The accelerator pedal is mounted to the floor and the pedal itself is attached to the base with a very thin piece of plastic that over time separates. In my vehicle the pedal has separated and is moving freely which makes the accelerator pedal raise up while your foot is on the brakes and when you go to accelerate the pedal is blocking your foot from returning to the accelerator. The answer to question #1, the accelerator pedal and yes it is available for inspection. #2 I was nearly struck while crossing over a divided highway because my foot was obstructed by the accelerator pedal. #3 I have contacted the dealer and they advised I had to replace the part because it was not under recall. #4 I am law enforcement and I have encountered and inspected the pedal and deem it to be dangerous. #5 there were no lamps, no warning lights and this occurred all of the sudden, no symptoms prior to separation.

Gas pedal bracket fell off the firewall of the vehicle. Jamming up under the brake pedal almost caused and accident. I got the vehicle stopped by using the emergency brake did a temporary repair to get my vehicle to a shop to see about having repair done. After the vehicle was at the shop and repair was done the garage had informed me of the pour weld condition from the the gas pedal bracket was installed. Said repair was in deed done by the shop with all new weld being done and adjusted. After looking online for gas pedal problems for these vehicles Ford needs to have a nationwide recall to repair or replace these before someone gets serious injury or even death from a accident.

My accelerator pedal bracket separated from the firewall, causing lack of throttle control. This bracket is spot welded, and Ford has a TSB regarding this item failure. I think this should be a recall.
My accelerator on a 2005 Ford Explorer stuck and caused me to have a car accident.
Loss of acceleration while traveling through an intersection due to the accelerator pedal bracket spot weld failure. Minor child was driving auto when the accelerator pedal fell over to its side. No power. Luckily was able to coast through intersection without being hit. My inspection revealed all three spot welds had failed. Further, the middle weld of the three was only about 1mm in diameter with the outermost two yielding a nugget size of approx. 5mm. The bracket spot welds failed due to the firewall sheet metal fatigue. The firewall sheetmetal completely pulled loose leaving three holes where the spot welds were. This area of workmanship is of concern to me as it endangered the lives of my children due to the vehicle loosing power in the middle of a busy intersection. The failure was reported to a customer service rep with Ford but the only response I received was that I would be responsible for any repairs since the auto was out of the warranty period. Cost was not my concern, giving notice of what is clearly a safety matter was my concern. I was informed that no current bulletins or recalls existed for the described problem. I feel there should be. These welds should never fail. My background? I am a welding specialist for a major automotive manufacturer in the u. S. I do have supporting photos of the failed spot welds.

I have a 99 Ford Explorer 4wd, eddie bauer edition. From time to time, the throttle will stick , especially when its cold. I can't replicate the stick reliably. When it sticks, I have to press extra hard on the throttle, resulted burst acceleration that could cause potential accident with the vehicle in front of me. I have to be extra careful when that happen when driving into my garage, which I always afraid that my Explorer would run into the wall. Contacted Ford dealer to see if there's any recall, they said they wanted $99 for the diagnostic but no guarantee. Ford said they had similar case, but it was on other models and not willing to go further unless I pay the $99. 95 diagnostic fee. Like I mentioned before, I can't replicate the sticking throttle reliably, therefore the $99 diagnostic fee will go to waste because the Ford dealer would sure tell me there's no problem with throttle. Please let me/us (Ford Explorer driver) know if you have similar complaints filed in your database and what actions you are taking to resolve this issue. Thank you.
While turning into a parking space and braking, my vehicle experienced a surge in acceleration that the braking could not control. Vehicle was going approximately 5 mph. In an attempt to avoid a concrete abutment, the passenger front fender clipped the driver rear fender of another vehicle. When I questioned Ford about problem, they said they had no recalls and I should get it looked at. The problem has yet to be determined.

The dealership replaced the computer chip and an air filter piece. It still stalled. The dealership could not duplicate the problem. The first incident occurred on 8-19-05. There were no lights that come on prior to stalling. The rpms dropped dramatically before this happened. This did happen only when she took foot off of the accelerator. She did not qualify for the lemon law because of the mileage on the car, 25,500 miles. The miles the first time this happened the mileage was 23,800. Driving on the garden state parkway with husband, myself and 21 month baby in car, passing vehicle, when put foot on brake slowed down then when let off brake, car accelerated to a high speed, applied brake 2 more times, both times, slowed down but when took foot off brake the vehicle accelerated to high speeds without ever touching the gas pedal, resulted in a spin-out on the garden state parkway stopping short of crashing into another vehichle. Thank god no one was hurt. Called Ford consumer relations, was told to take to a dealer for diagnostic test. Took car the next day to a Ford dealer in cape may court house new jersey, said nothing was wrong with car.
