My radio lost all the lights to it. . The display lights for the radio no longer works. Apparently Ford knew of this defect as hundreds of owners complained as early as 2001 (one year after the car was sold). I complained and they said I would have to pay for a new radio. Seems they should have replaced the radio back when they saw the problem in 2001 while still under warranty.

The cds in the single cd player heat up to where it is hot to touch. This could be a fire hazard. The outside of the cd/radio unit is also hot. I was told by Ford that this was common. The advisor at Ford said he has a 2000 Ford truck and his wife a 1998 mustang that does the same thing. I noted this on my 30000 mile service and Ford did not even look at the problem. It was dismissed and not even noted on my repair record/invoice. Also, the rear windshield wiper motor has been replaced for the second time. In fact, I only used it once or twice after the first time it was replaced. .
Pe00020, orginial equipment with 1999 Ford Explorer, tire size p23575r15. While driving the front end shakes very hard, and on all tires there are lumps forming and making a whistling noise. Brakes were pulsating, dealer machined the front rotors. There was a delay in starting the vehicle, dealer stated this was normal. Radio had no display lights, dealer installed a new radio. The rear brake light burnt out, dealer replaced the bulb. The parking brake sometimes would not release, dealer could not duplicate the problem. The check engine light illuminated. The rear wiper was not cleaning, dealer replaced the wiper arm and blade.

I own two Fords; a 1999 ranger XLT ext. Cab and a 1999 Explorer - eddie bauer. Both are equipped with a cd/cassette/am-fm radio combination. The display lights on both radios units do not work. The internet is full of other owners with the same complaint. My mechanic said it was a manufacturer defect. I called a Ford dealer and was told that when these units were produced, the defect existed. It is in the way the wiring was soldered in. Why has this not been recalled? Ford will fix it for 400. 00!! they should have never sold this item as an option and certainly should be held accountable. Strict liability! they knew the problem existed yet continued to install these defective units.
There are already 4-5 things wrong with this brand new vehicle. I had to have the cd replaced, the driver's side was making noise due to lack of lubrication, the cruise control was recalled, and the part has still not come in as promised, the window seal keep coming off, the heating system is too hot at low setting and too cold at low setting. Ak.
Radios do not operate properly, steerig wheel when go over a bump it swing left/ right.
Brake lights do not stay on when brakes are applied. Lights come on, but go back out while brakes are still being applied. Dealer has seen vehicle, and said that it is normal. Brake switch has been replaced 6 times and power booster has been replaced with no remedies, brake pedal makes a popping noise when released. Message center, miles per gallon, is inaccurate and has been replaced, however consumer states it still does not work. Rear suspension squeaks and groans over bumps, consumer states there is too much roll stiffness built into suspension, alignment checked and toe set due to vehicle wandering. Water leaks inside door frames. Automatic transmission is reluctant to downshift unless the accelerator is pressed flat to the floor. Inside rear view mirrow mounted too low. Consumer states squeaks and rattles show up all the time in the interior of the vehicle, rattles in dash, drivers door area, and b pillar. Cd changer jammed twice. Limited emblem replaced twice. Speedometer reads too fast.
Stereo reciever failed.
Cd's become very hot, removal causes rapidmovement as if hand will burn. Could cause a fire or accident.
Started to eject cd. The cd had overheated & melted cd. A design flaw. Called manufacturer. & dealer. Mechanic heard of overheated cd player. Checked out electrical system & could not locate problem.
I have the 6 disc changer 91p eddie bauer radio with controls on the steering wheel. At times, when I use the controls on the steering wheel to turn up the volume, the volume shoots all the way up and I have to use the knob on the radio to turn the volume down. Another problem is the radio stations lock up. The radio gets "locked up" and I have to turn it off and then back on to clear the problem. The dealer has had the truck at least 4 times and can't duplicate the problem. It is a random problem. The servicing dealer is kings Ford at 9555 kings automall drive cincinnati OH 45249 513-697-2414. They act like they don't care since they can't duplicate the problem.
