As I was driving the Explorer the cross traffic alert sensors went hayware, then the navigator, radio, hvac, and everything else froze did commands on its own. The part assist mode came on it own, steering wheel controls would not work and car started to take control. Very scary as the car was taking commands I could not control. Took it to the local Ford dealer where it was determined to be the accessory protocol interface module (apim). My vehicle is just out of warranty and Ford motor company would not help. Very dangerous, cost me $1,200. Ford had this same problem on earlier models and recalled, but not on mine. This failure need to be addressed and if not fixed could lead to a serious accident. Ford needs to issue a recall. Ford was no help to me, very disappoint in Ford and their neglect to mine and my families stafey.

Started the Ford and the backup camera was not functioning. Also noticed the 'sync' screen was blank, climate controls were not visible (functioning) as well as the radio system was not functioning. Went out and started the SUV in my driveway, everything was correct when I returned home the night before.

The drivers side door does not 'close' properly, the 'door ajar' sign is consistently on even though the actual door is closed. When you get in/out of the car, you have to shut the door multiple times for it to recognize the door is closed. Many times I have to slam it so hard, I'm afraid I'll break the door. The car doors won't lock, cause it doesn't recognize that the door is 'closed'. The keyless entry alarm will randomly go off, while we're in the house, cause the car all the sudden says the 'door is ajar'. This can be hazardous as I drive as the doors won't lock and we have young children in the car. This also eats away at the battery life, cause the car electrical system is on (interior dome lights, electrical radio panel) since the door is considered open (with the door ajar sign). This has been ongoing for about 6-9 months now.

There is a leak on the drivers side of the car in the front and now there is standing water on the floor that leaks through when there is a rainstorm. There is also a significant leak where the lights are by the moon roof . The water is saturating the ceiling and drips on the radio and other parts of the car. The sunroof no longer works. This happens every time it rains and when it is stationary. The ceiling lights will fill up with water and drip as well. Since there is no heat on the passenger side of the car I am unable to clear the windshield of any fog which is very dangerous. There are forums on this all over the internet and I know 2 other people who have the same problems with their Fords.

This dealing with the my sync (myford touch) . The system will will cause the screen to go black,it also will cause the a/c & heater, navigation, and radio to stop working. This happens while the vehicle is moving. To restore the system you have to pull over and reboot the system by turning off the vehicle. I just recieved a customer satisfaction program alert for Ford on 5/25/2019. Dealer will not repair because they clam that the program has expired. But I can have the repair done for the cost $1200. 00.

I noticed the outside trim around the sides of the windshield appeared loose on the driver but mostly passenger side of my car. A few weeks later when I started driving over 10 mph down the road, I heard a noise like something beating against my windshield. I noticed the rubber seal around the windshield and between the trim and the windshield had come off and was flapping in the wind against my windshield and car. The body trim is now loose as well. I had a little water even leak into the car. It was very distracting and almost caused my wreck. I had to temporarily tape the rubber trim down as it keeps coming loose and gets worse as you drive (which you have no choice when you are not close to home or can't get your vehicle in for repairs until weeks later).

Dash/speedometer went black - heat and air system inoperable - no turn signals - power decreased and power steering not fully functioning. All of this happened when I placed the car in park and realized the radio and interior lights were not automatically shutting off so I restarted the car and still nothing. Dealership recommended disconnecting the battery - this did fix part of the problems but the synch health report is still not showing completlely clear and the check engine light came on then went off after driving a few miles . Concerned if it is safe to drive especially if this is a possible electrical problem - car is just at 23k miles and also had to have throttle body replaced at aroud only 3k miles. Not feling safe in the car at this point.

Car has smelled awful since leasing. Being gassed with carbon monoxide every time I drive it. Took in for recall to varsity Lincoln. They did not address it. Drove car to frankenmuth for thanksgiving dinner 1 1/2 hour ride. Something popped and the most awful gas smell came out and never went away everybody around us could smell it. Dropped it off at tom holzer Ford. They addressed the recall and smell by putting adshesive (tape) and sealant (glue) called and told it it was ready. The smell was not gone took it back 4 days later. Was told the transfer case blew and they would need it for a few days to fix it. Pick up car still smelled awful. Went up north last week. Three hour ride. The first hour I had the back windows open as always cause I know I am being poisoned. The next two hours were pouring rain could no longer drive with windows open. Stopped for gas and groceries. Got out of Explorer and was dizzy, nauseated and my heart hurt couldn't think of what groceries I needed clerk asked if I was ok. Told him not sure what was wrong with me figured it out I was poisoned carbon monoxide.
The electronic screen that controls radio, environmental systems, navigation, shuts down frequently while the vehicle is in motion, or motor is running.
My blutooth pairing with iphone was compromised by someone other then me. It wouldnt let me listen to blu tooth on my phone. When it did let me listen the music that once sounded good now no matter what I did it sounded horrible. Another thing I noticed was the performance seemed to be greatly increased with poor mpg and then after awhile and still is this way there is a lack of performance and the motor has a completely weird sound since this started happening. I forgot to mention I had previosly had my phone connected thru the sync app and it had some nice features I was using until all this unexplainable things started happening. Once I noticed the volume on the radio was all the way up the next time I had entered my vehicle. And it seemed like in 2017 it would only happen when I was not far from my house and as time went on it seemed like they could change settings no matter where I was. I would program sync settings and before you know it sync is doing excatly what I had turned off. There was a couple other things I wrote down back when they happened that I need to find and then I can report back.
10/04/2016 my touch screen froze. I have no control of the heating and cooling in the back 2 rows of seats. Navigation, radio, sirius, and more do not work. The vehicle was being driven on a city street when everything froze. Car is still under warranty. A replacement screen was ordered but has been on back order for almost 4 weeks contacted Ford customer service twice but they will not help. My delorship carlsbad Ford said they can not get any information on the delay.

I just bought my vehicle on 5/17/20 at a lot called grant motors 2744 fowler st fort myers FL, 33901 during the daytime, they keep pushing , and pushing me to buy it took my id to copy we left without my id, had another vehicle I wanted to buy but had to go back to grant to get id, when pete started at us again and keep coming down on price, till my brother told me it was worth it to buy it, so I did, well during the day in bright sunshine you couldn't see the taillights, nor the dashboard lights, and as driving it home turned on radio to listen to it , all's it would do is flicker, wouldn't change stations, wouldn't do nothing at all, and they put a carfax folder on my dash for me to read at home , that is when I seen the info about the recalls and figured it had something to do with my lights outside and in the dash and the stereo not working at all. Them my brother said he wondered why they continued to drop the price to way more then they first asked for as if they new ahead of time the issues and didn't tell us about any of it. So could someone please let me know what is going on , I now have nothing to drive and no money to buy another I'm old raising two grandbabies one with autism , the other with bipolar please help me out. Sitting in walmart parking lot, and in motion to go home family had to stay behind me to get home safely,.

When I attempted to start my Ford Explorer by turning the key it wouldn't start it would make a slight buzz but that was it, so I got one of the mechanic to assist me at my job. He told me the battery was good, because the lights and radio was working. So he started the SUV by putting the key in the start position and placing a screwdriver across this one part mounted under the hood on the driver side I was then able to drive home. When my husband returned from out town I told him about the situation and he attempted to start the Explorer and the same thing occurred, so he started it the same way that the mechanic did. However; this time he wasn't able to turn the ignition off. The key just turns a full 360 degree in the chamber and makes no connection with anything. He end up disconnecting the battery to turn off the Explorer. This is an 1996 eddie bauer edition. Has anyone else had this problem. If so how did you fix it and the cost? please report the situation to NHTSA.

After entering a highway my horn honked and the message "no key detected" appeared. The vehicle never died but this has happened over a dozen times. I have had it in the shop, where the same concern was duplicated, and was told that it is some sort of interference with the radio frequency of the keys, they said that anything from phones to charges could cause this and that it is normal and I would have to live with it. On 1/17/13 and again on 2/11/13 after pushing the button to turn the car off the auxillary power came on. I was told this is okay and that the power would eventually turn itself off. 5/16/2013 this was the second time I noticed that my radio had shut itself off. I turned the car on and the radio was off, I know I did not turn this off when I turned the car off.

The display on my Ford Explorer radio quit working, the radio/cd/tape all is working properly, but the display light is gone. After informing my mechanic, I was directed to a specialty shop, that works on radios for vehicles. Three seconds into my phone call with them, they let me know they work on up to five Ford Explorers a day, for this same problem. They said it would cost $125. 00 to fix this, they also said Ford was aware of this problem and has issued a kit to "fix" these radios. This to me should be a recall. But, as I was informed this "problem" is not a danger to the consumer, so we should pay out of our pockets. I've never experienced any problems like this before, and maybe I'm informing the wrong people. If so, please direct me in the right direction with this complaint. Thank you for your time.

The radio display has gone out on my 1999 Ford Explorer mach stereo system. (it's been out for about a year. ) the radio still plays but the display is unreadable. This is a known issue and very common problem that has been reported at the internet newsgroup rec. Autos. Makers. Ford. Explorer. Ford claims the fix is replacing the radio at a cost of $600. The radio works fine except for the display therefore an entire radio replacement at $600 is needless and wasteful. As a known defect, shouldn't this be covered above and beyond the warranty period?.

Far left dash lights and lights behind indicators on left side of steering wheel went out shortly after receiving the vehicle in 1998; this was repaired under warranty; the lights went out again sometime after the warranty period expired. The sound system amplifier goes out intermittently with no discernible cause; this has gone on for years; the dealer says it would cost over $600 to replace the amplifier.

1996 Ford Explorer eddie bauer - cd changer, cd player fault.
My vehicles' oem radio display has shorted out after only 4 years of light use. I know this has been an ongoing problem with the particular radios in 1997-2001 models of the Explorer. The unit also heats cd's to high temperatures, making me think that it either will catch the vehicle on fire, or melt a cd. I have tried contacting my dealer for a solution, Ford for a solution, and even pioneer electronics, the manufacturer of the unit for a solution. None of these entities were able to find an acceptable solution to the problem. They all stated it was the other's issue. I am actually considering a class-action lawsuit against Ford regarding this issue.
Recently purchased 2000 Explorer XLT. Radio light goes on/off intermittently, sometimes not working for hours! also, when cds are ejected, they are hot to the touch.
The information for the radio was visible at times and sometimes it was not visible.
When I bought my 2000 Ford Explorer XLT 4dr the radio display on the mach rds cd/tape radio did not light up. The dealer said he fixed it and indeed it worked for about five minutes after I drove off his lot. I did some research into this problem and have discovered that it is a common problem with this type of oem radio. . Read more...
Radio led display does not work the majority of the time.
My Explorer's radio and clock were intermittently shutting off, no they are completely out. Took into dealer who seemed quite familiar with the problem, but was unwilling to fix it. Gave me the number of some radio repair shop. I didn't go. Seems like this is a common defect that Ford should fix at no cost. Anything I can do?.
Radio lights and clock just went out-will come on when cold---many people are experiencing same problem --Ford says replace radio--for $650. People have done this and still have it go out again--radio lights and interior lights should work for more than 2 years.
An electrical short in wiring of radio had caused a fire under the dash while parked. Dealer and manufacturer were notified.

Radio display goes out. Cannot see the clock or radio selection. This has been vary dangerious in the winter during early morning driving when I cannot see my watch and travel through school zones and I don't know if the zone is active or not. The radio was replaced once under warranty and has since gone out again.
Radio lights go out intermittently. Vehicle not taken to dealer yet.
