3 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2003 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 08/29/2006

On August 26,2006 took my SUV to dealer to have it checked out because the front end was shaking really bad. Was told that it needed to have front and rear rotors replaced had another dealer check out only need front rotors replaced had them replaced. On sept 8, 2006 took back to dealer because I heard a whinning noise thought it was the power steering fluid low. It checked out okay dealer check it and was informed that the power steering pump was bad had it replace. Picked up my SUV and it was still making the same noise. Was told to drive for two weeks to let air bleed out line and bring back in two weeks call them to let them know that the noise was still there took to dealer. Nothing was done about it. Call the Ford customer service line and mailed them a letter about what was going on. They told me to take my SUV to another Ford dealer did that was told that the power steering pump was bad that I had put on in Aug. And that something was causing them to go bad. The steering rack is the problem. I call the dealer where I've all of my work done on my SUV and talk to the general manager. He was rude and hung up in my face I call back I'm going to take my SUV to them tomorrow oct 27,2006 and see if we can come to terms to get my SUV fix. But I've see many complaints about the same problem that 'm having.

4 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2003 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/24/2006

My brakes began to squeal around 50k. This is the first brake servicing required on this vehicle. I was told by a number of mechanics that the front rotors needed to be replaced because they were worn down too much. I was surprised about this and found that this is a very well known and common problem with the 2003 Ford Expeditions. Apparently, these rotors are not "defective" in material or workmanship otherwise there would be a recall. This is a prime example of poor design and engineering. It is completely ridiculous to expect anyone to believe it is normal to replace brake rotors on each brake pad change. I have bought american made vehicles my entire life. I was always told that the foreign cars were junk and cost a lot of money to maintain. Over the years I have spent much money and time repairing my american made cars. I had bought the cheapest car I could find back in 2000. A Hyundai elantra. I have had zero problems. Not a single one. The mileage is over 100k and I haven't even needed to change the brake pads. This car was the absolute cheapest car I could find on the market in 2000. I will take this as an illustration of how poorly the Ford line of products are either designed or backed up by the manufacturer.

5 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2001 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 03/25/2006

Since purchase I have traveled 80000 miles and have replaced the rotors 3 times and the pads 4 times on the front. The most current time the vehicle shakes so bad when I apply the brake that I have to alter my driving while stopping to avoid colliding with other vehicles. I have purchased the high heat rotors and ceramic pads to have the best possible parts on the vehicle and it still eats them up too often.

6 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2003 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 08/13/2005

The rotors have been constantly warping. The rotors were machined at 24985, 35498 and 40520 miles. The dealership told me this will be the last time the rotors can be turned and new rotors will have to be purchased if/when they warped again. Does not seem normal for the rotors to be turned every 5000 to 10000 miles. 8jb.

7 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2003 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 07/23/2005

2003 Ford Expedition. The consumer stated the rotors created a huge safety hazard . The brakes were made of hard metal, and the rotors were made of soft metal which wore them down. There were no brake problems prior to finding this defect. The vehicle has 50,000 miles on it, and was taken to dealer for regular maintenance to the brakes. The dealership refused to let the consumer take the vehicle until the rotors were replaced. They had never been turned. The rotors were replaced. The rotors were wore out below specification. This happened a month ago. The consumer contacted Ford, and they contacted the dealership. A regional director was to inspect the problem. They did not contact the consumer, he called them, and they told him his claim was denied.

8 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2004 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/20/2005

Shaking in steering wheel when brakes are applied. Took to dealer at 8k miles - dealer said front rotors are warped - they would only turn them. Problem occurred again at 20k miles. Dealer (same one) would not say what the problem was, only that heat causes them to warp - I requested new rotors but dealer only offered to turn the rotors again and warned me the rotors were so thin they could not be turned the next time. Still no explanation of what is wrong with the brake system. Heavy brake dust on front wheels.

9 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2003 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 03/02/2005

Front brake rotors completely worn down after only 23,000 miles. Seems to be a chronic problem with this year/model.

10 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2004 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 01/26/2005

Noticed a vibration and pulsation whenever applying brakes. 2004 Expedition with only 7k miles. Ford dealer noted the front rotors had "excessive run out" and were machined down. If the original rotors weren't strong enough to handle even 7000 miles then how is machining them thinner going to resolve the problem? I believe the rotors should have been replaced with stronger parts.

11 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2004 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 12/26/2004

Excessive front brake wear on 20004 Ford Expedition. Vehicle has 14,000 miles and front brakes are gone. Rotors cannot be turned due to excessive ware. Front inside calipher cannot and will not stay tight. They keep sliding causing heavy groove wear in the rotors and heavy front end shaking and wobble during stopping. The brakes often fade to the point where the emergency brake must be used for stopping. The Ford dealer recommended replacing the pads and rotors but not with oem parts as that is what the problem is. I was urged to go to after market brake components. I did and there is no brake dust, fade, squeak or shake.

12 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2004 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 11/03/2004

While driving at 35 mph front end started to shake: also the tires started to wobble severely when the brakes were applied. Consumer took vehicle to the Ford dealer, and the mechanic determined that the rotors were warped. Mechanic turned the rotors instead of replacing them.

13 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2003 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 08/30/2004

The dealership replaced the front and rear pads at 14,000 miles, and resurfaced the rotors. At 23,000 miles when consumer applied applied the brakes, they pulsated. Dealer indicated to the consumer that front rotors needed to be replaced. The dealer replaced the brake fluid because it was burnt. The consumer suspected there was pressure on the brake pads probably from the abs.

14 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2003 Ford Expedition

Excessive brake dust accumulation since new. Rotors have been turned once and now need to be replaced with pads at 23,600 miles.

15 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2004 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 07/06/2004

2004 Ford Expedition SUV - steering wheel pulsates when brakes applied. Returned to dealer service dept and they regroung the front rotors - this occured @ 16500 miles and @ 25600 miles. Dealer advised that it is not a good design by Ford motor company to large a vehicle for the size of brake rotor that they overheat and then warp ?? dealer advised I was applying the brakes too hard.

22 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2000 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/05/2001

I have now replaced the front brakes and rotors 3 times since buying this 2000 Ford Expedition in late 2000. I was informed by a former service manager from Ford that this defect is known and wide spread. What he explained to me that they received a large lot of front right brake lines that were to small or concluded enough so as not to let the caliper completely release the pads from the rotor causing failure of both in as little as 15000 miles. There is a cover up and people are probably having accidents due to this defect. I will never buy another Ford. We also had the leaking windshield over the drivers side that would leak into the electrical boards in the dash causing the lights to go out/the radio to go off and on by itself. The worst was it trying to start with no key or person in the vehicle and ruining the starter and the battery. Do not buy this vehicle!!!!!!!!!!!!! because Ford still lies that these are not their problems.

23 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 1997 Ford Expedition

29 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2000 Ford Expedition

The truck has 32,000 miles on it and the front rotors are no good. They have not been turned (1) time. I bought the Expedition used and have put maybe 10,000 miles on it. Speaking with the dealership they say when the truck was bought from them, there was nothing wrong with the rotors or brakes. My front bakes are completely gone and so are the rotors. The dealership says that since I live on a dirt road, this might have something to do with it. I have had (2) other Ford trucks (f-150's) that never had this problem, my husband has a f-250 and it has 2 times the mileage on it and it does not have this problem. I don't think this is normal wear and tear.
