My 2004 Ford Explorer has a crack on the rear window panel by the Ford emblem, its been this was for awhile, just Thursday night I noticed glass on the ground behind my vehicle then looked up and it was my back window. It shattered, the panel bowed out as if it warped outward and shattered the window. Luckily it had been parked and no one was around when it happened. As a result of this the entire lift gate and rear window will need to be replaced. I'm still waiting for my insurance to come and appraise the damages.

Rear panel on 2004 Ford Explorer is cracked. This happened in February of 2009. Nothing has been done to repair this due to the cost. This is a defect common to this model and should be repaired by Ford. This could cause shattering of glass window if it becomes loose.
This 2002 Ford Explorer has only 62,153 miles and the wheel assembly hubs have failed. The problem is in the design of this part because it has no axle and is assemble to the frame by three bolts. If this part goes bad on the interstate and the wheel will come off , god help the driver and the people on the same path. This SUV needs to be recall!.

On 10-14-2008, took vehicle in for routine nys veh inspection. Midas mech informed me that a 5 inch piece snapped off at the bottom of the pass side rear coil spring . You could see that the coil spring wasn't seated right anymore. Vehicle mileage was approx 66,400. Never used off road. Mech informed me that 2002 Ford Explorers are notorious for defective wheel hubs (which is true because I recently just replaced both about 1000 mi ago at $1400) and for the strut coil over springs snapping. Enough already!! when will the gov make Ford own up to design and safety failures !!!??? I could have been traveling on the highway when this coil spring piece snapped off and could have punctured the tire or the brake line or the fuel tank!!.
On August 8, 2008 I opened the back glass of my 2004 Ford Explorer at which time the bracket at the top of the glass broke loose causing my glass to fall. It hit me in the head when it fell and would have possibly fell on me if the other bracket had not stayed in place. I contact Ford motor company but have been unable to determine what model years of the Ford Explorer were recalled previously for this same problem. My Explorer was not covered under the recall but I believe it should have been as Ford installed faulty brackets on my truck. Currently my husband purchased a "recall kit" from Ford to correct their faulty equipment and is in the process of trying to fix my back glass so that my vehicle is drivable again.
Lift gate frame cracks right in the middle. I was told by cortese Ford in rochester that they have seen several Ford Explorers with this defect and they believe it ha something to do with how the frame is put together.
Just happen don't no why the bottom frame of the lift gate has two cracks and im afraid that one of these days the glass may fall off the frame and cause an accident, thanks hope we get help with this problem.
According to my mechanic "the caged nut broke from 8 an inch bolt with washers on the rear end" he had never seen anything like it before.
I am the owner of a 2002 Explorer that for a year started with a squeak noise coming from the chassis supports. Every time that I took my vehicle for an oil change to the dealer I complain about this problem, and it was always mentioned to me that this type of car do not have any lub points for the chassis supports. They could not find the squeak noise from where it was coming. The squeak noise started to be so bad, that I went underneath the car and found by myself from where the noise was coming. The chassis supports parts of the back were replaced. The same squeak noise started to happen on the front end and parts were changed. Well surprise, I got my car after repair and after checking it one more time by rocking the vehicle there still a squeak noise coming from the front area. Imagine that this a common problem on this Explorer 2002 fleet, I had a '98 Explorer that never developed this problem.
The contact owns a 2001 Ford Explorer. The contact was driving approximately 20 mph and encountered bumps in the road. The vehicle exhibited a loud rattling noise coming from the rear end of the vehicle. The failure occurred whenever traveling over bumps or uneven road surfaces. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the technician informed that the failure was related to the rear internal panel. The front and rear shocks were replaced. The contact stated the vehicle had been taken to the dealer on numerous occasions for the identical failure which there were no resolutions. The failure continued to occur. The failure mileage was approximately 6,000. The VIN was unavailable.
Support frame that holds car together on front of vehicle was severely cracked. Consumer took vehicle to dealer, and they were not going to do anything. Consumer felt that the entire front end of vehicle could fall off. Then, car would flip over, and passenger could be injured or killed. Vehicle was rolling death trap. Frame should never break, it could be bent, but not broken. Please provide any further information.

Noticed the back panel of my 05 Explorer was deeply cracked. Did some research to find that this is a defect of many Explorers. I don't have to money to fix it and shouldn't have to since I did nothing wrong.

As reported on 9/5/00 (before the tire recall hearings on 9/6/00) to senators richard shelby and frank lautenberg and house representatves w. J. "billy" tauzin and fred upton: I recently read in the times that the Explorer tire that blows out most often is the rear driver side tire, which makes me wonder if there is a design defect in the vehicle. Upon closely examining my 96 Explorer (which didn't come with firestone tires, by the way), I found that the body leans to the left (driver's side), resulting in a vertical sag of about half an inch on that side. I confirmed that the sag is not related to vehicle loading - the sag persists with both vehicle and gas tank empty; or to weakened springs - the chasis stays level, only the body sags. Also, the vehicle has not been in any accidents that could have caused this. Since then, over the last couple of weeks or so, I have been closely observing Explorers and other SUV's on the road and in parking lots. The results of my admittedly not-so-scientific survey are as follows: (1) about 50% of the older Explorers on the road show a similar sag to the left. (2) none of the Explorer's observed showed a sag to the right. (3) less than 5% of the other SUV's observed showed any sag, which was equally likely to be to the left or to the right. I thought I should pass on this information to you, for whatever it is worth, before the tire recall hearings in the senate tomorrow. Sincerely, ramesh dhingra.
The number three body mount located in the cab of the vehicle has cracked throw the metal which causes the body to be disconnected from the frame of the vehicle. The manufacturer has a service bulletin 122-25 for this part, but the repair solution dose not fix the problem per consumer. Please provide more details. Ts.
