1 Rear Suspension Shock Absorber problem of the 2017 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 07/23/2021

The rear shocks/struts have each failed twice so far. I have had both replaced once, and the rear passenger side replaced through Ford. I am being told by el cajon Ford the rear driver's side needs to be replaced again (and the passenger side also because they are supposed to be changed at the same time. I have the platinum warranty for Ford, which covers the macpherson strut (which is what my vehicle has on the rear, it does not have individual shocks). I have had the vehicle less than 4 years, and am looking at putting the 5th set of shocks on the vehicle. For clarification, the macpherson strut has a shock as part of its assembly. It is not a separate unit, it is a component of the macpherson strut.

2 Rear Suspension Shock Absorber problem of the 2018 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 08/12/2020

I took my 2018 Expedition (with 40k miles on it) in last week because the ride has been really bouncy lately during normal street and highway driving and my wife and kids have complained. I have noticed the bounciness too while driving. This is a new phenomenon for my vehicle but in researching online is not a new issue and Ford is aware, just not doing anything about it. There are 7 (now 8) complaints about struts/suspension for the 2018 Ford Expedition. More detail is below. The dealer called me today (six days after dropping it off) and says all four of the strut assemblies need to be replaced because they are leaking and it will cost ~$1700 plus tax. I said struts are covered under my premium care extended warranty (not to mention I am just past 36k miles for normal warranty - so it could be an after warranty item too as I've never replaced struts on any car). When the service department went to enter the strut code into the extended warranty system, struts aren't an option code, but shocks are. The problem is shocks aren't covered and they can't find a code to get the strut assembly covered. The only parts that Ford sells for the suspension are labeled shock absorbers, and struts are not a sold option. The dealer thinks Ford should cover as they believe it falls under the warranty . My premier care contract and the premier care brochure says struts are covered, as well. It appears Ford is trying to avoid responsibility. So I have authorized the repair so the car is driveable (I am getting brakes and normal maintenance done too). Not to mention I am supposed to drive my son to college on Friday. This is causing me to rent a suburban and shell out another $400 for that pleasure.

3 Rear Suspension Shock Absorber problem of the 2014 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 04/27/2020

Our 2014 Ford Expedition has defective shock absorbers which leak oil. On 4/21/17, with 21,132 miles on the odometer, the Ford dealer replaced the left front shock absorber, which was leaking oil, under warranty. On 11/17/17 the Ford dealer, with 27,000 miles on the odometer, replaced the right front and right rear shock absorbers which were both leaking oil. This was done because the vehicle did not pass virginia safety inspection and was also done under warranty. Now, on 4/30/20 with 49,851 miles on the odometer, the right rear shock absorber, which was replaced by the Ford dealer at 27,000 miles, is leaking oil. Since the vehicle is no longer under warranty, a local garage is replacing the right rear shock absorber. The Ford motorcraft shock absorbers used on this model vehicle are obviously defective. This vehicle has always been used highway use only and never for any off-road use.

4 Rear Suspension Shock Absorber problem of the 2018 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 12/10/2018

Vehicle as delivered new from the factory had a very loud and distinct clunking in the rear suspension when driving. It clunks repeatedly with each downshift of the 10 speed transmission and once very hard upon acceleration. It was later determined that the rear differential retainer bushing had been left loose and not fully installed, allowing the whole rear suspension system to rotate when it should have been fixed. This resulted in premature tire wear and apparent fluid loss in the shock absorbers. The end result is a vehicle that has a very harsh ride.

5 Rear Suspension Shock Absorber problem of the 2018 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/18/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2018 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that the rear shock absorbers were defective and caused the rear of the vehicle to bounce when driving over a pothole. The vehicle's rear would also bounce sideways when making turns. The vehicle was taken to hixson Ford of alexandria (2506 s macarthur dr, alexandria, la 71301, (318) 448-0871) where the rear shocks were replaced with new ones under the warranty. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 6.
