While driving at 35mph, downhill with no traffic in front, behind, or oncoming, the dash flashed red and immediately the brakes were instantly applied harshly causing occupants to lunge forward into seat belt restraint. Vehicle deceleration almost to a stop. Brakes then released . Driver continued home and was afraid to continue operating the vehicle. Dealer was called and picked up the vehicle. Dealer inspected vehicle and could not find a problem. Per the service writer no recall or TSB found on this issue. Vehicle has been returned 1/26/2026. Collision avoidance system has been turned off per our request. Mileage 2458. In service date 07/26/2025.

Vehicle: 2023 Ford Expedition XLT max component: service brakes / hydraulic / brake pedal description of the problem: the vehicle experiences intermittent brake slippage that occurs randomly approximately 2–3 times per month. The issue happens while decelerating between 10–20 mph. When applying the brakes to slow down, the brake pedal suddenly travels further downward, as if the brakes slip or momentarily lose pressure. This significantly reduces braking confidence and control. The condition occurs without warning and is not driver-induced. When it happens, it feels as though the brakes may fail entirely. Safety risk: this is a serious safety concern. This vehicle is our primary family vehicle and is regularly used to transport two toddlers and an infant. When the brake slippage occurs, it is frightening and creates fear that the brakes could fail while driving, potentially causing a serious accident. I do not feel the vehicle is safe to operate under these conditions. Service history / attempts to repair: •the vehicle is just over one year old and covered under an extended warranty. •the vehicle has been taken to two separate Ford dealerships for diagnosis. •both dealerships stated they cannot perform repairs unless the issue happens while a technician is driving the vehicle. •I was told I must “wait until the problem gets worse” before any repair can be made. •one dealership kept the vehicle for over one week, drove it 100+ miles, and had three technicians drive it, yet reported they could not replicate the issue. Given how frequently this occurs during normal driving, it is concerning that no corrective action has been taken despite repeated complaints. Outcome / concern: I am concerned that I am being forced to continue driving a vehicle with a known braking issue until a failure becomes severe enough to be witnessed, placing my family and others at risk. I am submitting this complaint to formally document the issue before serious accident occurs.

While pulling out of a parking lot onto a 4 lane undivided city street, the vehicle flashed a warning light on the dash saying “trailer brakes engaged” and the vehicle came to an abrupt stop in the lanes of active traffic narrowly avoiding a collision. As if the parking brake had set uncommanded. The vehicle was not and has never pulled a trailer since we’ve owned it the last 9 months. The engine was stalled but accessory was still on. After an off/on cycle the vehicle started and went into gear functioning normally. Immediately taken to a Ford/Lincoln dealer. They inspected and told us they found no codes and no discernible issues with the vehicle and it was released. Will be dropped off at another Ford shop in the morning to continue diagnosis.
When merging on the highway in the rain the vehicle locked up on me and almost killed me. I could have been seriously injured I could not stop the car and it slid along the highway at high speeds . Luckily was able to get to the shoulder.

When slowing down to turn into a parking lot my car suddenly experienced sudden “phantom braking”. I was going slowly and I wasn’t braking. My car only has automatic braking when cruise control is on. Cruise wasn’t on. The car suddenly braked hard and chimed twice. My car has a collision warning system but that doesn’t chime like this. I didn’t see any dash warning lights, it looked normal by the time I looked for warning lights. I coasted into the parking lot because I wasn’t even sure if the engine was running. I couldn’t find anything wrong and everything has seemed normal since then. When it braked, I had my foot above the brake pedal because I was getting ready to brake further as I turned. When the phantom braking happened I felt the pedal move. It suddenly depressed then and sprung back up. I believe I was going less than 20mph.

While driving the vehicle the screen starting flashing several braking warnings before I tried stopping. Once I tried to stop, the brakes didn’t not work. I was pushing the pedal all the way to the floor but no stopping. I have this on video as my wife started to record the flashing lights. The brakes finally engaged slowly before I was able to let it roll to a stop in a parking lot. This car was two weeks old.
In March, 2024, as part of a mandatory Ford and NHTSA safety recall for a leaking master cylinder, we had our Ford Expedition serviced at lugoff Ford, lugoff, SC to replace the faulty brake parts. Ford recall reference: 22s11/22s11d - NHTSA reference: 22v-150. At the time of the recall and replacement there was no indication of the master cylinder leaking. On [xxx] our brakes failed on a trip necessitating an emergency brake repair. The servicing shop found evidence that the master cylinder had failed, leaking brake fluid - the exact safety issue that the recall and repair in March 2024 was to fix. We are formally reporting this incident as a potential failure of a manufacturer's recall remedy. That a Ford-mandated safety repair failed in this manner indicates that the replacement parts or the repair procedures specified in the recall campaign are highly likely to be inadequate. This poses a significant risk to the thousands of other Ford Expedition owners who have had this recall service performed, as they may be unknowingly operating vehicles with a latent defect. We urge you to investigate the effectiveness of this recall and determine if other owners have experienced similar premature failures post-repair. This situation is unacceptable. A safety recall should increase a vehicle owner's confidence in their vehicle, not introduce a new failure point. We trusted Ford to correct a known defect, and that trust was broken. Repair due to recall miles: approx 150,000 failure of brake system due to replaced part failure: approx 163,000 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

My wife was driving the vehicle. While attempting to stop, the brakes failed. The brake warning light came on and alarmed. She was not able to stop safely without using the parking brake. Brake fluid was gone and completely drained into the brake booster. My family was completely at risk. Thankfully there were no injuries or damage. The vehicle was towed to a Ford dealership. The dealership diagnosed it as brake fluid pumping from brake cylinder into brake booster.
While driving at varying speeds the service brake warning light would come on and the vehicle would shudder while decelerating before coming to a full stop as the brakes were engaged resulting in a longer distance required for breaking. After initial occurrence the vehicle was inspected by the local dealership where they determined that "the brake lines passed inspection and there were no other observable issues. " this happened roughly 20 times over a collective 2 hours of drive time throughout a 3 week period. Eventually the vehicle's computer system disabled the abs and provided an error code regarding a faulty abs. Upon a second inspection by the local dealership service department accompanied by video footage that I took of the incident the following report was made by the service department "brake booster replacement - c0047:31 - internal ebb failure".
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 25v236000 (service brakes, hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that the brake fluid would reduce to empty within 10 minutes of adding brake fluid. When pressing the brake pedal, there is a reduction in pedal pressure, and the vehicle decelerates slowly. The dealer was contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline to file a safety complaint. The contact had not experienced a failure mileage was approximately 135,000.
I am the owner of a 2024 Ford Expedition, purchased new in March 2024. I am writing to formally report multiple instances of complete brake failure, which pose a significant safety risk. The most recent incident occurred on July 31, 2025, at approximately 4:15 pm, while I was driving northbound on highway 85 in cupertino, California, with my wife and two grandchildren (ages 6 and 8) in the vehicle. As I approached the fremont avenue exit, I began decelerating. While applying continuous pressure on the brake pedal during the descent of the off-ramp, the brake pedal suddenly went soft and sank to the floor. The vehicle failed to slow down and began accelerating downhill, due to gravity, toward the intersection at fremont avenue, where the light was red. This total loss of braking control lasted for approximately 5 to 10 seconds and nearly resulted in a serious collision. I was only able to regain control by releasing and reapplying the brake pedal and shifting the transmission into park, at which point the brakes resumed normal function. A similar brake failure occurred earlier in 2024 under comparable driving conditions. At that time, I believed it to be an isolated mechanical glitch, and therefor did not take it to the dealer. I brought the vehicle to frontier Ford in santa clara the following day (August 1, 2025) for immediate inspection. Despite ongoing efforts by the dealership and Ford engineering, the issue has not been duplicated or resolved. As of this writing, the vehicle remains at the dealership. I am filing this complaint so that the matter may be officially documented and thoroughly investigated as a potential systemic safety defect affecting this model. I urge you to investigate this issue promptly to help prevent similar incidents and ensure the safety of other drivers and passengers.

[xxx], I bought a new Ford Expedition max platinum. Four days after I bought the Ford Expedition max, I experienced brake failure and all warning lights going off on the Ford. I was unable to brake correctly and almost causing a wreck on [xxx] in charlottesville, va. I called the Ford dealership, (myers Ford) in elkton where I bought the Ford and they sent me a message saying there was an open recall that would be coming out but not till q3 due to no fixes as of yet. I told them I didn't trust the car and what was I supposed to do. They sent me a text with a fix and said Ford told them it would be safe to drive. I had to follow the instructions on the message from Ford and the car was back up and running. [xxx], my family and I were returning from nc and there was a wreck that ensued in front of us and with about 60 feet of room, we tried to brake and the brakes failed on us and we rear ended the truck ahead and we totaled are new Expedition max. I have tried to reach out to Ford and make a complaint but they keep hanging up on us and rejecting our phone calls. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. The issue involves the brake system, specifically a brake fluid leak from the master cylinder area, which was identified under Ford safety recall 25s47. The component is still in the possession of the dealership and should be available for inspection upon request. I did not personally experience any symptoms while driving. There were no warning lights, messages, or noticeable changes in braking performance before the issue was discovered. The problem was confirmed by the service department at jc lewis Ford during a recall inspection. They deemed the vehicle unsafe to drive due to the risk of reduced or complete loss of front braking power, which could place my safety and the safety of others at risk. As of now, the vehicle has been at the dealership for over 35 days, and Ford has not provided a fix or repair parts. I am currently driving a loaner vehicle. The issue has not been resolved and the vehicle remains out of service.

I was in a car accident on June 12, 2025, and my steering wheel airbag did not deploy correctly or function correctly. It was a front in straightforward collision. I did not have warning signs so my brakes could have been an issue because I was paying attention and unable to avoid an accident going under the speed limit. The rear cross traffic. Warning stays on pretty consistently because we live down a dirt road, and every time it rains, it again comes back on. I do not believe I heard the forward collision detection go off either. When I hit the back of a work convoy truck straight on, my steering wheel airbag did not deploy correctly. It did come out it never inflated. It did not protect me. I do not have any broken bones, but I do have a hematoma right beside my under arm, and a great deal of bruising.
I actually have already sent in an assessment for airbag, but then read the recall on brakes, which at the time, because a new vehicle, I didn’t think possible. Even when pushing on my brakes, my vehicle was not slowing down like it should have, and I had a front end collision. It was hard for me to think this was because of brakes because new, but I do think they need to be examined.
I have taken my vehicle Ford country in henderson nv for this recall. I took my Expedition in on June 6. As of today there has been zero work done on this recall. I am repeatedly told that there is nothing that can be done until Ford releases the permanent fix. I have a rental and the service agent at this dealership has been great. I have seen the conversation between him and the recall department at Ford and they are refusing to fix it temporarily. This is completely unacceptable. Ford either needs to provide a temporary fix or release the permanent fix so that I can get my vehicle back.
I own a 2024 Ford Expedition XLT. The vehicle repeatedly loses multiple federally mandated safety systems including blind spot monitoring, cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, and camera systems. Alerts include: ‘cross-traffic system fault,’ ‘blind spot system fault,’ ‘pre-collision assist not available,’ ‘front camera fault,’ and ‘check parking sensors. ’ Ford has acknowledged this as a known issue with a fix delayed until June. My dealer (morries Ford, buffalo mn) is charging $225 each time the defect recurs just to clear errors. This is a safety defect that places my family at risk. Ford is refusing to cover the full repair cost and the dealer is charging for temporary resets.
Brakes were functional at time of parking SUV. Upon reentering and starting vehicle, the add brake fluid light and alert came on. The brake peddle was non existent with feel. The brake reservoir was empty but no visual leaks from any of the brake calipers or lines were evident. After refilling the brake master cylinder to the full line. The fluid again drained to an unknown location with no visual leaks.
The 2024 Ford Expedition brakes was not working at the time of the accident, we later found that there was a recall on the brakes. Pma companies is the tpa for the victaulic companies, please see accident description below: insured driver states she pulled in driveway and was trying to park vehicle. Driver hit the brakes all the way down and the vehicle did not stop. Vehicle went through drivers fence and struck a tree causing damages to vehicle. Caused damages to neighbors fence.

The vehicle was driven to an auto repair shop and coast to a stop. The certified mechanic noticed that the brake fluid reservoir was empty again. The contact stated that the brake reservoir was empty within 2 to 4 minutes. The mechanic confirmed that the brake master cylinder was leaking brake fluid into the brake booster. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, whose diagnosed the vehicle and confirmed that the failure was linked to the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer. The manufacturer opened a case; however, the case was closed due to no updates on the availability of the parts. The driver's side front brake line is positioned too close to the steering column at manufacturing. This is causing the steering column to wear a hole in the metal brake line tube ultimately causing a loss of brakes.

I was in an accident on December 9 at 2 pm it was slightly wet out & 51 degrees I was making a left turn out of a business went into the middle lane and gave some gas to merge into the lane and the back end of the vehicle locked up and swung into a tail spin to the right as I applied the brakes it locked up worse and the vehicle spun around twice. Went into oncoming traffic and was hit. Had to exite the vehicle on the passenger side because I could not open the drivers door. When the police and tow truck came the both could not believe the airbags did not deploy . The car was found to be totaled by my insurance CO. Aaa the fact that not one of the airbags didn’t deploy is very disturbing to me!!! this was my first Ford and dont think I will ever own anther.
