36 Body problem of the 2017 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 01/01/2021

The rocker panels have rusted completely out. I've found information online where people have brought it to Ford dealerships attention to be told Ford knows water leaks into the rocker panels and sits and rots out. My kids have all caught their ankles and cut them horribly. Our back up camera only works once in a great while.

37 Body problem of the 2014 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 11/29/2020

On Sunday November 29, 2020, the vehicle was driven back from church, approximately 10 miles. It was parked on a gravel drive way, in park, and the key removed. The vehicle was exited at approximately 12:35pm. At 2:46pm it was noticed that the vehicle was up against a towable man-lift with the tongue of it inside the front grill of the vehicle. The keys were retrieved from the home's dining room table a short time later and the vehicle was moved off of the man-lift and the parking brake was set to assure that it did not roll again. It was noted that the vehicle was locked, in park, and everything appeared normal. At this point it was realized that a ring camera was observing the area. The video was retrieved to see exactly what happened. The video shows that at 12:41pm, six minutes after parking the vehicle, it began rolling unattended, and came to reset against the man-lift. Shortly thereafter all attempts were made to duplicate the issue by attempting to remove the keys without the vehicle being in park, etc. The incident could not be recreated. The vehicle was taken to reynolds Ford okc the next morning. The video of the event has been provided to reynolds Ford okc. I have worked with the servicing dealer to notify Ford corp. Of this event. Their counsel has advised me that they have no responsibility in the event. I beg to disagree. No vehicle should ever roll when in park, the keys removed and the doors locked. I have a ring camera video of the event that was shared with reynolds Ford and Ford corp. I will be happy to share it with you but your documentation format will not accept videos.

38 Body problem of the 2018 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 10/01/2020

This is our second winter with this vehicle and both seasons during winter temperatures the right rear door will not latch to stay shut. We have small children that ride in the rear of this vehicle, so this makes this much more of a concern. My husband is a mechanic and tries everything to make it work and it has been a huge hassle. Especially for such a new, expensive vehicle. The vehicle is stationary when this happens as we are unable to go anywhere with a door that will not shut!.

39 Body problem of the 2011 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/09/2020

Drivers retractable running board malfunctions going up and extending. The running board has stopped midway during extension and have caused occupants to fall due to the running board suddenly collapsing to normal height with weight of the occupant on the running board. Retraction of the running boards is rough and may take several attempts to retract. The vehicle is well maintained by the dealership. There are no lubrication points to enable maintenance of the running boards. At this time the running boards are turned off and are in the retracted position. This happens when the vehicle is stationary on a street or parking lot and the driver and left passenger doors are opened/closed for entering or exiting the vehicle. This only happens to driver side running board. This problem has been on-going for the past year. The dealership has used a spray lubricant on the hinges of the running board but it is a short term fix for a long term issue. There has been no damage to the running boards, no adjustment to the running board motor or mechanism. The running board motor appears to over or under travel and does not move the running board to the correct location in the movement cycle.

40 Body problem of the 2019 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/01/2020

I am writing to urgently request the initiation of a safety investigation concerning a serious and potentially widespread defect in Ford vehicles, specifically related to the center console’s metal chrome trim on limited models. I own a Ford Expedition, purchased in October 2019, and have encountered a severe issue where the chrome plating on the center console has begun peeling away, forming sharp, dangerous shards that have already caused significant injury to myself and my children. Despite numerous attempts to resolve this issue through Ford’s customer service since first discovering the defect in 2020, the response has been dismissive, labeling the condition as "normal wear and tear. " this is despite the fact that the sharp edges of the peeling chrome required medical attention on multiple occasions. The severity of this defect goes far beyond cosmetic degradation and enters the realm of serious safety hazard. Furthermore, this issue does not appear to be isolated. An examination of online consumer forums and resale platforms such as ebay reveals similar complaints from other Ford owners who note identical peeling issues in the same model and in analogous locations on the console. Historical precedence shows that similar defects in past models, like the Ford explorer, have led to recalls. It is alarming that Ford has not only failed to recognize the defect as a legitimate safety concern but has also continued to sidestep responsibility even after the original factory warranty expired. This lack of accountability for a defect that directly impacts the physical safety of passengers and drivers is unacceptable. Given the potential risk to consumers and the apparent recurrence of this issue across multiple vehicles, I implore the NHTSA to initiate a thorough investigation into this matter. It is imperative that a recall be considered to prevent further injuries and ensure that Ford addresses this serious safety flaw promptly and effectively.

42 Body problem of the 2018 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 03/19/2020

The retractable/automatic running board on the passenger side intermittently drops down when the car is in park and in a stationary position for a period of time. (ie. 2-3 hours at rest) when I restart the vehicle and open/close the doors, then shut off the vehicle, the retractable running boards will go back up where they belong. . . Most of the time. Several days later, the same thing happens again. I took the vehicle in for service (cronin Ford - harrison, ohio) in the fall of 2019 and they replaced the retractable running board motor on the passenger side only. In March of 2020, it started to happen again, after the vehicle is at rest for 2-3 hours. I am planning to take it in for service again, but I'm concerned that this will become a recurring problem well after the warranty period is over.

Rear fixed vista roof panel exploded outward with a very loud - shotgun like - bang, leaving a large hole and a very dangerous shattered remaining panel that could fall and injure occupants, the panel is made of toughened glass as opposed to being laminated as the front windshield is. The incident occurred on a fairly quiet freeway, no cars in front and not under a bridge etc.

In colder temperatures, the entire interior door mechanisms freeze up and do not allow the passengers to exit or enter the vehicle. Major safety issue! there have been several times that I have had to crawl to the back seat to get out of my vehicle. What is going to happen in an emergency situation?.

47 Body problem of the 2018 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 12/02/2019

The rear window defrost connectors detached from the rear window, which means the rear window defrost does not work at all. On two separate occasions, the rear window defrost solder has detached. The first time was the driver side. I took it in, and our local dealership fixed it with a glue-on repair kit. The second time it was the passenger side. It is currently in warranty jail again at our local dealership so they can attempt to fix it.

51 Body problem of the 2011 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 03/01/2019

Winter 2019, passenger side door would not stay closed. Appears to only happen when temperatures are below freezing. Started to happen on drivers side a day later. I've noticed water inside on the sill plate of the vehicle after it rains. I suspect water is making it's way into the door. The issue has returned. Tried to get warranty repairs from original dealership but has gone unanswered. Appears this is a know issue and repairs are covered by an extended warranty. Which I did not get. Working with bbb and Ford corporate on that issue. The passenger door was not fixed either.

52 Body problem of the 2014 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 02/25/2019

The drivers side door will not always close and secure. The door latch sometimes stays in the open or closed position. The vehicle was stationary. Unsafe as you would have to drive with the door unsecured. Also the shifting lever will occasionally stick in park and will not come out even after applying the brake. Unsafe if you have to stop and put in park on side of road or highway you can't take it out of park when clear to do so. Dealer said they can not repair because they can not duplicate issue. The only way to put the vehicle in motion was to drive with drivers door not secured.

53 Body problem of the 2017 Ford Expedition

My husband had a car accident on 2/22/2019 with a Dodge tam. The ram hit my husbands Expedition and non of the airbags deployed. My husband estimates the other driver was going about 40 mph. The other driver smashed into my husband as he was idle waiting to turn. My kids are hurt and my husband is hurt as well. The airbags did not deploy at all!.

Ford recall on explorer model regarding the vehicle not recognizing that the shift gear is in the parking setting, therefore the key is unable to be removed. . . Also rendering the vehicle unsafe considering that since parking isn't enabled the vehicle may roll resulting in injury or death. I would also like to add to the records that this is the third time I've experienced this malfunction in 3 different model years including 2012 and 2008. I would also like to report that the automatic running boards have become dis engaged in the motor and only work randomly which is also dangerous when entering vehicle.

60 Body problem of the 2016 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 01/01/2018

Bought the 2016 vehicle January 2017. Shortly after purchase I noticed slight bubbling in the paint on the edges of the hood and especially the bottom of the lift gate. It has progressed over the years and now the paint is coming off- a large piece off the front hood and all along the bottom of the lift gate. Ford has no recalls on it yet, but it's a well cared for vehicle, garaged at night and when not in use during the day. The paint should not be bubbling or coming off. Thank you- suzanne.

63 Body problem of the 2005 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 10/21/2017

Aluminum body panels are corroding underneath the paint, causing bubbling, flaking, and chipping of the paint. This is not caused naturally, this is a failure on the part of Ford and their quality control. The aluminum underneath was contaminated from the factory with iron causing corrosion. While knowing about this problem, they failed to issue a recall.

69 Body problem of the 2012 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 05/15/2017

I was involved in a traffic collision today, may 15, 2015, going southbound the speed of 45mph on a city street in rancho cucamonga CA. Another car going westbound didn't wait at stop sign, went through the intersection, I slammed on the brakes and turned wheel to the right to avoid hitting her but we collided, I was spun around, she ended up in the front yard the house on the corner. The front of my vehicle hit the front fender and front door of the passenger side of her vehicle. Only 1 airbag deployed in my vehicle, the passenger side, with no passenger sitting there. My vehicle has several other airbags that did not deploy, even though the whole front end was smashed. Also, the one airbag that did deploy caught on fire, and filled the interior of the truck with a burning white smoke, not powder. It was a very strong burning smell that I inhaled a lot of. Not sure why only the one airbag deployed and all the others didn't??? please help me in getting to the bottom of this. Should other vehicles like mine be recalled? I have to say, although I was not severely injured, it would have been way better if my safety restraint system would have worked the way it was intended. Have there been other instances like mine? what should Ford motor company do for me? what do I do next? please help me. Thank you, [xxx] ## VIN passed ## Ford, Expedition, 2012 ## information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

70 Body problem of the 2015 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 02/03/2017

2015 Ford Expedition with 20,000 miles has galvanic corrosion on aluminum hood and aluminum rear hatch door and roof weld cracks. Ford has known about this problem since the year 2000 noted in TSB 16-0028. Dealers are aware, but do not disclose manufacturing defect prior to sale, which is fraud. Not properly separating the outer aluminum from the steel inside causes extreme corrosion. This leads to hood and door latch metal failing with hoods or doors opening during driving causing accidents or death.
