I received my 2020 Ford Explorer back from the dealership on 01/23/2021, after it had been at the dealership since 12/22/2020 for an "overheating" issue, which turned out to be a module and sensor issue. While driving last night I received a warning for a "powertrain malfunction". I was able to get home with no issue by driving slowly. I parked the car overnight and checked the status this morning, 01/24/2021, in order to call roadside assistance and let them know what the current issue is. When I started the car I received warnings for "pre-collision assist" not available, "hill descent control" fault, "hill start assist" warning, and "anti-lock brake" fault. I attempted to move the vehicle in my driveway to make it easier to load on a tow truck, and I had almost no braking power. I had to put the vehicle in park to stop it from rolling down my driveway. This will be the third time in a month that the vehicle has to be towed to the dealership for a major issue that has left me stranded. This vehicle has 7,393 miles and was purchased 04/2020.

The brakes locked up, steering wheel locked, gas locked, all sensors went haywire and I slid off my driveway and into the woods thankfully avoiding collision on my property. Dealership could not duplicate the issue. I was leaving my house on my driveway when it happened.
The vechile abs brake system is not working. My new car has been increasing speed on its own. The agency has not been able to provide a resolution and warning sensor goes off that the brake system is not working. This happened from one day to the next, the truck is left in clean garage and minimally driven. This makes the truck unsafe. I have contacted Ford multiple times but they end y call without a resolution.
This truck has had issues since I bought it like 5 months ago from carmax within that time I really only had it a month rest of time it has been in the shop I bought with 26k miles from carmax already had rebuilt engine breaks roaders still have engine issues now today belt broke and needs to be towed I should not have to have do many issues with a new truck not mention if you do not shut the trunk hard it will drain the battery since it keeps the lights on in the truck already had to replace the battery. This truck has been a lemon since day one and should have never been sold I feel this truck is not reliable and unsafe at times. Not worth the 26000 I paid for it. Plus the sensors go off for no reason and nothing is around.

Several times the reverse camera and sensor have not worked (blue screen) one of the times almost hitting a car behind me, once the center screen went black while driving while using the navigation system, this morning, put the transmission in reverse and the brake pedal became really hard when stepping on it and again almost hit a car behind me, suddenly it went to the floor causing the car to stop suddenly all this while getting out of a parking space.
Starting about the beginning of July my new 2020 Explorer st started slamming on the brakes in reverse, with no objects near by. Then it started throwing a fault for the reverse braking system. I have had the vehicle back to the dealer 3 times for the same issue. After the second time it had more fault codes for hill assist, forward collision, and advanced trac. After the third time at dealer they assured me the issue was fixed. Needless to say it is having the issues again. I have also had the check engine light come on and they determined the temp sensor needed to be replaced. The flex pipe is making a horrible noise as well and the solution was to put a clamp on it and the sound is much better but still there! this vehicle seems to be a lemon.
Big concern with my power train. The back of the car has a loud whirring noise when traveling on the highway and clicks loudly when you slow down. Going a faster speed seems to sound better but its pretty scary. The check engine light comes on and stays on. There also is a sensor that needs to be replaced and I don't know its name. . The brakes have been checked out and rendered passable but I fear that I will not be able to stop sometimes. It feels unstable. I am elderly and need a stable car to drive.

While I was driving on the interstate, in the left most lane, there was road on the side of the road sighted ahead that was extending into the left lane I was traveling in. To avoid the upcoming lane infringement, I needed to accelerate to change lanes to the right of me. I had plenty of room to execute evasive maneuvers; the 2020 Explorer st however, did not allow me to change lanes and instead applied the brakes and froze my ability to steer - almost causing an accident. This has happened twice on the interstate. I took the vehicle to Ford - no explanation/cannot find a problem. The vehicle also unexpectedly breaks when nothing is near it. This also happens in reverse. The car will not let me reverse out of my garage - nothing is anywhere near it!!! I have to turn the car off and restart it to clear its sensors. Nothing is there!!! I have had the car about 7 months and only have about 2000 miles on the car. I'm afraid to drive it and want to return it. The sensors are obviously malfunctioning. The vehicle will not remember seat settings or mirror settings. It also inadvertently changes the seat location while going from park to drive or sitting at a light and pushes it all the way forward ramming my knees/legs into the dash. . . . It will not stop going forward unless I turn the vehicle completely off. This is definitely a malfunction. I have taken it to Ford dealer service - they cannot find a problem.
The vehicle is randomly braking for no unknown reason. Almost like if I was driving and put on emergency brake. It mostly does it while in reverse when there is literally nothing around me. There is an option and it has still does it with option off. It has nearly caused 1 accident when I was in my sons car pool line at school. Otherwise it has caused extreme anxiety because I don't know when it will happen. The brake assist fault is also on, and dealer cannot find fix to that either. The dealer (capital Ford raleigh) was aware of sensor issues, as well as faults the day I took delivery on vehicle. They knowingly sold it to us anyways. I took vehicle to service dept the very day after we took delivery. There is no fix for these dangerous issues, and I am forced to keep driving with my kids in this dangerous vehicle.
I was driving my 2011 Ford Explorer (65,000 miles) when I suddenly lost all power to my gas, break and steering wheel. Luckily I was going close to 10-15 miles per hour and I managed to veer onto someone's lawn and hit the emergency break. I was told that there was oil leaking into the engine that cause a complete engine failure. No sensors went off prior to the incident and I have only gotten my car repaired at the Ford dealership.

I was driving my 2015 Explorer about 55 mph, coming up to a driveway I needed to turn into a few hundred feet away. Suddenly the car lurched and warning signals popped up on my dash. It alerted me my collision warning sensors failed and service advance trac. I attempted to brake and slow down for my trim and realized I had lost power brakes as well as power steering in my attempt to turn into the driveway. I narrowly missed hitting a tree while making the turn into the driveway. I coasted to a stop and immediately ran a vehicle diagnosis. It suggest I shut the vehicle off and turn it back on to see if the codes cleared. When I turned the vehicle on all warning were still displayed but brakes and steering returned. My local Ford was fairly close so my father in law attempted to drive it there and suddenly all codes cleared out of the vehicle.

The "door ajar" sensor on many Ford products is defective and causes the door ajar light to come on even when the doors are closed. This also causes the interior dome lights to remain on at night and will not allow the doors to be locked while operating the vehicle. It is dangerous not being able to lock the doors as children could open the doors accidentally and fall out. It is also dangerous having the interior dome lights remain on while driving at night. Ford knows about this problem as when I took the vehicle in for repairs, they acknowledged a service bulletin is available about the problem. Because of the safety issues involved, there should be a recall on the door ajar. Battery drains quickly after getting new on within a year. Brakes also continues squeaks after getting them fixed.

After having epas replaced (@hall Ford ellizabeth city, nc) under recall 15n01 after complete power steering failure. We began a 700 mi. Road trip home and began to experience spontaneous traction control interaction with our driving input which affected either power distribution to the axels, braking ability, and steering ability. After making it nearly 300 miles the electronic stability control completely went out along with what felt like abs control seemed like it intervened sporadically. We also recieved a dash prompt that the fuel filler inlet needed checked as well. Upon arrival to a Ford dealer along our route (sheehy Ford, warrenton, va) they pulled the codes listed and appeared to be a litany of codes nearly a page and a half long. They cleared the codes and drove the vehicle. After driving the vehicle around the block the traction control began to act intermittently without loss of traction. They came back and checked for error codes and the "steering position sensor was at fault" they went through re-calibrated the equipment installed and cleared out the codes and drove without any issues. We then continued on our remainder of our trip without any further issues. Upon arrival to our home destination the following day we began to again have traction control intervening with driver input when not needed where it appears to be shifting power from axle to axle or applying braking to aid in traction control. I have also noticed that that rear view camera displays the postion of the driver wheel in relation to the wheel path in reverse but appears intermittant as if there is a not a continuous connection with the sensor. Taking to our local Ford dealer here Monday 4-4-16 to have them thoroughly go through the vehicle but appears to continue to be an issue with the electronic power steering assist. All issues are present when traveling at speed and turning.
When applying full braking at a stop sign or red light the vehicle stops but the engine and transmission continue to race at full speed. The brake pulsates like the anti lock braking system is engaged. In order to get the vehicle back to normal the engine must be shut off or the transmission disengaged. It will then start up normally. We have had 11 occasions within the past 2 months where this has occurred, this has occurred when coming down from highway long distance driving and it has also happened on a parking lot very low speed. It is all I could do to press hard enough on the brakes to stop. The vehicle has been returned to the dealership, their diagnostics show nothing and the dealership states they must be able to experience the problem first (duplicate it). Ford motor company has been called the regional sales manager told me to take the vehicle to another Ford dealership to have them look at it. Mr. Mchale the manager at fmc (866-631-3788 ext. 77713) assigned a case number 7644437 to the problem but he also stated that they would have to duplicate the problem before it could be resolved. I told him if I misjudge or am unable to bring the vehicle to a stop that I may be pushing up daisies. They do not seem to understand the severity of the problem. It would seem to me that a mechanic would look for a sensor or switch that would disengage the trans mission when the brake was applied or a sensor or control that slows the engine. I am getting to the point I fear for my life driving this vehicle until it is repaired. I also mentioned that when I turn the vehicle off during the incident there is a lot of clunking from the engine and transmission, I am sure damage has been done to them.

My 2003 Ford Explorer has some serious electrical issues. My right front passenger window will not roll down. It gets very hot in my truck out in the heat. It stopped working all of a sudden and the a/c in the car does not blow. (I didn't break any of these things) my door ajar light is always on on the dash. . . My driver's door sensor went out for some reason and now my vehicle thinks that the door is always open, which drains my battery and my lights will not turn off at times. I have to manually turn them on/off. I dislike doing that because I'll forget sometimes. My rear lift-gate cracked one day too. I believe its from the cheap plastic. It's dangerous and my glass can fall out any day now. I also pinched two blood clots in my hand from opening this cracked rear hatch and had to see a doctor for it. I have had multiple electrical problems with this vehicle and safety issues. Electrical- audio output fails intermittently, power outlets short out, instrument cluster fails (while moving and in park) exhaust- fumes coming inside vehicle (in motion and park) brakes- had to have entire system replaced after complete failure of abs system (happened multiple times while in motion, once on expressway, all reported to Ford corporate) wheels - lug nuts have been reported multiple times for moisture collecting inside the lug nuts and causing corrosion seat belts - housing case of safety belts pop off idle - when idling with brake depressed and a door opened and closed the idle skips and makes noise washer fluid sensor - failed at 70, 000 miles ac system drains power horribly vehicle was leased January 2014 problems have been consisten since that date, all records are in Ford's system.
We were driving down the highway and we heard a clunk and so we pulled over right away and looked and thought it looked like the rear passenger side was sagging but wasnt sure, we drove home and then realized it was def sagging. I took it to the car lot I bought it at and their going to check it all out to see whats going on. . Just be looking at it the car lot mechanic said looks like suspension issue as if something broke. Also the check engine light came on and we had it checked out a few times and it appears to have O2 sensor issues located on the exhaust which seems to be a issues with alot of Ford Explorers which makes gas mileage terrible and vechile stalls out and dies, not to mention the piece of plastic under the rear hatch window that always breaks.

Air bag light has been on several times. Each time I have taken the vehicle in for service and they tell me each time they fixed it. I drive it some and the light comes back on. It is back in the shop for the tenth time I have paper trails and pictures to prove it. I ended up making an appointment the last time but before I got there I hit a deer end of March at 60 mph and the air bag didn't go off once the body work got done I took it into the Ford shop and they said there was a faulty sensor were the deer hit. They replaced it the I drove it eight miles and the light came back on so I turned around and they are telling me that there are no codes this time I have tried to get them to buy it back and they will not. The rear brakes have locked up four time and they have replace them each time and it continues to do the same with them also.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the vehicle independently engaged the brakes. The vehicle was designed with a unique braking program designed to engage with the cruise control when the vehicle was approaching a second vehicle. The system engaged despite there not being a vehicle in front of the contact?s vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed there was no remedy for the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 14,000 and the current mileage was 28,000. . . . Updated 12-24-13 the consumer stated the adaptive cruise control worked fine when he was following a vehicle in his lane. However, when he was in a separate lane, passing a large semi with large bright aluminum or light colored sides, on a straight highway without curves, the vehicle occasionally applied the brakes as if he were following in the same lane as the truck. The consumer believed the radar sensors on the vehicle were reflecting from the large bright sides on some trucks.

Was approaching a red light and applied pressure to brake pedal. The brake pedal has hard and wouldn't depress. The abs and traction control lights came on and the vehicle continued through the red light. Fortunately there was no one in front of me or any cross traffic. Releasing the brake pedal and reapplying with the abs and traction control lights on the vehicle was finally able to stop. Carefully drove the vehicle home and had it towed to the dealer the following morning. Dealer diagnosed it as the front hubs being defective. The hub bearings were so loose that the abs sensor and speed ring were not in close proximity to each other. Dealer replaced hubs and vehicle is now functioning properly.

The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph the abs brakes suddenly engaged causing the steering wheel to pull to the right and become difficult to maneuver. Exact dates are various , vehicle has 39000 miles on it presently , have multiple vehicles , drive over the road truck driver . . . Changed brakes and rotors twice , emergency brake not working , had fixed , had to have ekg replaced and some exhaust sensor , tires wore out at 29000 , exhaust system replaced , both ball joints replaced , pinion gear gasket leaking from rear end , both cv joints leaking , appears right cv joint needs replacing , gets 14 mpg ( 4. 0 liter ) paint peeling from roof for quite awhile now , rusting around fuel tank door , as all are . . . . . . Vehicle has been a nightmare , getting rid of this at 39000 miles , Ford has a better idea , buy another one !.

Repeated failure of abs system on 2002 Ford Explorer. Abs has been repaired 5 times since January 2002. Latest failure included water in rear differential with no know reason. Failure of abs has been rear sensor cable and once a computer module. Latest date shown.
When the vehicle was driven at low speeds, while braking, the abs sensor kicked in, causing a loss of brakes. Mr scc.
When applying brakes, not a panic stop, abs system activates, this increases the stopping distance by several feet. This happens intermittently and is getting more frequently, dealer inspected vehicle, and determined that front wheel sensor needed to be replaced.
On 12/4/01 traveling approximately 55 mph when I had to suddenly brake for a suddenly stopped car in front of me. I pressed the brake and no abs deployed thus causing me to hit the car in front of me at near full speed. Upon impact of my front end with rearend of other car, my truck sustained major damage to the entire front end, including fender, punctured radiator, compressed both side panels, folded hood. It was not driveable at the time of the accident and had to be towed. The anti-lock brakes did not work and no air bag was deployed. I have sustained physical injuries related to failure of these two safety devices. The mechanic states the airbag sensor was smashed in accident. The dealer states my brakes were fully functioning. After I received my repaired truck, the anti-lock brakes did not work. I brought it back to the dealer they said they did work, I must be mistaken. I picked the truck up and I suddenly had anti-lock brakes.
When applying brakes heard a grinding noise. Dealer replaced both front hubs and sensors. Consumer stated the front brake sensors are confused, they think they are on wet pavement, when really driving on dry pavement.

Brakes would make a groaning sound and pedal would vibrate when applying brakes. Vehicle was taken to dealer shop, and had both front caliper and pads replaced. But, still making noise. Vehicle was returned to dealer shop. Dealer informed consumer that abs sensor needed to be replaced. Seeking assistance from NHTSA, is it normal wear for this part to go out under 40,000 miles.
Consumer complaining about grinding noise and pulsing at the brake pedal. Dealership said that sensors are defective and needed replacement. Also, dealership added that it's a common problem on the particular model.
