2004 Ford Explorer experiencing problems with acceleration. The throttle response surges at low speeds. Ford issued actions to be taken to reflash the accelerator control but it did not fix the problem. This was a dangerous surge that accelerates 3-5 mph from speeds between 10 to 15 mph with a dead spot proceeding the surge.

When I am trying to put the Explorer into park I have a hard time. It takes me several minutes and much frustration to get it into park. It seems to be getting worse, harder to get into park. This could be a safety issue.
The throttle continued to stick, which caused the vehicle to lunge forward. The dealer stated that the throttle linkages must be replaced. Ford will not cover the part unless the part is broken. The throttle would stick going forward and backward from the stopped position. Scc.

Critical defect in the throttle linkage/cruise controls 2000 Explorer. In two incidents involving the same conditions:
1) truck , when cruise control engaged, suddenly accellerated to speeds in excess of 90 mph, on icy and snowy interstate (January 2003), between nashiville and cincinnati, ohio. 2) truck , when cruise control engaged, suddenly accellerated to exces of 90 mph, on dry interstate (71) between cincinnati, ohio and columbus ohio. In both occurrences, truck totally non-responsive to braking attempts, to the extent that drivers stood on the brakes to attempt disengagement of cruise control. All other attempts at turning off also ineffective (switches non-responsive as well). Brakes have been substantially damaged. Drivers both maintain that accelleration happened without warning and only disengagement of the transmission (neutral) ceased accelleration. The rpm of the engine continued to maintain 4,000+ rpm and only could the engine be disengaged when vehicle was steered into soft ground to be slowed. This problem is repetitive and extremely dangerous as is, but egregious when mixed with icy/snowy conditions. Ford delaership non-responsive to greater issue; attempting to shif liability on drivers and expecting repairs to be shouldered by drivers/owners. Drivers maintain good driving records and now believe this problem to be life-threatening. Drivers have also noted multiple other consumers with same exact problem and are aware of recalls involving this same type of problem in other Ford products.

Consumer states while driving the accelerator pedel sticks causing the vehicle to surge forward. Ph.
The throttle cable on our Explorer snapped when the car was being put on cruise control; the car accelerated to 75 mph. Our 19 yr. Old daughter put both feet on the brakes but could only get the car down to 55 mph. She was weaving in and out of traffic on the dulles access rd but was able to grab her cell phone and call 911. They asked her if she could get over to the right side of the road (which she managed to do) and told her to put the car in neutral. She followed their instructions and was able to roll to a stop without hitting any one or anything. . . A miracle. No one was injured. The car suffered $3500 worth of damage. Ford has said that they are not responsible for this.
While driving the car accellerated out of control. My brakes & other componants broke in my attempts to stop. Luckily I did not crash, flip or run someone over as it took several miles to stop. I was towed to freedom Ford in beacon, NY where they found that the Ford air filter broke and wedged the accelerator linkage causing the car to go out of control. I incurred brake damage, towing, travel expenses, and subsequent throddle repairs done at pleasantville Ford in pleasantville, NY.
While driving took foot off accelerator to slow down and car started to accelerate, then once gas pedal got stuck. Consumer had to manually pull it back up.
Consume r was traveling about 65mph on highway and vehicle started speeding up to 75/to 80mph . He reached over and pulled accellerator pad to stop vehicle. Dealership was aware of problem.
Consumer was traveling about 30mph on highway and pressed the accerlerator pedal, and car accelerated into full speed after he took foot vehicle off accelerator pedal. Then, he shifted into neutral, and engine r. P. M. Increased up in high speed. He turned vehicle off.
While going up a hill gas pedal dropped to floor, consumer tried to get pedal up, it was like gas pedal was stuck to the floor, the only way consumer could stop was to turn off vehicle. Consumer felt as if she was going down a hill there would have been an accident.
