Ford vehicle shuts off sporadically with multiple warning lights while driving and stationary. The brakes also seize up to the point where they over heat and could catch fire. The most recent event happened may 15th after picking the car up from my local repair shop to try and repair what Ford dealerships has not been able to repair. It shut off on the way home. May 16th the brakes locked up. This issue has been going on for a over a year. My vehicle has been to several repair shops and was recently at auto nation Ford in union city GA for over a month awaiting a part that never showed up. I picked the vehicle up and took it to another local shop that was able to secure the part and replace it, but that still did not fix the problem. So far, I've spent upwards of $8000 in the span of a year and the issue still has not been resolve. Repairs from brake pads and rotors to the calipers and hydraulic system and even a full 4x4 transfer case asymbley so far none of the repairs has worked. It has shut off in the past while driving to work on the express way in heavy traffic areas. This vehicle is just unsafe to drive. I searched the internet and found other videos of Ford owners that are also going through this issue with the same results. I have video which is the best visual since there are multiple warnings that pop up.

Tl the contact owns a 2007 Ford Expedition. While reversing out of the driveway, the brakes and both front wheels seized and would not turn. As a result, the vehicle remained stuck in the middle of the street. The contact shut off the engine and removed the keys from the ignition. The vehicle was restarted and the gear was placed in neutral. The contact's husband had to pull the vehicle back into the driveway via a rope. The contact sprayed the wheels with a type of seizure unlock spray and the vehicle was able to be driven a day later. In addition, the abs warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake calipers seized. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 151,000.

First incident occurred when vehicle was traveling 45 mph. Brakes were applied to slow down before a curve. At the point the front wheels locked up and the vehicle began to rock back and forth and swerve on the roadway. To prevent a rollover the vehicle was steered off the road when it jumped an embankment and plowed through 25 feet mud and brush before coming to a complete stop. The brakes were completely inoperable. The vehicle was shut off and left until it could be towed out. After a few hours the calipers released. The second incident occurred when vehicle was stopped at a stop sign. When accelerated was pressed the front wheels were locked up and the back wheels were spinning. Vehicle was put in park, shut off, restarted after a few minutes and calipers were still locked up. Vehicle was towed home and calipers released after a few hours. Car had only been running for about 30 minutes when this happened. After diagnosis it was determined that the brackets that hold the brake lines on the front failed and wheel rotation were through the lines which caused the brake lines to intermittently collapse. All brake lines, calipers, tie rods, shock/struts, brakes, rotors, upper control arms and lower ball joints have been replaced on both front and rear. Vehicle had approximately 180,000 miles when both incidents occurred 3 months apart.
Multiple times replacing brake pads, rotors and calipers in under a year and 7,000 miles. Mechanics says it's a known defect of Ford that is not admitted. There is no hard braking, no odd driving, no real reasons for any brake issues to happen let alone requiring multiple replacements within a year. When I went to dealer, I was told they wouldn't help me. I could pay for them to replace it all but they were twice my local mechanic of course. Just want them to admit it and make my vehicle feel safe.

Upon braking at high speeds such as 65 mph exiting the interstate, the. Steering wheel would shudder violently, therefore in January 2016 at 39,416 miles, had front brakes and rotors replaced prior to driving in the rocky mountains of colorado. By July~ August 2016, reoccurrence of same problem so took vehicle to an alignment shop for service, where new rotors were the plan but they discovered front brakes also needed replacing so both replaced on the front. Now, November 10, mileage is 54,125, and visited Ford dealer after smoke and groaning noise occurred. I was told front brakes weren't safe to drive. I have now paid for new front brake, new front caliper, new brake hose.

Driver first noticed the smell of burning brakes when coming to a stop after exiting the highway, all at low speeds (speed limit was 35mph or less). At the next intersection, driver noticed white smoke coming from right front wheel. Driver got out to inspect the wheel, and noticed that the right front brake caliper and brake rotor were extremely hot and smoke and flames were coming from them. Other three wheels were cool (normal). There were no warning lights, etc. Turned off car, back on, in the hope of e. G. Resetting the abs controller -- no changes. Brakes were so hot that driver decided to drive some nearby frontage roads at low speeds, without using the brakes, in an attempt to cool the right front brake. Made little difference. Eventually parked the vehicle (braking continued to be impaired), came back around 1 hour later, brake had cooled down, was able to drive away. Similar instance recurred on 2012-12-18 -- again, right front brake, this time in city driving, rotor was glowing orange (not yet on fire) on a cold night when driver stopped to look at it and park the vehicle. This is of course a very dangerous situation, and could lead to loss of life due to front brake failure. Driver is aware that there is a recall ( 07e105000) associated with this year of the vehicle. Ford claims that this particular VIN is not affected by this recall. However, driver (who is experienced with brake systems) feels that these two events are very suggestive of a failure in the brake system to return fluid from the caliper, leading to excessive pressure in the caliper, leading to these problems. Driver has been unable to get information from Ford or continental (oem manufacturer) that would unambiguously show that the abs and brake modules in this particular vehicle are free from defects and are not subject to this recall. Ford should fix this!.

2007 Ford Expedition el, eddie bauer 4x4 mileage - 35,800 passenger front brake "dragging". Caused extremely hot and smoking brake components. -- this could have caused serious brake failure due to brake fluid boiling; possible fire, possible locked/skidding tire and loss of steering control. Full story: was towing a car on a trailer of about 5000 pounds total weight. Typical driving, south of watkins glen on rt 14 toward interstate, speeds 30-60mph; trailer has fully operational electric brakes. Smelled "hot brakes", pulled over, smoke pouring out of wheel. Pyrometer could not measure rotor temperature - meaning rotor was hotter than 790 degrees f. (I believe the drivers front rotor was about 230f). I also can't say 100% there was not a fire. Jacked it up, it was hard to turn the wheel. When it cooled, the wheel rotated without resistance. Took caliper off, cleaned brake pad contact areas, pistons seemed to press back easily. Did not need brakes on rest of way home and have not towed since -- no problems with brakes since (about 200 miles regular driving). So far stops straight without a shimmy. I plan to replace pads and bleed system unless I find something that suggest problems is more serious. . Read more...
Rubber brake line separated at the caliper. Caused total loss of braking power. Luckily I was pulling into the driveway at a slow speed when this happened.

On 6/22, the right wheel bearing assembly failed while traveling ~20 mph. As a result, a fire occurred. I put the fire out in our driveway at home with a water hose. Significant damage occurred to the right wheel assembly, bearing housing, 1/e axle, rotor, caliper, brake pads, emergency brake, etc. . . Luckily, were close to home and were not traveling 70 mph. No other vehicles were involved and there were no injuries as my wife and I were able to get all of our children out of the Expedition safely. Our Expedition is a 2004.

Front rotors turned by dealer several weeks prior due to vibration when stopping. Same problem returned and dealer this time replaced rotors and calipers. Now brakes feel weak, and travel of pedal has increased before brakes engage. Dealer claims this is within normal operation . Dealer claims new calipers have larger piston so this is reason for increased pedel travel and different feel of brakes ? brakes do not feel as if stopping vehicle as before problem began . Returned again to ask dealer 3-19-07 to bleed system due to soft pedal and concern. System bled manually this time and pedal got some what better . Still not as firm as when problem started. Pedal travel increase is still present before brakes engage. Veh does not stop as well as before problem began .

to whom it may concern:
we are the owners of a 2005 Ford Expedition XLT. In August 2006 I incurred a braking problem while driving. I immediately took the vehicle to the Ford dealer and had it checked out. They replaced the front brake calipers and machined the front rotors. Problem seemed to have been resolved. Then last week on Feb. 14th while driving at approximately 20-25 mi/hour as I broke the vehicle groaned, shuddered and the brake pedal went completely soft. After several pumps I was able to get the brakes back. Upon driving a little further it did it again. Then we resumed using the vehicle until sun. Feb. 18th when the same thing occurred while my husband was driving and began to brake at the approximate speed of 20 mi/hour. We returned our vehicle to the dealer to be checked out. They said they ran a full battery of diagnostic testing and found the vehicle to be free of problems. We feel very unsafe driving a vehicle that loses its ability to brake. We realize this is an intermittent problem but as far as fairway Ford is concerned we need to continue driving until it does it often enough that they can pinpoint the problem. Our problem is that could mean a major accident to say the least. We are inquiring as to whether this problem has been encountered by other individuals. We are also interested in any paths that we should take in an effort to identify if this is a systemic issue with the vehicle or an isolated incident. We are looking for support in getting this issue resolved as well. Any direction that you could provide will be greatly appreciated.

My brakes have wore down very quickly and unevenly so I tried to replace my break pads and when I removed the old pad and replaced the new pad the caliper won't go back into place. As if it's stuck. And prior to changing my pads and my brakes wearing down, I've always had a loud scraping sound down near my brake, especially when ever I turn left. I checked with several local auto part dealers and they said they're all sold out of brakes due to that problem. They have been hearing a lot of the same complaint. In addition, there has always be an excessive amount of brake dust that accumulates very quickly,(over 6hrs).

2002 Ford Expedition: right front brake(s) making grinding noise when driving and is exaggerated when braking. Called dealer to schedule service. Asked service advisor why wear indicator(s) did not work. Service advisor informed me that Ford has not installed brakes with wear indicators for years. I told the service advisor that it is unbelievable that a $30k vehicle would not have bps with wear indicators especially since my 1992 vw jetta has brake pads with wear indicators. I removed the rf tire to examine the brake pad(s) and discovered that the brake pad(s) do in fact have wear indicators however, the brake caliper is stuck which caused the inside brake pad to wear prematurely. This has scarred the rotor.
While driving there's a squeaking noise. Brake calipers are sticking. Please provide any further information.
Vehicle was going 10-12mph and when pulling into home driveway bolt from caliper assembly dropped out. This caused aluminum wheel to explode. Dealer was concerned regarding this incident.
Rear caliper froze up, causing premature failure. Also, it grinded into rotors. It cost consumer $600. 00 in repairs.
