I purchased a new 2017 Ford Explorer in July of 2017. It is just passed 3 years old and has just over 60,000 miles. I took the vehicle to licardi Ford in watchung, NJ to have them look and advise on paint that is bubbling on the front hood. After review they told me it was not covered under warranty since the 3 year, 36k mile has passed. I was also told the 5 year/unlimited mileage corrosion (perforation only) would not apply either. I was told the corrosion warranty would only apply if the corrosion would create a hole. Afterwards I called Ford customer service (case # cas27269387) and would be told the same as I mentioned above from the dealership. After further investigation on my part, I found there have been class action suits filed against Ford for this very issue. Those complaints show that Ford has been aware of such issue and has done little to correct. Furthermore, it is written that the hoods of the Ford Explorers are made of aluminum and would never rust through to create a hole therefore making the 5 year/unlimited mileage corrosion warranty next to useless. I feel this has been an ongoing issue that Ford is well aware of and should have changed its practices and methods to avoid future incidents. The bubbling paint may be small now but will only grow and eventually crack and peel off negatively impacting the look and resale value of my vehicle. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer to get my car repaired and/or hold Ford accountable for their negligence. These defects are small and were probably forming long before I was able to see them for myself.
First complaint is the paint is peeling and bubbles from the front of hood. This was fixed by Ford 1 year ago and told was not sure why this was happening. Now again all along hood at front same problems. Second complaint. The rear tires are wearing at the outside and inside of tread. The drivers side seems to be worse. It needs tires now due to safety concerns that I know have. The vehicle seems to be unsteady at grade changes in roadway especially on the freeway.
The paint is starting to bubble in several spots on the front edge of the hood. I see no rust of any kind just bubbling paint. I meticulously care for this car regular wash and waxes.

The door, windshield, and external window seals are rapidly deteriorating, the paint on the car hood is blistering and about to peel off like paint did on cars several ago, leaving bare metal visible underneath.
2013 Ford Explorer with hood paint bubbling and peeling. I notice a while back and thought it was just a rock that hit the hood. Now it peeling really bad and cracking and peeling. There needs to be a recall cause so many clients are having the same issue.

Paint on the hood is bubbling, steering feels lose, and the instrument panel cracked do to cold temp. . . . Contacted Ford they dia ot help or did not car.
I am writing this letter in regards to my 2013 Ford Explorer XLT. I've noticed a fast acting paint flaw that is growing in criticality, and is growing increasingly frustrating each day! when I purchased the vehicle, this was not recognizable to the eye obviously, as I wouldn't have purchased the vehicle otherwise. Currently, the paint is bubbling up around the entire edge of the hood. On 7/14 one of those bubbles of paint flaked off, which will now lead to other major issues with the paint and look of, not only the hood, but essentially the entire car. At this point I've been forced to discontinue taking this vehicle through the car wash (touch or no touch), as more paint will flake off. Not only that, I avoid the areas when I wash and wax the vehicle by hand. If what Ford's slogan rings true (built Ford tough), then I must say, that I'm perfectly fine with doing business elsewhere, as this paint job is far from tough, it's rough! I pride myself in being a hard working consumer, and when I take the plunge to spend this amount of money to purchase a product, I want to step back and be proud of it, and the hard work that it took to be in a position to make this kind of purchasing decision. I would also expect a sense of pride from the company's perspective to stand by your product, and that is precisely why I'm writing this complaint letter.
Steering is hard to steer. Feels like you have no power steering. Doesn't happen all the time just when you turn the steering wheel when driving slow. Also paint on the hood peeling off. Took to a garage for the steering and they say it's a known issue but no recall.
At the edge of the hood the paint is bubbling, my claim at Ford has been denied at under 4 years old.
The leaning edges of car hood has paint bubbles. The local Ford representative stated this was a classic fault of Ford in later models with aluminum hoods. He stated that moisture will penetrate the paint and cause bubbles. He stated that Ford motor will not correct problem nor will they repaint at their expense.
Paint is peeling on the edge of the hood. Two Explorers 2015 family owns and peeling in the same location. Contacted Ford and was told we had to buy a new hood. There are many complaints on the internet saying the same thing. This paint less hood needs to be recalled due to factory fault or repainted how ever Ford does it. Around 2000. 00 for a new one they told us. Paint should last more then 3 to 4 years.
Car hood paint is bubbling and painting. There have been no accidents and the car only has 33,000 miles on it. Ford will not cover it under the mfgr warranty since the in service date is over 3 years.
The SUV is only 3 years old we bought it new from the lot then. I noticed today the hood is bubbling up and the paint is chipping off. This drivers door is cracking at the seem. Very poor quality from Ford.
Paint on the hood is bubbling up and chipping off, causing corrosion where the paint has chipped off.
Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. The contact stated the hood paint is bubbling, chipping, and peeling. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact called capital Ford of wilmington 4222 oleander dr, wilmington, nc 28403 910) 799-4060 where informed to contact the manufacturer. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where photos where taken, the manufacturer was contacted who referred contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was 60,000. Ap.
I purchased this vehicle new from the Ford dealer in 2013. First issue, front edge of hood the paint has been bubbling and coming off. Rust is underneath. Ford refused to do anything about it. Second issue and most important, we have been losing the power steering function while driving, this has caused erratic steering as the electric power steering seems to turn on and off. The steering will bind and when you try to control the vehicle and over compensate and the electric steering re-engages, I'm all over the road. My vehicle was not part of the recall and Ford refuses to do anything about the issue other than fix it for $1900-$2300.
The hood on our 2015's paint is peeling off. We are told the same hood is on the 2016 Explorer and there is a recall on the paint. . . We have bumper to bumper warranty. How do we get this repainted.
2013 Ford Explorer, front (hood) is deteriorating, and holes in the metal are starting to rot thru paint is peeling and getting worse. My body and fender man tells me it can also affect the spring loaded and locking device of the hood, which in time can cause a failure of the hood being dislodged and blocking your vision. He also explained this is a problem with Ford products and there really is no fix. They hoods are aluminum and are installed on a steel body. Its not the paint job, its a dissimilar metal issue that only can be corrected by installing a new hood. I now understand this is a problem with a lot of Ford products. Help.
Over the past year or so, the paint on the hood of my Explorer has been bubbling and peeling along the perimeter. We brought it to our local Ford dealership. They took pictures and contacted the Ford headquarters. The local dealership was told, because my vehicle is no longer under warranty, they can't help. As I researched the issue to see if others were having the same problem, I found many complaints, lawsuits pending, and articles written about this same issue. I went through the proper channels, contacted Ford customer service online and through messenger, but still have been told it is not Ford's fault. I take very good care of my vehicles and have always purchased vehicles from Ford. My 2013 Ford Explorer looks like new from the inside. The outside looks fine, as well, except the hideous hood perimeter. The hood is embarrassing, period. I don't deserve the poor service I am getting from the entire Ford company. The fact that it is no longer under warrantly shouldn't matter with this issue. The paint should not be bubbling and peeling like this. Someone at Ford is to blame or whoever is in charge of the hood/paint/material to make the hood. I will keep fighting until Ford pays to have my hood redone. I have contacted zestar, the Ford ceo, president, etc. And a detroit free press journalist who wrote about Ford's transimission deceitful coverup. I am not asking for anything more than to have the hood of my car fixed. This is ridiculous. * the uploaded file below, it asks for a date in which this occurred. I do not have an exact date. It has been ongoing and is obviously getting worse as time goes on.
Paint peeling on hood. The front edge of the hood has peeling paint. It began just after the 36 mo warranty expired and Ford has not made any efforts to solve the problem. I recently saw another Explorer, same year, model with even worse peeling paint on the hood. I have included the picture of that car as well.
Takara recall the hood of my 2013 Ford Explorer has a corrosion on it. Paint is peeling and bubbling. The aluminum has a powder look to it and is week. After time hood could come unlatched do to aluminum corrosion. Ford is aware of problem but won't fix out side of 3/36000 mile warranty.
I have two complains about this auto 1) car paint in the hood looks bubbly and some is pealing. 2)inside the passenger door the fabric reaped below where the windows and door buttons are located.
The front edge of my hood is now corroded all the way across my aluminum hood. There are multiple 'rust' bubbles and now paint is falling off. The rest of the car is pretty much immaculate.
The paint on the hood is bubbling and peeling off. It has not been exposed to excessive brine or weather.
Paint bubbling on hood became visible after paint warranty was over. Ford advised may be covered by corrosion warranty. Brought to dealer who referred to Ford motor company. Ford reviewed photos taken by dealer and denied coverage stating corrosion had to be all the way through the affected area. Owner appealed their decision citing two prior Ford technical service bulletins for aluminum body part contamination by iron in painting process. Ford and dealer refused to fix the problem. I feel this corrosion may be a sign of a bigger safety problem.
After 2 years of use the paint on the front of the hood is bubbling. Clearly this is a manufacturing defect as this is a garage car and has been taken care of. On the advice of customer service, I took the car to the dealership who indicated that this is not a uncommon issue. The dealership told me to speak to customer service again. So, I called the Ford customer number and spoke to janet who continued to repeat that they are no longer responsible for the defect because it showed up after my allotted mileage for warranty. She refused to allow me to speak to a supervisor and said they would contact me within 1 business day. I am still waiting for that call. After the disturbing call with janet, I spoke with antoinette and she told me she would speak to the service supervisor and give me a call back after another days she called back telling me they would not help me with the cost. I can clearly see on the internet that this does happen to Ford Explorers and many others have complained. Ford has conveniently crafted their contract to easily exclude paint issues due to mileage when that has nothing to do with paint.

Recently, on the hood of my car, the paint has started bubbling. Apparently this is a known issue and Ford issed TSB about it. I have not choice but to replace the entire hood as there is no way to repair these areas.
Rust and paint bubbled along front edge of hood.
Rust and clear paint peeling. Door handles loose unable to open all 4 doors. I have to unlock from rear window to access vehicle. Unclear other than design of handles. Left front door handle completely broke off. Quote of $150 a door to repair. Will cost me $600. Very unsafe and problematic. Including a loss in value.
