On Nov 22 I pulled over to the shoulder of a highway in the midst of a snowstorm to make a phone call. When I went to get back onto the highway, my vehicle lost all brakes. . . The brake pedal hit the floor. . . And I had a low-speed impact with a berm rising up to a driveway that intersected the shoulder. The vehicle had to be towed to a nearby dealer. The only mechanism to stop it on/off the tow truck was slamming transmission into park. Due to the storm, I had to spend the night in the vehicle in the freezing cold at the tow destination. The cause of the brake failure was determined to be a material defect of a rubber section of brake line deep in the engine compartment that burst, causing a loss of all brake fluid. It was repaired under warranty. I had just received the vehicle back from repairing the body damage to the bumper when the Ford brake line recall was issued. I believed that my incident in Nov was the result of the issue that resulted in the recall, and that surely the warranty repair would have thus resolved all related issues. That was not the case. When I brought the vehicle to koons Ford woodbridge four routine service, they found that it failed the brake line recall test and that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. However, they are not actively repairing it. In fact, the parts needed to repair don't exist. I'm told it will be 2-3 months before a part is even available. And they have failed to provide an any vehicle that can safely transport my family of 7. I therefore believe that Ford have *failed to comply* with the NHTSA regulation that obligates them to repair the vechicle. They're not repairing it. So I am therefore left to demand that they select another option available under recall regulations, preferably a full refund of the purchase amount. At a minimum, this incident refutes Ford's published claims that there have been no collisions associated with the brake line defect that resulted in the recall.

I was on my way to my daughter's school. We got off the on ramp to her school and while waiting at the red stop light, my car stalled. The wheels locked. My brake pedal and gas pedal were not working when the stop light turned green. The car dashboard was showing the power to be on but nothing was working. After a minute, the battery light and the a light with the arrow that kind of circles around it started blinking. I put my hazards and waved people behind me to go around me. After a few minutes, my car started to go backwards on the on-ramp. I looked back and could feel and see my car going backwards toward the cars behind me. The traffic behind me on the on-ramp started to honk at me. They could see what was happening too. I put the car from drive to park and put my emergency brake and the car stopped. I called 911 and explained what was happening. After a few more minutes, two men in two different vehicles came and offered to help push my car. One of them asked me to put my car in neutral but my car was not allowing me to turn to the different shifts. All of a sudden my car starts blinking again. One of the guys told me to try to press the power again. All of a sudden my car starts powering up again. I thanked the two men and finished dropping off my daughter to school. From the time my car stalled and turned back on was about 8-9 minutes. This car has shown problems over and over with Ford. I have had 3 new car batteries since owning this vehicle in the 3 years I've had it. I've reported all the different car issues on the NHTSA website. I just had my oil changed a few months ago. My car just had a few things fixed in June. I have never been so shaken up like this before. My legs and hands could not stop shaking. I couldn’t stop crying. I’ve never been so scared in my life in this vehicle. This was the first time my kid was with me when my car has stalled like this. For my car to lose complete function was the scariest moment in my life with my kid.

The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while driving approximately 15 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, and there was an abnormal whining sound coming from the front driver's side wheel well. The contact had to depress the brake pedal sooner to allow more stopping distance while stopping the vehicle. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the abnormal sound occurred at speeds between 15 and 20 mph. Additionally, the contact stated that the rear-view camera was no longer functioning. The contact stated that the image from the rear-view camera was distorted. The contact had received notifications of NHTSA campaign number: 25v236000 (service brakes, hydraulic) and 25v572000 (back over prevention). The contact called a local dealer and the manufacturer and was advised that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had advised that the recall for the brake master cylinder, parts were on a national back order, and that the remedy for the rear view camera was also not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to stop as intended. The contact used the parking brake to stop the vehicle. The contact stated that the brake fluid level was checked, and the brake fluid level was low but there were no signs of a brake fluid leak. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the cause of the failure was not yet determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact was informed that the repair was not covered under NHTSA campaign number: 22v150000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.
Approximately one week ago, I was on the freeway when at 70 miles an hour warning light came in with brake system. Failure came up, and I lost all power to the vehicle and shut down and I tried restarting it on neutral. I was in traffic, which made it more difficult to go onto the side of the road went to I was in the center divider. There was no power of any kind to left side of vehicle windows, door locks, etc. The vehicle was towed to the dealership in san diego where they told me they couldn’t look at the vehicle for over a month, but their service tech and the repair person from the dealership was unable to attach a computer to the vehicle scanner was not showing anything wrong. I then had the vehicle towed again to my home where the dealer had told me it was a battery however I purchased a new battery from the dealer , and it made no difference approximately three days later I started the vehicle to roll up the window that was down and everything seem to work however, I put it in and proceeded forward. The same situation occurred once again with the statement system system failure, but this time parking assist downhill was also showing on the dashboard warning indicator. I have replaced the motor transmission and turbo on this back in January 2024. Vehicle is still under warranty however this seems to be a problem if the vehicle is cutting out with very minimal warning and shutting down on the freeway, this can cause an accident with myself and anybody near me , because the vehicle and the braking system shut down. I don’t know if this is a recall, but it’s something that should be looked at in a timely matter. Please contact me with further details. God bless.

Applied brakes and instead of braking, vehicle accelerated on its own. Please note, when brake applied, felt resistance and simultaneously vehicle accelerated into lane of traffic. Rate of speed was very low, as I was coming to a stop in a parking lot. No warning lights on dash, dealership confirmed it was not the floor mats, there are no loose items in vehicle. My safety was put at risk as well as anyone walking/crossing the walk area and any vehicles that may have been in the lane of traffic. I immediately contacted dealership and was told to bring it in. The dealership has the vehicle currently, information provided to me by dealership. The vehicle was running self tests. Now the tech has opened a Ford hotline report, have not been able to duplicate issue and now awaiting response from Ford as to how proceed in diagnosing vehicle. Incident occurred July 25, 2024.

Brake pedal goes to floor, all brake fluid is leaking into an unknown area.
On [xxx], my 2017 Ford Expedition suddenly lost all brake fluid in the master cylinder, where it drained into the brake booster. We had no braking function whatsoever. I filled up with another quart of brake fluid, drained into brake booster as well. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer in lagrange, GA, where the work was completed on 7/8/2024. I was preparing to drive my family home to FL when we noticed the issue. We had to stay an extra night in the hotel. Thank goodness we had not been on the road and were only leaving the hotel. There is already a recall for the same issue, with vehicles made through 1/31/2017. My vehicle, by VIN, was made on 2/3/2017 at the same plant. Ford is refusing to acknowledge the issue. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Brake master cylinder rear seal failed and engine vacuum drew all fluid from reservoir into brake booster as vehicle idled in park. Both front and rear brakes were inoperable because one reservoir serves both systems and that reservoir was emptied by engine vacuum. Pedal went to floor with zero brake actuated. At highway speed this would result in a severe accident due to the rapid loss of fluid with no prior change in braking effort. Vehicle could only be slowed with parking brake. Ford dealer service department inspected and confirmed loss of fluid into booster. Brake warning light and low fluid message displayed as reservoir was drained by engine vacuum.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the vehicle jerked violently. The brake warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that when the vehicle was started, there was a burning odor emanating from underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 104,550.

The contact's fiancée owns a 2002 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that there was smoke coming from the driver's side front end of the vehicle. The contact stated that while his fiancée was attempting to drive the vehicle the following day, the brake pedal was depressed but was firm, requiring the contact's fiancée to step on the brake pedal to drive. The brake pedal remained on the floorboard and was inoperable, causing the contact's fiancée to shift to park(p) to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the speed control deactivation switch (scds) connectors had burned, and the brake fluid had leaked from the brake fluid reservoir. The dealer replaced the scds sensor and harness under NHTSA campaign number: 05v388000 (vehicle speed control). The dealer declined to perform repairs for collateral damages. The contact stated that he was an auto-electrician mechanic who owned an auto shop. The vehicle was then towed to the contact's auto repair shop, where mechanics replaced the brake master cylinder and cleaned brake fluid off the engine bay. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 163,745.

Two issues with a brand new vehicle that is in the service department and they are unable to diagnose the issue. The major concern is regarding the braking system. While in a parking lot driving slowly (5-10 mph) the brakes suddenly locked up and the vehicle came to a complete stop. A message appeared reading "brake system failure, have brakes serviced". The message then went away and the vehicle was able to continue. The other issue is a front sensor keeps beeping as if there is something in that area. The brake issue is concerning, if we were on the interstate traveling at 70 mph this could be a major safety issue and puts us in danger. The car only has 300 miles on it.
Front brake hose metal crimp completely rusted causing brake hose separation and failure. Design has rubber boot over crimp which actually retains moisture over many years. Boot may be intended to reduce stress at joint of metal to hose but actually enhanced failure mode. Drivers side came apart after minor bump during service, have photos of passenger side still intact but clearly fragile.

For the second time the front brake calipers on my 2015 Ford Expedition have locked up causing premature brake pad and rotor failures, causing the rotors to turn blue because they got so hot, therefore causing my brakes to fade and coast into the intersection. (no accidents yet). First repair was done at a reputable shop under an extended warranty, it is now back in the same shop for the same issue.

The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving 60 mph, the brake warning light illuminated. After parking the vehicle, the contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard upon restart the vehicle. Brake fluid was added to the vehicle; however, the failure returned soon after the brake fluid was added. Additional brake fluid was added to the vehicle and the vehicle was taken to the local dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred to the contact to the NHTSA hotline. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 152,000.
While parked on an incline, the truck's wheels disengaged and it rolled down backwards. The emergency brake was set. The vehicle has a known defect but the dealership will not expedite the repair.

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, a burning odor was detected. The contact later received notification of NHTSA campaign numbers: 22v150000 (service brakes, hydraulic) and 22v648000 (visibility, electrical system). The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the front blower motor connector and resistor needed to be replaced; however, the parts were not covered under the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the front blower motor connector was previously replaced; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that only the brake master cylinder and front blower motor assembly would be replaced free of charge under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

My wife was driving home from work and when she went to stop at an intersection, the brakes failed to engage. She stated she pushed the brake to the floor and the car would not stop. We were on the phone when this occurred. She suddenly said she got into an accident as her car would not stop. She also stated that in the morning, the car would not stop as she was backing into her parking spot in the parking garage at work. Significant front end damage to my wife's vehicle causing almost $13k in damages including a bent frame. She was not going fast as she was approaching a major street from a side street.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed with the brake pedal depressed all the way to the floorboard, the vehicle failed to stop. The contact was able to bring the vehicle to a stop by engaging the parking brake. After a visual inspection of the engine compartment, the contact observed that the brake fluid reservoir was empty. After refilling the brake fluid reservoir, the vehicle seemed to return to normal functionality, but the failure quickly recurred the same day. The low brake fluid warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who determined that the master cylinder was leaking brake fluid into the brake booster. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related it to NHTSA campaign number 22v150000 (service brakes, hydraulic), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 89,000.
Near total loss of brakes. Pulled in to a parking spot and brakes very squishy, upon returning brake light was on. No indication of brake fluid on ground. Added approximately 25oz of fluid topping off reservoir, upon returning home (1. 5mi) the pedal travel was much longer than normal, and no fluid remaining in reservoir again. Replaced master cylinder and power booster. Upon removing the power booster was full of oil.
Two incidents resulting in minor collision. No injuries. Approaching traffic light applying brakes and accelerator is also engaged. I could not stop the vehicle. Repair man denied it could happen after first incident. No inspections made as far as I know. There is usually no warning lights or indicators on with this vehicle. I am terrified of this vehicle now. I have owned it for less than 2 months. I understand it was in a major (front and rear) accident in atlanta area by a previous owner. Police report to be filed Monday morning. Both parties have geico insurance. 1st incident at 46th and division, kentwood, mi doing test drive. 2nd incident at corner of perryville and state, rockford, IL returning to hotel.

After he replenished the brake fluid, the brake fluid warning light appeared again as the brake pedal depressed to the floorboard. Despite the failure, the contact managed to drive home using his emergency brake. The next day, he inspected the vehicle and discovered that the brake master cylinder had allowed brake fluid to leak into the brake booster. Upon investigation, the contact linked his failure to NHTSA campaign number: 22v150000 (service brakes, hydraulics). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed him that his vehicle was not included in the recall. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 104,290 .
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving 25 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, but went down to the floorboard, and the vehicle hesitated to respond. The message "low brake fluid" was displayed. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving. The vehicle was taken to a Chevrolet dealer, where it was diagnosed that the brake master cylinder was leaking brake fluid into the brake booster. The dealer diagnosed that the brake master cylinder and the brake booster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 22v150000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The local Ford dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.
While driving down the highway, the low brake fluid light sounded and the brake light came on . We slowly loss brakes while driving down the hwy. We added brake fluid, which there was no brake fluid in there at all . When we added the fluid, we pump the brakes and they tighten . Shortly after adding more fluid , the fluid and brakes were gone and white smoke came out of the tail pipe. We never could see exactly where it was leaking at. We added about a quart and a half of fluid . After adding the more fluid, we managed to get it up to the dealership where it was purchased . We explain to what was going on and he knew of the situation because he said it was a recall last year on the master cylinder if I’m saying it, right. I told him that we never received a recall letter but we left the vehicle and he did research by our VIN number, and said we were not part of the recall, but I read a recall number 22s14 about the break failure in Expeditions. We called the local number attached to the recall and they once again told us that our vehicle was not part of the recall because I guess it was not out of the kentucky plant . We are having the same issue with our brakes, but it’s not covered in the current recall. My vehicle is currently in the shop and waiting to be repaired. Can someone research and see if our vehicle can be part of the recall now and be repaired under the/a recall. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving 50 mph, the low brake fluid message flashed on the instrument panel. As the contact attempted to depress the brake pedal, the pedal depressed to the floorboard. Due to the failure, the contact applied the parking brake and pulled off to the shoulder. As traffic cleared, the contact pulled into the parking lot of his employment where the vehicle parked. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact was informed that there were no open recalls or warranty on the vehicle. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA campaign number: 22v150000 (service brakes, hydraulics) which he linked to the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 123,000.
No brakes, engine racing, & ignition would not turn off, yes available for inspection at seth whatley Ford. Car crashed which was the only way it came to a stop, wheels were still turning when I got out of the car, if anyone one had been around they would have been hurt or killed. Towed to dealer, dealer was unable to find any evidence on their side. Insurance adjuster came out and assess the damage from crash. There was no warning lights or sensors that were working during this episode. Monday, March 27, 2023 at approximately 10am, I got into my Expedition to start my vehicle, the brake pedal was depressed as I pushed the button to start the car, and the engine was running smoothly. Foot was on the brake pedal when I put the car into reverse, the car shot out from the carport and engine was racing. I tried to pump the breaks and push the engine button, while guiding the car as it kept going faster and faster, until I hit a trailer that was attached to a truck. There was two witness that saw everything, that went on. I feel this car is dangerous. If this had occurred when my family was around serious injuries could have occurred, or if I had been in a parking lot, there was no way to stop and I was not in control. Safety is the first issue. Special note - I took my car in February 2022 for the recall.
Car was fine yesterday and today my breaks don't work have to push the pedal all the way to the ground popped the hood and the break fluid is gone took it to a auto store for help they could not find a leak anywhere told me there is a recall possibly for this problem it's a 2020 never had a problem and recently took it to kendall for a oil change so it just happened.
In December we took our vehicle in for a scheduled recall repair. Upon installation, we were told by the dealer that all parts were not available. So they released our vehicle back to us. No follow up between and on March 17, the braking system failed. An accident was narrowly avoided.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving 15 mph, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to stop immediately. The contact activated the parking brake to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 22v150000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed the vehicle with brake master cylinder and brake booster failure. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed with hydraulic control unit failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact the vehicle was not covered under the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
Multiple times while driving the vehicle I had trouble getting the brakes to work while driving and needing to slow down or coming to a complete stop. This almost resulted in an accident 2 times. We thought it was the current related to recall 22s11 which we had fixed already in July 2022. However, it is an issue that is not a reported recall at the moment. It is for the hydrolic control unit. Ford will not replace this part at their cost and is forcing me to pay even though it is a major safety issue.
Hello, on a number of occasions (while driving on the highway and attempting a stop at a light) our brake system has gone unresponsive. It almost caused a collision the other day when I was approaching a red light. What happens is I push the brake, and then it almost feels like there is no resistance whatsoever and it goes soft, then I have to push very hard all the way down (pedal to the metal) on the brake to get it to stop. Ford tells me my vehicle is not part of this recall for brake issues, but it is just a little suspcious that I have the same kind of car where there is a brake recall issue. . Read more...
