident. However, safety issues and recalls should not only involve accidents or casualties. This is a very real problem impacting every single 2005 Ford Escape and costing consumers hundreds and thousands in repairs that Ford refuses to acknowledge.

12 Suspension Noise problem of the 2015 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 03/01/2016

At 32,000 miles suspension was making load knocks while driving at low speeds. At highway speeds noises supressed by road noise, but still present. Dealer inspection found front stabilizer loose, stablizer link bars both front and rear loose with defective rubber bushings on some points. All repaired. At 42,000 miles noises have returned and same conditions are present.

13 Suspension Noise problem of the 2009 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 11/23/2015

My 2009 Ford Escape has difficulty getting enough momentum to accelerate on the highway, this is a daily struggle. Yesterday I was trying to pass an 18-wheeler as it was drifting into my lane; as I eagerly pressed on the gas my car jumped and continued to coast at the same speed. Earlier this month, I had to decelerate from 40 mph to a fairly abrupt stop and my car was unable to. I just had my brake pads replaced so I knew that wasn't the problem, my car jolted a total of 7 times before coming to a complete stop. I almost crashed into the car in front of me. Every time I drive my car it sounds like its going to fall apart, the rattling coming from the suspension is constant. I get my Ford Escape checked up every month, because of all the problems I have. This car is a hazard to my safety, and I do not feel comfortable driving in this rolling plastic death trap. It's infuriating that the government claims a defective electronic throttle body to be not harmful enough to have a recall. I could have died from in both instances which I specified in this complaint, something needs to be done about this.

14 Suspension Noise problem of the 2002 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 10/12/2015

I was making a ride an maple road when all of a sudden I hear a sort of popping noise almost like a flat tire. Thats what I thought it was so I kept drive to where I live. On the way home all I heard was a screeching. When I got home home I check and the suspension had snapped because of rusting.

16 Suspension Noise problem of the 2009 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

Tl- the contact owns a 2009 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the front brakes had exhibited an abnormal noise, the brake pedal failed to engage and disengage as the failure was progressing and the steering wheel was also making an abnormal noise. The vehicle was taken to several independent mechanics who had been unable to determine a permanent remedy to repair the vehicle. 1 of the independent mechanics bled the brake master cylinder each of the 3 times it had been replaced but the failure continued with the front brakes. The contact exhibited the same symptoms as the recall but was excluded from NHTSA campaign number: 15e045000 (suspension) according to the dealer tuscaloosa Ford, 5801 mcfarland blvd e, tuscaloosa, al 35405, (205) 304-0719 who was notified of the faiure. The dealer has not yet determined if the failure was releated to the recall campaign until further testing and diagnosis was provided. The manufacturer was notified of the failure to determine if they may be able to provide a permanent remedy to repair the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired yet. The approximate failure mileage was not available. Dyd.

17 Suspension Noise problem of the 2005 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 08/10/2015

When traveling at 40mph, a thumping noise could be heard in the rear of 2005 Ford Escape. Upon visual inspection, the passenger side rear wheel well was completely corroded, exposing the interior of the car. The mount of the shock suspension is corroded so badly that the shock is nowhere attached to the body and is what causes the thumping sound as it pushes up into the car interior. No other wheel wells on the car have anywhere near that level of corrosion.

18 Suspension Noise problem of the 2005 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 07/21/2015

While driving my 2005 Ford Escape hybrid I heard a dragging sound in the right rear of the vehicle. I stopped the vehicle to discover a piece of the inner wheelhouse suspension mount had separated and was rubbing on the right rear tire. This is a corrosion problem that has been reported many times to NHTSA and no enforcement action to date has been made to have Ford recall these unsafe vehicles for corrective action. I guess someone will have to die when the right rear suspension separates from the vehicle before NHTSA decides to act.

19 Suspension Noise problem of the 2006 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 02/13/2015

When driving I started noticing a loud banging sound starting when driving over small bumps in the road. In taking the vehicle to the local Ford dealer repair shop for an oil change we had them check out the sound that I heard. They pointed out the right, passenger side rear wheel well. At this time we were told the repair was not an immediate repair that was needed but would need to be repaired. We planned to wait until the local roads were repaired from the pot holes developed through winter. A month and a half later, on March 20, 2015 the sound had become extremely worse and I feared for my safety. We took it to a repair shop and they stated the vehicle was no longer safe to drive. The right side rear wheel well had rusted through and the suspension is barely attached to the vehicle. In researching online this is a prevalent problem through several year models not just the 2005. When I called the Ford customer service hotline I was told Ford was unaware and that they did not know this was a safety problem despite the numerous listings of people online saying they have reported the same kind of issues.

20 Suspension Noise problem of the 2004 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 11/01/2014

A few weeks ago I was driving slowly down a dirt road and I started to hear a bumping noise towards the back of my car, only when I when over bumps. I figured it was just gear in my trunk making the noise and I was going to take a look at it later, but it didn't seem like anything to be concerned about. Yesterday I finally got all my ignition coils fixed after some trouble with the mechanics doing it wrong originally. When I left he told me I may have a suspension problem, but that it is not likely to be a problem aside from the annoyingness of it. When I got home I decided to have a look around my car and after discovering that it did not have to do with my trunk I looked under the wheel well and saw that the suspension mount had completely rusted off and had bouncing around as I drove. It was completely detached, and after goodling this I saw that many other people have this same exact problem and that it is very unsafe, and most likely to expensive to fix. I had been driving with this serious problem for a few weeks with no idea of the danger that it could cause. There is no recall on it but I feel that with the amount of people with this problem and the severity of it, Ford needs to do something about this.

21 Suspension Noise problem of the 2004 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 10/21/2014

We recently took our 2004 Ford Escape to get it looked at because every time we hit a bump there was a loud thud sound in the back right. We found out that the rear right wheel well of our 2004 Ford Escape is completely rusted out. The corrosion has caused a major suspension problem and it's been deemed undrivable. What's worse is that no mechanic or body shop will attempt to fix the issue because it would be considered a liability issue if anything were to happen they would be at fault. The rest of the vehicle is in perfect condition, but because of one awful defect all we can do is sell it for parts.

22 Suspension Noise problem of the 2004 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 09/06/2014

While driving heard a loud clunking noise coming from the passenger side rear wheel well. Arrived home to inspect the area of concern. Found that the passenger side rear shock mount had completely separated from the wheel well due to extensive rusting. This allowed the shock to travel upward striking the plastic interior trim panel. This vehicle was garage kept until two years ago. It also passed state inspection requirements nine months ago. I am not a mechanical engineer. However, I do not believe a critical suspension component should be attached to sheet metal that is prone to rust. I have taken the time and made the effort to inspect several other vehicle manufacturers and find that their suspension system is connected to a solid component of the frame. Obviously this is an engineered design flaw of a critical safety component that possibly could result in unsafe handling at highway speed. With only one rear shock attached to the vehicle an uncontrollable rear sway could occur resulting in a possible roll over. Given the number of reported complaints of the same nature, which given known statics is a small percentage of actual cases, I do request a recall to be made.

23 Suspension Noise problem of the 2004 Ford Escape

26 Suspension Noise problem of the 2005 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 05/21/2014

Noticed clanking noise coming from passenger side rear. Thought strut mount was failing. Removed inside panel to reveal wheel well seriously rusted out. Was informed by mechanic that this could lead to suspension failure. Checked online and found significant number of like vehicles affected by the same problem. Will probably cost $1500 to repair. Noticed Ford used what look like several thin layers of metal sandwiched together and that the rusting began from within.

27 Suspension Noise problem of the 2003 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 04/09/2014

Tl- the contact owns a 2003 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign id number: 14v165000 (suspension-lower control arm regional) and taken to the dealer for repairs. The dealer confirmed there were rust holes on the surface of the frame and made an interim repair which included attaching a cross member and support bar to the subframe(?). The contact stated that shortly after the recall repairs, the vehicle would exhibit an abnormal popping noise from the front end. The contact was traveling approximately 25 mph and attempting to complete a turn when a loud, popping sound was heard. The lower control arm had become detached from the subframe on the front passengers side. The vehicle began to shake violently and the contact was not able to control the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who diagnosed that the entire subframe needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure multiple times. The approximate failure mileage was 121,716. Dyd.

28 Suspension Noise problem of the 2005 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 02/20/2014

On 2/20/14 I was traveling 65 mph on state route 219 in boston, NY, when a loud banging noise suddenly began to occur in the rear of my vehicle. This noise scared me and forced me to pull over on the shoulder of the expressway to inspect the rear area of my vehicle (while traffic continued at 65 mph). I could not see anything at that time so I slowly and cautiously drove my vehicle home. Upon further inspection, my husband found that the right rear(passenger) side rear shock had become totally detached from the completely rusted out inner wheel well and was protruding into the inside of my vehicle. Excessive rust could be seen along with several holes that had once been part of the wheel well. My vehicle is unable to be driven and is too costly to fix. After doing some research, I found that I am not the only owner of 2005 Ford Escape with this issue. This needs to be a recall! fortunately, this defect did not cause a serious accident because this is an integral component of my vehicles suspension. This 'defect' needs to be rectified before someone dies or becomes seriously injured.

29 Suspension Noise problem of the 2002 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 10/22/2013

Clicking noise while making a right hand turn. Steering wheel no longer in the straight up position when vehicle is traveling in a straight line. Approximately turned 20-25 degrees clockwise. Inspection of the front end revealed that the front suspension crossmember has rusted through at the passenger side lower control arm front mount area.

30 Suspension Noise problem of the 2002 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 10/14/2013

I was driving my 2002 Ford Escape at 25 mph on a suburban side street. Suddenly there was a loud clunk sound on the right front of the car with the front dropping and the car grinding to a stop. Inspection revealed the right front wheel was basically broken off with that side of the car sitting on the ground. Further inspection revealed that the lower front suspension a-frame pulled loose from the engine cradle due to rust on the crossmember.

31 Suspension Noise problem of the 2005 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 10/04/2013

Thumping sound from right rear of cargo deck. Upon interior inspection, no loose items in cargo area, no loose panels, and jack was not loose. Upon exterior inspection noticed rusted out portion of wheel well. Can see into interior (back of interior panel, carpeting, etc. ). Seems that thumping is due to wheel or suspension parts being improperly supported due to corrosion of/in area of wheel well. Specifically, shock and/or large coil spring are hitting interior panel(s) of vehicle.

32 Suspension Noise problem of the 2014 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 09/25/2013

Picked up my brand new car, Ford Escape s 2014, and had the ac system running, when I turned the ac of a strange noise was audible from the rear end of the car. I took the car back to the dealership and was told it would be an easy fix. Apparently two screws had to be tightened at the shock and suspension. After leaving the dealership with the ¿fixed car it took about 10 min to hear the noise again. There is obviously a problem. I will take the care back again to see what the next step is. Very disappointed¦.

33 Suspension Noise problem of the 2005 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 03/09/2013

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the rear passenger side wheel well was completely rusted. The contact stated that there was a hole in the wheel well. In addition, whenever the contact traveled over a road bump, there was a loud bang from the rear of the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and the vehicle was determined to be unfit to drive. The contact spoke with the manufacturer and was told that the dealer deemed the vehicle unfit to drive because the strut and wheel well were detached from the vehicle. The dealer stated that it was only a matter of time before the rear passenger side wheel would detach from the vehicle. The current mileage was 97,000. Kmj the consumer stated while driving, he hit a large pot hole, and then he heard a huge bang from the rear of the vehicle. He thought nothing of it, so as he continued to drive, the noise became worse. When he arrived home, he opened the compartment and found the inside was damp with water. Upon further inspection, he noticed he could see through the inside of the vehicle into the street through a newly formed hole in the passenger rear wheel well. The crack started at the rear of the tire well to about the middle of the tire. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but Ford didn't want to claim any responsibility. The rust was in an area that nobody noticed, as it was behind the sealer that was out in the tire wells of vehicles in the northcast. Ford inspected the vehicle, and informed the consumer, it was not safe to drive, as the suspension was compromised. The strut was very loose and he witnessed the crack get even bigger, as he tried to drive it back from the dealer. Also, the consumer had problems with the reverse lights flickering on and off. When he took the vehicle to the dealer, he was informed a new switch was needed. He declined the replacement. The consumer believed that may have been a symptom of the rust and the wires getting wet.
