36 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2012 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 12/07/2017

The airbag light is on. It does not flash it's just on all the time. I took the vehicle in for an oil change and asked the Ford dealership to check it out and they said they did not have time and when I asked if it was covered they said I would have to pay for it. I called the Ford dealership today and asked about bringing it in and eric again said I would have to pay for it and he knows nothing about a recall or any problems with the air bags. I have read online that there are over 850,000 Fords who have a recall due to the airbags malfunctioning. I am also told that the airbag will not deploy. This is my only transportation and I feel this is very dangerous. I will never buy another Ford again. The customer service is horrible.

37 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2013 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 08/31/2017

I was driving on a residential street approximately two minutes from my home to run an errand. I was using the hands-free device on my phone as per texas law. There is one way each way with a yellow double line divider and many people park on the side to check mail walk dogs etc. So I tend to drive so that I won't hit those individuals. The road is curvy and I noticed that I was starting to veer off into the grass and I tried to steer back left and press my brakes at which time I realized that my brakes were not working and I could not get back on the road. I then ran over a fire hydrant which did not decelerate my car nor did it deploy my airbag; continuing to depress the brakes I am then hit a large light post which continued to not decelerate the car and not cause any airbag to deploy, and I still could not turn my wheel to the left (or to the to the roadway); there was a large delivery truck waiting to get into the gated community on the right-hand side and I ran into that vehicle stopping my car and totaling it where are the complete front end of my car was completely destroyed (pushed in) yet my airbags did not deploy. I was going to posted speed of 35 mph as I always do. My car had recently been inspected as required by the state because it is out for renewal in August 2017. I bought the car less than three years ago as a Ford certified used car with a 10 year 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty on it. It had less than 67,000 miles on it at the time of the incident. If the truck had not been there to stop my car, there is no other obstruction other then a major highway and I probably would not have survived.

38 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2012 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 08/11/2017

On 3 separate occasions over the last 3 years the airbag warning indicator light on the dash has come on, for no apparent reason. On each occasion I have taken the vehicle to my local Ford service center where they finally determined that the solution was to apply some dielectric grease to the electric connectors under the drivers seat. This fix was covered under my extended warranty on the first 2 occasions on the 3rd they agreed to apply the grease at no cost to me. My service center has told me that when this problem occurs the airbag will not deploy. Wondering why something as important as an airbag has loose connectors which hang down under the drivers seat, seems like a design flaw? why is there no recall to permanently fix this issue.

39 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 1998 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 07/19/2017

My seat belt on my passenger side does not work half the time. My door locks do not work right. I can't get my window on the driver side to go up and down. I hit a tree going 55 miles an hour in my airbag did not even deploy. I'm lucky I'm still alive. The fenders rubbing up against my tire. Speed control is wrong. Whenever I'm going 55 miles an hour it says 57 actually I don't remember the correct date. But I'm sure it shows I know it was 2017. Somebody ran me off the road. My truck hit the tree and my airbag did not deploy. I'm lucky it didn't I guess because don't airbags have metal shards in them is what I was told.

43 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2014 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 07/07/2017

The airbag warning light have been coming on intermittently. The car has been in the shop several times for the problem and Ford had been unable to identify the cause. On November 27, 2017, a Ford dealership identified that the car had a defective airbag restraint control module. The car has 60,472 miles. The warranty expired at 60,000. Ford has not offered to extend any sort of warranty relief even though the car is 472 miles outside of the warranty. My husband was in a front-end collision in July 2017. Although the car that he hit was totalled, the airbags in our Ford did not deploy, a fact that shocked many people considering the damage to the other car. I am shocked that when the car was in the Ford dealership after the accident that they did not work to explain the airbag failure.

44 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2012 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 10/01/2016

My air bag light is on and won't turn. What I have read is once it on the airbags will not deploy I'm case of an accident. Ford know about this problem and is not trying to fix this is very unacceptable for such an expensive vehicle.

On may 31st 2016,I was involve in an automobile accident and at which time my airbag did not deploy. . After further evaluation it was determine that my clock spring was bad. . My insurance estimator/or adjuster stated that the cause of the malfunction was not a result from the accident. . Then I was told to contact the NHTSA to see if my vehicle was under a recall for this incident . . . . My vehicle was in motion on a highway.

49 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2011 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 05/24/2016

This is the fourth time that the airbag light came on. This is a safety issue that Ford has not address this as a recall. Ford needs to think that in case of an accident the airbag may not deploy. Like if a safety belt dont work then it is a safety issue and it should be a lifetime warranty. Takata airbag issue the airbag works but can kill you and when airbags does not work it can kill also. So why does not Ford issue a safety recall on their vehicles specially 2011-2015 Ford Explorers.

50 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 05/06/2016

Both side air bags deployed driving on interstate at 55 mph with no apparent cause. The car was not involved in an accident and there was no other damage to the vehicle. The front air bags did not deploy. I was able to get to the shoulder of the freeway and called roadside assistance to have the care towed. The explosion was quite traumatic and it took me several seconds to realize just what had happened.

51 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2013 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 03/23/2016

I was standing at a red light and was rear ended by a speeding driver. I was catapulted into the truck standing in front of me. The front end of the car was totaled, as well as the frame bent from the rear; where I was hit originally only milliseconds before. I bought the vehicle because of the air bag protection, no airbags deployed. A fireman on scene commented that he could not believe that the airbags did not deploy. My vehicle is in the police impound lot, because of an accident resulting in injuries. I have since shown the pictures to several people, even mechanics; and they have all stated that there is something wrong with the airbags, since they did not deploy. The insurance company is demanding that I release the vehicle to them immediately.

53 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2004 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 01/28/2016

Takata recall I was traveling home on a local city street. I was coming to an intersection with cars stopped at the traffic light. I had to have been going no more than 35 mph at the most when the "side" airbags deployed. The drivers and dash airbags did not deploy. Only the four side airbags deploy. The road was smooth and not bumpy. I did not hit the brakes hard. I did not hit anything nor did anything hit me. I do not know what caused them to deploy. No accident happened because of the deployment because I was not traveling at a speed that would cause an accident. I have made calls to Ford and my VIN number is not one listed for the recall at this time.

54 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2011 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 01/15/2016

Air bag light was coming on. Was told that the seat belt pretensioner is bad. Was quoted $450 to repair. After refusing to have the work done I went online to see if anyone else is having the same problem. Many owners have complained on Explorerforum. Com some have suggested that I have the connections checked under the seat and I have now found there is a service bulletin on this issue. My dealer never suggested trying to grease the connections, this is an issue that Ford should have made their owners aware of, since while the light is on my airbag will not deploy if I am involved in an accident.

56 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2012 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 12/01/2015

Vehicle has an illuminated airbag service light supposedly due to a malfunction in to electrical connections of the airbag system or a faulty drivers seatbelt tensioner. Apparently this will result in the airbag not deploying during a crash. Ford dealers have serviced other parties Explorer's with the issue by checking electrical connections and adding dielectric grease or by replacing the driver's seatbelt tensioner. This repairs usually result in upwards on 5 hours of labor plus parts which the owners were charged. These fixes are only temporary as the problem typically returns. This is a safety issue resulting from poor manufacturing or installation of parts and numerous Explorers manufactured between 2012 and 2016 are experiencing it. Owners should not be charged for the incompetence of manufacturing processes or lack of planning especially when the problem is safety related.
