1 Air Conditioner problem of the 2011 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

Letter from re few defects in my 2011 Ford Explorer remain after the dealers repeated repair attempts. These issues distract me while driving and it is a concern to my safety as well the consumer stated the main issue was the steering; the steering wheel was not straight and when driving, the vehicle pulled in the opposite direction. The shift increased when increasing speed. Also, the a/c unit changed temperatures by itself. The brake warning light illuminated and the touch and sync did not work. The consumer believed the software needed to be updated as his phone and or mp3 player kept getting disconnected. When using the sync service to request directions it kept misinterpreting the commands, as well as disconnecting when downloading a route. On one occasions, the entire system failed and the screen went blank.

3 Air Conditioner problem of the 2006 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 09/13/2009

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that since the vehicle was purchased the air conditioner has malfunctioned. The gear shift also moved out of park own its own. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer. The dealer confirmed that there was a recall associated with her VIN for the gear shift and made the necessary repairs. Whenever the vehicle shifts gears on its own it would lunge forward and a metal odor was within the vehicle. The dealer informed the contact that the transmission needed to be replaced. The contact stated also stated that the vehicle was very unsafe to drive. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 54,730.

4 Air Conditioner problem of the 1999 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 01/26/2009

Noise on the driver's side of car was slight upon purchase. Second day I returned to dealer. Dealer refused to take the car back. . Dealer told me to take the car to their repair shop. Repair company stated it was air conditioner and to unhook air-conditioner. I refused. Later the tire blew out and I replaced the tire. A few months later the shifting of the cat into park and reverse began to become difficult. I ended up stranded on the highway. The car had a gas tank problem as well; as if the car may have been in an accident. I am having the dmv check into this matter as the car had to be towed and the company still wants an unreasonable amount to be paid to them, while other dealers state it was only worth $1,000 and on "its last leg". I purchased the car last February for $5,000.

5 Air Conditioner problem of the 2006 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 08/02/2008

Ac problem- I bought my 06 eddie bauer Explorer with a little over 5000 miles. The ac was making a screeching noise then. Took my SUV back to the dealer where it was purchased, they stated they ran the ac for 15-20 mins. And did not hear the noise. Now according to the service shop where my SUV has been for 3 weeks, my ac (compressor) completely fell apart. Not only that, the parts are on back order. I hardly ever use my ac. If I did, I guess it would of fell apart sooner. Anyhow, my SUV is only a 2006 and as I said I hardly ever use the ac. Not only that, the parts are on back order. Which means I am not the only one having this problem. Ford needs to issue a recall.

6 Air Conditioner problem of the 2006 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 05/09/2008

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that when she turned her heat on in the vehicle it went from hot air to cold. She tried several times to turn it on and off hoping to reset it, but only cold air would come through the vents. Once the car was parked she noticed a leak from under the car. She took the vehicle to a local mechanic and they diagnosed the problem as a radiator leak. She then contacted the dealerships and informed them of the problem, they informed her that the part was on back order and if she repaired it at any local mechanic it would void the warranty. The dealer advised her not to drive the car, it is parked and has not been repaired at this time. The failure mileage 50,000 and current mileage was 51,000.

7 Air Conditioner problem of the 2004 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 02/02/2008

While going to open the rear hatch of my 2004 Ford Explorer, I noticed a crack in the hatch door from just below the window down to the next panel. When I opened the window on the hatch door, I noticed that the left hinge that holds the glass is coming loose. I am unable to utilize the rear cargo area of my vehicle now for fear that the left hinge will break off resulting in the entire door coming off the vehicle and falling or dropping onto me or one of my children, causing severe personal injuries. The mileage on my vehicle is approximately 70,000 miles. Nothing has been done yet to correct this failure because after reading other people's experience with having Ford refuse to acknowledge the problem and the government thus far refusing to issue a recall, my hands are tied. I do not want to pay for the repair myself because I have already been burned by Ford on other issues relating to this vehicle, I. E. , the abs module and the air conditioning system.

8 Air Conditioner problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 01/01/2008

We own a 2002 Ford Explorer that we purchased used with 40,000 miles on it. Since purchase we have had 3 power window motors go bad, both rear bearings replaced, the back door panel is cracked, the a/c doesn't work, and now it looks as if the transmission is going bad. If so many people with this vehicle have all the same problems how can there be no recall?.

9 Air Conditioner problem of the 2006 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 07/12/2007

I have a 2006 Ford Explorer that the air conditioner quit working. It had only 5,700 miles on it. I was told that the "o" rings on the ac compressor were leaking. Having the ac go out on a new vehicle with such low miles makes you think about the quality (or lack of) in this vehicle.

10 Air Conditioner problem of the 1998 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 05/14/2007

The air conditioning system was leaking in the 1998 Explorer, and the accumulator was rusted very badly so that it too may have leaks in it. Ford needed to recall these units, and replace the rusted accumulator.

11 Air Conditioner problem of the 2003 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 08/12/2006

4 items 1 - have owned the 2003 Ford Explorer for 7 months. While test driving, I noticed a hum noise coming from rear tires. Was told it was tread noise. We took it for oil change at very well respected national automotive service shop. I was informed I needed to replace the rear hub assembly that is was critically broken. Waiting to contact local Ford dealer for resolution based on TSB research I have done. 2 - whining noise from air conditioner when accelerating. Don't really know what is going on. Saw this also on TSB. Contacting local Ford dealership. 3 - abs light randomly comes on. Don't know why and no pattern to when. Contacting local Ford dealership. 4 - cruise control not working. I was driving down the road this weekend, using cruise control. Stopped quickly for a car in front of me. When I started going again, the cruise control wouldn't work and hasn't worked since then. I don't know if it has to do with the brakes. I noticed Ford recalled some cruise control mechanisms in other vehicles but not in the 2003 Explorer.

12 Air Conditioner problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 07/23/2006

Bought 2002 Explorer in 2003 with 12,000 miles. Servicng dealer replaced transmission and torque converter under warranty @ 32,000 miles after o/d light started flashing. Now needs another transmission @ 54,000 miles. Car has always been serviced, driven lightly, never towed, never abused. Dealer will not pay or help out one bit. Ford knows 2002 Explorers have defective transmissions and rear ends, is ignoring problem, leaving consumer to absorb cost! have also had to replace timing chain tensioner, rear windshield wiper assembly, air conditioning unit under warranty. Front and rear wheel bearings needed replacing- out of warranty. Rear end is making classic "humming" sound that Ford is also ignoring-pinion gears.

13 Air Conditioner problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 05/17/2006

Horrible whining noise coming from rear differential of my 2002 Ford Explorer limited edition. Replaced twice already and now it's whining louder and louder everyday. I refuse to pay for the same repair a 3rd time. I have read many complaints on the web about this problem, along with many other similar complaints. Other popular defects for the new Ford Explorer are cracked rear coil over springs, along with transmission and a/c problems, etc, etc. How many more complaints is it going to take before Ford stands up to their design flaws. . . ????.

14 Air Conditioner problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 08/09/2005

While driving down the road the air conditioner quit working. I heard the coolant and compressor still working, but no fan blower on levels 1,2 and 3 level 4 still worked luckily. I also have a howling sound coming from the rear end under light acceleration and hard shifting when accelerating and letting off of the gas during a shift. The air conditioner was caused by a faulty resistor, the rest has yet to be determined. I notice a number of complaints on this site for the same symptoms, a recall should be issued.

15 Air Conditioner problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 07/05/2005

I brought truck on 02/27/2004. The salesman at bill heard Chevrolet made me sign some papers. In two weeks I had to go back to sign some more papers because they said they had made a mistake. They told me that I would finish paying for the car in three years the cost was supposedly $24,000. In two weeks after that I started having transmission problems. I told the dealership but they didn't want to fixed the problem so I had to pay out of my own money to fix the problem. After that they put an insurance on the truck which brought my payment to $518. 00. My air conditioner didn't function since I brought it. My car has no direction at all. Also, when I run the truck more than 65 mph it just starts shaking. In three months after I brought the car I read the papers and realize that the truck did not cost 24,000 like they had told me it actually cost 37,000.

16 Air Conditioner problem of the 2004 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 06/01/2004

Air conditioner and defroster are moldy, causing illness.

17 Air Conditioner problem of the 2003 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 04/15/2004

While driving/idling heat would be coming out of the air conditioner (a/c) vents on the driver's side. This problem caused third degree burns to the consumer's right leg. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

18 Air Conditioner problem of the 1998 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 03/01/2004

The air conditioner in my 1998 Ford Explorer gradually did not operate properly. At this time, it is not cooling at all. Today (June 12, 2004), I read about problems with the a/c accumulator. I pealed back part of the "thermal blanket" wrapped around the accumulator, and found it to be rusted. The ac has not been cooling in about 2-3 months, but it is most inconvenient and dangerous now with the summer heat in full force.

19 Air Conditioner problem of the 1997 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 11/28/2003

The dial that controls the hot/cold feature of the heating/air-conditioning unit in my 1997 Explorer malfunctioned. When taken in to dealer the service manager told me that they have been seeing alot of this problem in Explorers and the service technician said he was concerned with it happening in his mother's car.

20 Air Conditioner problem of the 1997 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 11/14/2003

Cannot adjust the temperature of the heating and cooling system - always blows cold air. I have been told the manufacturer installed the wrong parts at time of production. The part fails and then you cannot adjust the temperature - it always blows cold air. This, it seems to me, is a serious safety issue as it is impossible to keep windows clear in cold climates.

21 Air Conditioner problem of the 2003 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 08/01/2003

The consumer complained of noise coming from the air conditioner.

22 Air Conditioner problem of the 1997 Ford Explorer

On my new Ford Explorer, there is a air conditioner leak is letting 134a gas into the ozone layer. 134a pisses out of the a/c system everytime I use the air conditioner unit.

24 Air Conditioner problem of the 1998 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 11/02/2002

The automatic temperature control fails to adjust the temperature of the cabin. Only the max a/c condition will blow cold air, while any other setting blows very hot air regardless of the outside or inside air temperature. The dealer diagnosis was to replace the plemun chamber and actuator + freon, which results in a $1,200 repair. This appears to be a defective design issue that should be addressed by the manufacturer as the vehicle is less than 5 years old. Dt.

25 Air Conditioner problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 09/17/2002

Consumer states of having problems with the air conditioner. Dealer was contacted. Mr.

26 Air Conditioner problem of the 1997 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 08/24/2002

No summary listed for this vehicle.

27 Air Conditioner problem of the 1998 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 07/25/2002

Air conditioner mode will cool great in max a/c mode but not in all other modes. The hot air only comes out. I also as a result of this have had the thermostat read hot unless I turn on the vent, which also turns out hot air. I went to the dealer who says it is the plenum, a door in the air conditioner. It is a common problem that is in alot of 98 Explorers from what I see on the internet. This is a manufacturers defect and should be recalled to fix. If there has been a recall, I haven't heard anything or told about it when I went to my local Ford dealer.

28 Air Conditioner problem of the 1997 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 06/12/2002

The ac accumulator has rusted through. The accumulator has a thermal wrap-around blanket and evidently excess moisture is trapped between it and the all-steel accumulator. Removing it easily exposes the rust.

29 Air Conditioner problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 06/09/2002

Consumer stated that every time he cuts on the air condition, it blows out a bad smell. Ph.

30 Air Conditioner problem of the 1997 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 04/01/2002

A/c was blowing warm air. Ford dealership said accumulator was rusted and needed to be replaced (quoted $895). This part rusts because it is wrapped in foam. It appears to be a common problem with 1996-1998 Explorers. The 1999 and later models do not have the wrapping on the accumulator.

31 Air Conditioner problem of the 1997 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 02/01/2002

A/c quit working, went to have it serviced. The a/c accumulator has rust holes in it . The foam around it kept the accumulator wet and caused it to rust through. Letting out the freon. What if all Explorer's do this ? if I had known the day it was bought. It was going to do this , I would have pulled the foam off. It rusted because of the way Ford wrapped it. This should be a recall. Just look at all the freon that is going to be lost in the air. Thank you for your time and intrest ; tim cargle.

32 Air Conditioner problem of the 2001 Ford Explorer

The temperature control does not control the temperature of the a/c-heater that results in a failure to defog/defrost the windshield.

35 Air Conditioner problem of the 1999 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 09/20/2001

On September 20, 2002, the air conditioning ceased working and froze the environmental controls on full heat. The controls had been set to heat in the morning but switched to air-conditioning in the afternoon.
