At highway speed of approximately 65 mph, I applied the accelorator and it stuck in the increased acceleration position. After a few frantic seconds (10 - 15 approx), I managed to release it by kicking it. At the time, I felt that it was possible that the floormat or carpeting may have been involved in the problem, but was not sure. I have not taken it to a shop because of that uncertainty. However, the current odi investigation convinced me of the strong possibility that this is a manufacturing defect.

When going down the road the accelerator fell off the firewall of the vehicle. When having it repaired by the dealership they had made a comment saying they had seen that before. They drilled bolted the firewall and attached it with bolts instead of spot welding it.

While pulling into parking space vehicle accelarated and crashed through wall of a doctors office. Vehicle stopped after shifting into park and front end was inside building. Had vehicle towed to dealer for inspection. Found throttle body sticking which made gas pedal stick causing engine to accelarate out of control. Dealer filed claim with Ford. Still waiting for Ford to respond.
Vehicle is a 2002 Ford eddie bauer Explorer. Vehicle was driving on expressway when will changing lanes to pass a slower moving vehicle, our vehicle began to uncontrollibly excellerate and continue to excellerate pushing the car toward speeds in excess of 70 miles per hour. Engine continued to race. An emergency stopping of the vehilce was brought under control after putting car into neutral, applying brakes and getting off of the road. The vehicle had to be towed to westfiled Ford dealer ship where they are inspecting the throddle and other parts estimated cost to repair $400. Have not picked up vehicle yet for full description of problem.
On Wednesday December 29th, 2004, at approximately 3:30pm I was traveling south on rt. 9w in my 1996 Ford Explorer XLT. The weather was clear, approximately 35-40f, and the roads were clear of snow and ice. I passed a car going 35mph in a 55 mph area, and my Explorer stuck going at 3000r pms and accelerating. I tried to brake but my Explorer would not decelerate. I put on my hazards, put both of my feet on the brake pedals pushing as hard as I could and still could not control the vehicle. I ended up trying to pull into an empty parking lot, it still would not slow down so I turned the ignition off and ended up going through the parking lot and crashing down a 10 feet. Embankment. Both air bags deployed, vehicle was totaled. Transported to hospital by ambulance for observation and released.
The consumer came to a stop at a red light. When he pulled off, the accelerator pedal jammed down to the floor. The consumer had to physically pull the gas pedal up with hands.
The accelerator pedal separated from the floor on my Explorer. The car would only idle. I was able to pull over. I re-bolted the bracket to the floor after visiting the dealer. It appears two spot welds broke.
Consumer stated when brakes were applied vehicle accelerated. As a result, consumer's vehicle rear ended another vehicle.

Traveling home on highway 509 around 3:00 pm in my 1996 Ford Explorer, conditions were clear and dry, passed a car going 40 mph in a 55mph zone, upon passing the accelerator went straight to the floor and stuck there. Tried to place my foot under the pedal to lift up, could'nt. SUV steadilygaining speed, las time I glanced down I was going approx. 95mph, tried to apply brakes to slow down enough so I could get on the shoulder of the road safley,SUV went off the road did a flip in mid air rolled hitting on the passenger side and came to rest on drivers side. Air bags did not deploy, engine was still running wide open, managed to somehow reach the ignition key to turn engine off, it took fire rescue 35 minuters to cut me out of the SUV,I was taken to the hospital with minor injuries,as of 12/10/04 I am still going through therapy with my neck and shoulders, SUV was a total loss. Had to purchase a new automobile.
At a stop light, in slow moving, stop and go traffic, my 2002 Ford Explorer accelerated when I applied the brakes (speed at the time I applied brakes was under 5 miles per hour). The throttle was obviously engaged, a loud whining noise came from the engine. I put the car in park and shut off the engine to get it to stop moving. This vehicle virtually accelerated while the brakes were applied to the floor! I hit the car in front of me, who hit the car in front of her. All three cars were damaged and all three drivers have been treated for injuries. The Explorer is in the dealership now being repaired. I am concerned that a mechanic may not know enough about this to diagnosis the problem correctly. The vehicle is not safe to drive because of this problem.
The bracket holding the foot accelerator pedal on my 1996 Ford Explorer broke off while driving the vehile. As a result of this failure I lost complete control of the ability to add fuel to the engine and accelerate or hold speed. The bracket appeared to have been welded to the firewall as part of the manufacturing process. All 3 welds broke. At the time I was not doing anything out of the ordinary and had not put any abnormal strain or pressure on the foot feed pedal or the bracket. There is no appearance of corrosion so I suspect the welds failed farily recently. If this failure had occured as I was pulling into or accross traffic a serious accident could have resulted.
The consumer states that on 2002 Ford Explorer the throttle stuck. He had a hard time stopping the vehicle in a work zone. Consumer applied the brake extremely hard and put the parking brake on and engine continued to roar. Dealership stated that he had never heard of this happening. This occurred in September 2, 2004, and has not happened since. He read an article in the July 13, 2005 washington post stating that other consumers were having a similar problem. When he started vehicle again the roar stopped, and he pushed on the throttle, which caused it to operate again. Consumer had left foot on the brake and tapped the accelerator.
The consumerthat the accelerator pedal came off of the fire wall, when he attempted to accelerate. The bracket came off. Provide further details.
The accelerator pedal bracket suddenly broke as a result of flimsy craftsmanship. The metal bracket is attached to the metal body of the vehicle by 3 thin pegs (they snapped at the base of the bracket) and glue! (it's obvious it's the faulty manufacture's work, and never messed with previously. ) this defect could potentially cause you to be stranded (no acceleration) possibly on the highway making it a dangerous situation. I experienced loss of control with the acceleration and a sudden acceleration which nearly caused a crash. I'm attempting to consult with galpin Ford of van nuys, CA currently to repair the problem, but am experiencing lack of communication. 1998 Ford Explorer-eddie bauer v-6 sohc(?) vehicle wall accelerator pedal bracket. ! ___/ ! ---! ! ---! * ! ---!___.
While driving 50 mph accelerator pedal fell off. As a result, consumer lost control of the vehicle. No impact reported.
While pulling out into traffic, accelerator pedal broke away from the firewall. Was able to roll over to shoulder. I was able to reach under the dash and pulled on the pedal to drive. Apparently the welds (3) failed (tore out). I repaired it by drilling out holes and screwing the bracket back to the firewall.
I was parking in an underground garage at jefferson/woodward in detroit. I was traveling about 5-7 mph looking for a parking spot. I found and spot and began to turn into it. When I turned my wheel, my truck immediately accelerated and wouldn't stop even though I put my foot on the break. I jumped a curb and hit a brick wall. My vehicle is currently being repaired at ed schmid Ford in ferndale. My major concern is that my insurance premium may increase because this accident is viewed at and at fault accident. Ford is going to send someone out to check out my 2004 Ford Explorer to see if there was a problem with the accelerator.
Two different times, both stopping at a traffic light, the accelerator kept going. Stomped on the brake as hard as possible, finally had to turn off the key. Took the 2002 Ford Explorer to the dealership and they could not find anything wrong.
While driving at 45 mph accelerator pedal bracket came detached, causing the accelerator to hang freely and fell off, and became lodged under the brake pedal. This caused a loss of control, almost resulting in a collision. Dealer notified.

Weld that mounts the bracket that holds the accelerator pedal assembly to the firewall failed. This allowed the accelerator pedal assembly and bracket to fall to the car floor while driving and almost caused an accident. Dealer welded the bracket back to the firewall at considerable expense to myself.
Accelerator pedal bracket came un-welded causing the accelerator to hang freely causing a loss of control over the vehicles speed almost resulting in a collision.
While driving at about 40 mph, the accelerator pedal detached from the floor. It looks like the spot welds broke. I managed to coast the card to a save stop but this could have have caused an accident in a different location.
My 1998 Ford Explorer ltd's gas pedal assembly separated from the vehicle's firewall. This almost caused accidents, and endangered our family. This $39,000 vehicle I purchased based on its safety and ratings has proven otherwise, as this is the most recent in this vehicle's faliures.
The contact stated the accelerator pedal failed to release when completely depressed. The vehicle has been seen by the dealer on one occasion. The vehicle was only test driven. No diagnostic test was performed. The dealer was unable to duplicate the problem therefore, no repairs were made. Updated 01/11/06.
While driving at 40 mph gas pedal disconnected from the floor. Consumer coasted to the shoulder to assess the problem. Vehicle was able to make it to a friend's house. Aaa was called to evaluate the problem, and found that the weld connection from the pedal to the floor broke.
On 8/3/2003, accelerator pedal separated while driving. On 8/4/2003, consumer screwed the pedal down to get the vehicle to the dealer. Dealer is currently repairing the vehicle.
1999 Ford Explorer - gas pedal separates from the firewall. When driving I noticed that the gas pedal kept getting lower to the ground. I pulled over and found that the rivets which hold the gas pedal into the firewall had become seperated and my gas pedal assembly was lying on the floor.
Gas pedal and the mounting bracket fell off. Dealer stated there was not defect report, therefore, we can't fix it.
While driving at 30mph on a busy road suddenly accelerator pedal went down to the floor . Dealer found that pedal mountain attachment was broken.
The consumer placed the vehicle in reverse and attempted to step on the gas pedal and it had gone to the floor. (throttle body stickage) the throttle body and gasket was replaced. The dealer was notified.
When driving at any speed and pressing on gas pedal there was a loud thumping sound coming from the engine. When the vehicle heated up there was a strong sulfur odor. Dealer and manufacturer have been informed of this problem.
Well driving my 1998 Ford Explorer gas pedal completely fell off the firewall/floorboard. The two spot wields broke nearly, causing vehicle to crash. I was able to safely moving my vehicle to the side of the road, but was almost rear-ended by a big rig.
When the consumer attempted to accelerate, the throttle became stuck in the idle position.
