Sept 31st - with 358 miles and less than owned for 24 hours all adaptive equipment failed, flashing abs failure loss of speed control. Oct 1st – car taken to jclewis Ford in savanah,GA, was called by the dealer approximately 3 hours later and was told to pick the car and the only problem was to realign and reset computer software. I took the car and drove 39 miles and we sustained a total repeat of the problems. At this point the dealership said they had no idea at point what was wrong or the cause of the problem, approximately five days later I was told the cause was the failure of the rear abs wheel sensor which they told me was replaced and also that they had driven the car for few days and it was now operational. I did pick up the car and again within a few miles we sustained the same failure with an added feature I backed out of my parking space and found that I had lost any ability to move forward and there was a severe grinding noise emanating from transmission, drove the back to dealer ship for the fourth time and was told that even though I was told that the Ford dealer mechanic did not replace any parts as I was told. As of today sept 18th the car is still with the dealer and was told that in fact replaced the left abs wheel sensor but they said that in fact was not the problem and that it still existed. I was told that they were think it is being caused by some type of short in a wire harness but they still are awaiting parts. I have requested a meeting with a Ford representative but I was told by the service manager that he could not arrange a meeting. I was told by a Ford representative I believe detroit that I should look at the back of the owner’s manual for advice on the lemon law.

A follow up on a CO problem, that happened on 7/7/15. Dealer took the Explorer in on the CO issue along with Ford knowing of it. Gave us a rental for a week, and came up with no CO levels after a week. Went to the dealership to take a ride with the service manager, exhaust was present but he said it was a hot engine smell. No levels where found but symptoms in my body of CO where indicated while the service manager was in the vehicle. Left the vehicle for the day and was told by Ford the service manager found nothing wrong and to come get the vehicle. Upon the ride home my CO detector indicated levels at 534ppm. With the windows down and the sun roof open at 70mph. Along the way I stopped in the local hospital, waited an hour in a half for blood work then walked out. Had to get back to work. Only 15 minutes back home the levels went up to 871ppm. Calling the dealership and Ford in the am to get this problem solved ASAP before some dies. 2015 with only 4,500 miles. Ford has known of this problem since 2011.

Exhaust is entering the passenger compartment through the front and rear air conditioning vents when the engine is accelerated to 3500 rpm or above. I noticed this condition while driving around town, when passing another car or accelerating to enter the freeway, but the problem was really evident on a recent driving vacation from kansas city to seattle wa. We went through several mountainous states and it was terrible, the car was constantly accelerating above 3500 rpm to maintain speed on up hill grades, the car constantly reeked of exhaust. We had to roll the windows down to keep it aired out. I took the car to my Ford dealer when I returned from the trip, they said there is no problem. I am not going to argue with Ford over this,I have purchased a carbon monoxide meter which I keep in the car and have recorded carbon monoxide in the cabin as high as 15 ppm during acceleration. This car needs to be recalled,I have read that I am not alone, this problem exists on Ford Explorers manufactured from 2011 - 2015. Why ?.

There is a foul smell in the vehicle, maybe burning plastic on the vehicle or exhaust. The fumes gets inside the vehicle that can make it unbearable when you have the ac on. You can not stay in the car. The ac has to be turn off and all windows open in order to continue driving. I brought the vehicle back to the dealership for service, last year. The service representative informed me that it was a plastic bag that got stuck in the exhaust. Once its burned off the smell will be gone. However. It does not seem to be the case. The foul smell is getting worse that its unbearable to stay in the vehicle with the ac on.
Rear end of car thumped every time you would go over the smallest separation in the road and also on a bumpy road. Replaced rear end shocks. Still have the same problem of thumping. Some times it feels like I'm going to loose the rear end of the vehicle. I was told possibly now that back bushings holding the body to the frame may be desenegrated. Vehicle has always been well maintained and garaged. I have found out that there have been many complaints about this occuring now with this 2001 model. You would think there would be a safety recall by Ford to fix these bushing problems.

Ford Explorer eddie bauer - garage kept, low miles due to working from home. Discovered a crack in the back hatch upper panel. When reported to insurance company (progressive) the agent indicated that this is a known defect and all Ford dealers are aware of it. I discovered other Ford Explorers and expeditions around the county with the same crack. Crack is caused by lack of stabilization behind the panel and the crack appears due to regular closing of the back hatch. Starts with a single crack (can lead to multiple cracks). The crack allows water to enter the back hatch area causing rust and disabling or limiting the back window wiper. I wrote a letter to Ford and emailed them regarding this manufacturing defect and was told that this is not something they take care of. Cost to repair can run anywhere from $275 to $1,000, depending upon the severity. We have started a facebook page for those of us around the country that have experienced the same problem and our number is growing every day. Problem seems to be 2002 thru 2006 Ford Explorers and expeditions. Ford has changed the manufacturing for the years following.

Driver side hinge disconnected, the bolt was missing. The shifting, unbalance weight weight caused passenger side hinge to crack. The window fell striking the back of the head of the owner, unlocking and reaching in to the cargo space. A small child was with her who could have been seriously injured,. Had this top of the liftgate fallen off in traffic it would have caused seriouc injurie and car damage. Many complaints of this manufacturing defect have been filed and recalls were in effect for other model years.
My panoramic sunroof exploded!! I was sitting in my vehicle, parked in the driveway and heard a loud noise. I got out and checked the tires and around my vehicle. I saw nothing unusual so I got back in, turned the air off and that's when I discovered it was the sunroof. I heard crackling of glass. Got back out and stepped in the back passenger door and looked on top - it had cracked in the shape of an x with a small pop up right in the center. It was obvious that nothing had hit the glass because I was parked in my driveway and the glass was pushed upward instead of inward. I took numerous pictures of the vehicle sitting in my driveway right after this happened. Drove it to the nearest dealership, within a half hour, as per the service mgr. For pre approval of warranty coverage. It was denied twice. Ford's response for denial of warranty coverage : " as per section 3 of the warranty and policy manual, damaged glass (stone chips, scratches, etc. ) is not considered a warrantable condition unless as related to another defective component. The loud noise as described by the customer has generally been found to be the time in which the glass is impacted in other similar cases. The point of impact to the glass is the place in which the glass is broken and bowed upward (bow upward due to interior cabin pressure is slightly greater than ambient pressure when windows are up and the hvac system is running. ) unfortunately, this broken glass is considered to be damage that can not be covered under the new vehicle warranty at this time. " 23 days later. . . My $40k vehicle is still damaged and sitting in my garage b/c this is an ongoing issue with these panoramic sunroofs exploding. Ford can not keep up with the demand for replacement glass. I pray someone, especially a child is not injured or even worse killed by this defect.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the vehicle independently engaged the brakes. The vehicle was designed with a unique braking program designed to engage with the cruise control when the vehicle was approaching a second vehicle. The system engaged despite there not being a vehicle in front of the contact?s vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed there was no remedy for the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 14,000 and the current mileage was 28,000. . . . Updated 12-24-13 the consumer stated the adaptive cruise control worked fine when he was following a vehicle in his lane. However, when he was in a separate lane, passing a large semi with large bright aluminum or light colored sides, on a straight highway without curves, the vehicle occasionally applied the brakes as if he were following in the same lane as the truck. The consumer believed the radar sensors on the vehicle were reflecting from the large bright sides on some trucks.

Tl- the contact owns a 2003 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that the hinges on the back lift gate fractured and allowed the glass to become disengaged. The vehicle could not be driven. The dealer was notified and informed the contact that there were no recalls on his vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who stated that the vehicle had been repaired under the recall NHTSA campaign id number: 04v442000 (structure:body:hatchback/liftgate:hinge and attachments) 8 years prior and provided no other assistance. The failure and current mileage was 130,000. Pmb.

I bought a new 2012 Ford Explorer on 11/26/11. The "my touch" computer didn't work from the begining. The response is slow or non-existent. The screens change on their own. The system freezes up at times leaving no control over nav, stereo, climate, phone, or either of 2 dashboard screens. It will switch to radio and play really loud and then switch back on it's own. Ford knows of this problem and can't fix it. They've had my car 3 times and now refuse to see me more about this. They say a fix will come in the future. Many people are having this problem. Ford is selling broken cars, charging new car prices, and can't fix them.
More like adaptive 'curse' control. My 2011 Explorer limited 4x4 with the adaptive cruise always catches the rear of semi trucks in other lanes, causing it to apply full brakes and people behind me almost crash into me. My 2011 limited is totally factory original, no tow bars. Here in California the semi truck speed is 55 while autos can go 65-70mph (and in most cases everyone goes 80+). So when I'm going along at 65-70 with no vehicles head of me in my lane and the thing goes 100% brakes I almost crash. I also get the cruise control totally disabled because of an error in the sync modules. The sync computer modules control the adaptive cruise, stability control, back up detection system, auto wipers, auto parking system, traction control, 4x4 system, etc, etc. I fear that the srs is also tied into these same sync computer modules. Ford claims the sync system automatically resets/reboots itself every 24 hours while the vehicle is off to avoid system outages. What happens most of the time is the system will run (even though the screen is off) for about a week until, while driving, the sync computer crashes just like home computers & cell phones do if left on continuously. While this crash is taking place the touch screen freezes, music playing will stop, or change volume, or change track, or change source; wipers will stop working, cruise control will shut off, backup camera system goes down or screen freezes while backing up, 4x4 is disabled, center displays will go blank. My 2011 Explorer has been in the Ford service dept for sync module replacement and reprogramming 4 times now since Jan 2011. Still no fix.
