13 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 2001 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 12/17/2002

My wife was driving in the middle of traffic when she suddenly had no brakes. The brake pedal went all the way to the floor and failed to respond. She then began to pump them wildly and got some braking action. (this is in an new Ford Expedition with only 47,000 miles on the odometer. ) she drove in first gear to our local Ford dealer a few blocks away. A right front wheel bearing had already worn out-apparently a manufacturing defect, causing the wheel to become loose from the axle. As it came loose, the brake shoe and piston mechanism of the brake ceased to function. She was lucky that she hit no one else and that the wheel did not come off causing the vehicle to flip. She was fortunate she was not on the freeway at high speeds when this incident occurred. The service manager said she was lucky to get in before the wheel fell off the vehicle. I am appalled to think that an SUV that has only had soft on- road use and never used off -road could have a wheel bearing go out at such low mileage. Because of the high profile nature of the vehicle, the potential for flipping is even greater with this type of problem than poorly constructed tires. I am very angry that such a problem occurred with this vehicle, when it is not even two years old.

20 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 2000 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 09/03/2001

Both rear tires had tread separation and a blow out occurred on one of them . . . . The vehicle had been to the dealers and had brake repairs at approx. 34,000 miles . From initial lease of vehicle, there were complaints of rough ride and apparent tire problems. The dealer never made any offer to correct the problem but balanced and rotated the tires. Upon taking this problem to them on 09/04/2001 they disclaimed any knowledge or assistance in adjusting the obvious malfunction of the general tire which blew out. . . Upon taking the vehicle to a tire store and had them check the tires for any other damage they discovered that another tire had a separation of the tread and had a knot on the tire which was just beginning to ware. All tires had proper air pressure. I have kept these tires for further investigation and complaint follow-up. (tiresize: 275x60r17).

24 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 2000 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 04/22/2001

I am concerned with the faulty mechanics on this vehicle. I have had this problem happen twice now since owning this vehicle. On Jan 27-2001, I was coming off the 5 fwy and lost all power of brakes. I had to downshift to 1st gear to get my vehicle to stop, almost causing a serious accident at beach blvd. 2nd time, I was traveling on the 91 fwy at approx 70 mph when my vehicle started swerving and became very bumpy. I had to veer off the fwy in a state of shock and dangerous matter. When I stopped, my truck dropped in the front right area. I got out to look and saw that the wheel had come off and was leaning into the inside of my tire well. I am now afraid of driving this vehicle and reporting it to you so you can look into it. Please follow up with me as to your actions and as to what actions I need to do to take care of this matter. Third strike usually ends up in ***death*** I do not want to be part of statistics or want to hear of any others getting hurt because of this malfunction. Thank you dean aughenbaugh.

Turning rt after a stop, I began to accelerate. Instantly the vehicle began to lisp to the left and travel across the center lane. Applying the brakes I could not turn back into the rt lane. The left drivers mirrow was ripped off as it clipped a neighbors lawn pole. Standing I still could not turn the vehicle. It stopped. Not able to exit the drivers door, I did the passengers. Inspecting, the left front wheel was gone. Towed to beaudrt Ford the vehicle had twice the damage as at the scene. ( pictures were taken at both places). Ask if there were any recalls, I was told no, 4 times. This is untrue. I have been forced to allow beaudry to fix my vehicle as they tell me they cannot get any Ford engineers to inspect the car. This SUV fell apart. 152,000 of the same year 4x4s were recalled.
