48 Paint problem of the 2013 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

As with most Ford's my Explorer has significant paint bubbling on the hood. It is a known problem with Ford's and they never mentioned it to me as an owner. I only noticed it after an unrelated fender bender and the body shop pointed it out to me. My vehicle was already out of warranty by a few thousand miles but clearly the problem did not just occur after they warranty ended but I never though to look at the paint on my hood. If Ford had done the right thing and told owners to look out for this known defect and correct any defective hoods regardless of the warranty, it would have shown some loyalty to its customers. I am done buying Ford's and will advise anyone I know not to buy Ford.

49 Paint problem of the 2013 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

We bought our vehicle used in 2015 with less than 40k miles on it. It is our main, family vehicle. The first issues started with paint chipping on the hood. The Ford store we bought it from never stated this was a problem. We did notice it after having it at home and it has gradually become worse. I have had usaa inspect it and they said it looks like "someone drove it where there was high sulfur present"---near water or etc. The second issue is with the engine. On several occasions our vehicle has failed to turn over at the first start. Will sit there and make noises like it is trying but fail and turn off. One instance happened while we were driving on a street road. Car had trouble starting and then shut off randomly. We have contacted usaa and taken the vehicle to our local Ford dealership but they cannot seem to help resolve either issues. Upon conducting our own research I see that these are re-occurring issues with other owners, across the us and Ford has yet to resolve. Vehicle is unsafe.

50 Paint problem of the 2013 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

Paint on hood is bubbling. Dealer will not honor Ford's 5-year extended corrosion coverage period because the body panel is not showing a hole "though" the body panel. The warranty defines the coverage only if the body panel becomes perforated due to corrosion from normal use. However, nowhere in the warranty does it state it must be through the body panels. In my book, the definition of perforation is a pattern of holes, and the definition of a hole is a hollow place in a solid body or a cavity or a pit. The paint is definitely showing a pattern of cavities or pits yet the dealer does not agree.

51 Paint problem of the 2012 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 08/12/2015

Paint on hood is blistering - Ford knows about this issue and issued a TSB in 2004 to fix this issue in 2004 why are we still having this issue on a 2012 vehicle - dealer says Ford hq denied repair to hood paint since vehicle is out of 3 year 36,000 mile warranty - why is paint corroding on 3+ year old $34,000 vehicle? Ford should take care of this issue since it is known and devalues the vehicle by many $k.

52 Paint problem of the 2013 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 08/06/2015

With just over 37,000 miles on the vehicle, I noticed that the paint on the hood was bubbling and flaking off. It had obviously been occurring long before I first noticed it. I brought it to my Ford dealer who told me it is a common problem for those vehicles because the hood is made out of aluminum and vibration from driving causes the paint to fracture which results in this problem. He also told me that it was not covered under warranty because I had over 36,000 miles, even though the problem had been there when it still fell under that warranty. I then did some research on the internet and found several sites with an enormous amount of complaints from 2013 and 2014 Explorer owners who were having the same problem. (a few examples of the sites I saw are carcomplaints. Com, edmunds. Com, and RV. Net. A google search will provide many more). I then contacted Ford motor company directly and spoke to a representative there. They said they were aware of the problem but no recall was going to be issued, and nothing could be done regarding my specific problem. After complaining profusely and having my issue elevated to a regional manager, Ford agreed to partially pay for the repair. However, I (along with the many others who are having this problem) feel that this is a manufacturing defect and should be covered fully by Ford. While this may not be a "safety" issue, I am hoping that this complaint will at least have someone from your agency look into this matter to see if Ford should be forced to recall these vehicles due to this manufacturing defect. After all, a vehicle that is one to two years old should not be deteriorating in this manner. Any help or information you can provide is greatly appreciated. Thank you!.

53 Paint problem of the 2013 Ford Explorer

Paint is bubbling on the front edge of the hood.

54 Paint problem of the 2011 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 05/28/2015

Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that the paint bubbled and chipped on the vehicle. The vehicle had been taken to the dealer twice for the same issue and the dealer last told them that the hood would have to be replaced. The dealer and manufacturer stated that the hood would have to be replaced because it is aluminum and started to corrode. The manufacturer stated that the issue was no longer under warranty and would no longer be covered. The contact felt this was a safety issue because the hood is corroded. The first time the hood was repainted do to corrosion was 6/28/13. The vehicle had not been repaired. The current mileage was 20000. Rl.

57 Paint problem of the 2013 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 01/16/2015

The paint on the front edge of the hood started bubbling after about 2 years. After 3 years the paint started coming off. Currently there are 3 dime sized spots where the paint has come off exposing the corroded metal hood. It appears the hood was not properly prepped before paint. This is a widespread problem on Ford vehicles and should be recalled.

58 Paint problem of the 2012 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 01/01/2015

The hood has paint that is bubbling up and coming off. The hood is aluminum so it isn't rusting, it appears that that the metal was not prepped properly at the factory.

61 Paint problem of the 2013 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

The front hood paint has bubbled and peeled off the front edge. Appears to have bubbled in more places, now awaiting even more peeling. Obviously a paint defect. Although I will enter a date - it's been a constant defect. (speaking with other Ford Explorer owners - a common complaint. ) #2 also, for several years the car driver door sensor (?) light (hence the ceiling lights) stay on (although the ceiling eventually turns off while driving). This indication that the door is ajar / not closed is frequent and often and has been looked at by the Ford dealership in virginia several times - with no repair / fix. It is not constant but frequent.

64 Paint problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 09/20/2014

Paint job on engine hood is bubbling up. SUV has been regularly washed and waxed; so one would not expect problems with the paint job. Based upon internet research, Ford has paint job issues with vehicles sold from 2000-2005.

65 Paint problem of the 2012 Ford Explorer

Paint is bubbling/flaking along front edge of hood.

67 Paint problem of the 2013 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 09/03/2012

Recently traded a 2011 Ford Explorer for a 2013. The 2011 developed a corrosion problem with the seam on the front underside edge of the hood. We did not want our 12k mile car painted on so we traded it for a 2013 Ford Explorer we thoroughly inspected. 3 weeks and 300 miles later I opened the hood while cleaning the vehicle and the corrosion has already started causing paint to pop off the underside along the seam sealer. So far Ford has failed to take any action. Ford has a corrosion / paint issue with this model and other's with aluminum hoods.

68 Paint problem of the 2004 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 07/01/2011

The paint on the roof of my 2004 Ford Explorer is chipping. I spoke with two auto body shops and 1 Ford dealer, and they all said that the chipping is due to the fact that the primer did not adhere properly to the vehicle, so the paint is chipping. In reviewing this issue, I read online that there is a multitude of people experiencing the same issue. I spoke with Ford, and they told me that there is no financial assistance available to help me, although they acknowledged that this issue is their fault. I would like there to be a recall so that I can get this issue resolved.

69 Paint problem of the 2005 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 11/15/2010

2005 Ford Explorer has paint peeling along the roof rack. The dealership said this is not covered by Ford. While researching the problem on the internet, I found that this is a common problem for other owners.

70 Paint problem of the 2007 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 11/05/2010

Upon purchase, we noticed the hood paint was dulled. After ~1-2 years of owning the vehicle, the hood paint began to bubble and flake off. Now we have a decent vehicle with a horrible hood on our vehicle which has greatly depreciated the car.
