Pulled off side of road restarted ok took to dealer (jack byrne Ford) no code no idea what caused it, could not get to repeat . This vehicle is primarily driven on the highway we are deathly afraid that this will happen again at a higher speed and will result in a rear end collision. Spoke to the sr. 51 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 10/21/2011

While driving the vehicle, the smell of antifreez started coming into the car. My fiance' checked the radiator and overflow bottle and found out it was gas mixed with the antifreeze. My car's milage is 80100. I do not believe the car should have this issue at only 5 years. This problem/complaint should be investigated and damages should be covered by the dealership or manufacturer.

52 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2005 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 07/12/2011

While driving, when I applied the brakes, the car lurched and made a noise. About 1 minute after that, a warning light that stated "engine fail safe mode" and a little wrench showed up on the left of the instrument panel. I was driving home, and the car started to speed up without my increasing the speed using the gas pedal. The car continued to lurch off and on until I got home. I researched this problem on the internet and it seemed to be the throttle body assembly that had failed. Upon taking it to the mechanic, that is exactly what is was. The car was dangerous to drive, I could have been killed had the car's speed kept increasing. The repair was $1026. 00.

53 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2004 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 05/13/2011

1-"miles to e" have always registered as dashes after a fill up since 2004. Dealer says nothing is wrong and to add gas additive (which doesn't work) or I can have it fixed at my expense. Dealer has been sold and new dealer now has "no record" of my previous complaints-- whenever I had the car in for service I asked them to check it. I see plenty of other complaints for this same problem but Ford refuses to fix this as well. 2-back hatch below window has cracked recently. Husband had same vehicle different year and his cracked as well. Dealer acknowledges many vehicles with same problem but says there is no recall and Ford will not fix it. I see there is now a class action suit for this defect. Just wanted to go "on record" as another unhappy Ford owner (of over 40 yrs).

54 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2005 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 04/06/2011

"check fuel cap" light elluminates in '00-'05 Ford Explorers. There have been hundreds of reports of this issue occuring, and it is the result of emission failure parts in these vehicles. Each inspection and replacement of these parts is costing owners thousands of dollars in repairs, and is clearly a default of the company. Almost every report has shown trouble codes of p0455 or p0457, or both simultaneously. . Read more...

55 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 03/10/2011

Vehicle will not accept fuel when filling up at pump. I took the car to the dealership and they said it was because of a dirty emission canister. The canister was replaced 03/18/2011 and the problem has returned 03/19/2011. I believe this to be a Ford problem and not mine. I was also told that it got dirty because of the heavy snow we received this past winter. I'm curious, don't they sell these cars up north where it snows heavy every year? hopefully this issue will be looked into soon.

56 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Ford Explorer

57 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 01/21/2011

I have a 2002 Ford Explorer, original plugs in it from dealer. Today I had a plug ejected from the engine resting on top of the head. Luckily I kow about cars and had vehicle towed to repair shop. Incident is common in Fords and could lead to possible injury, since ejected plug could lead up to excessive gasoline vapors which could be ignited by loose plug causing fire.

58 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer

59 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2005 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 11/17/2010

Gas hand does not function properly, sometimes you may fill the vehicle up and the gas hand will show empty. Since the gas hand stopped working properly the service engine soon light stays on. No way of knowing if I'm almost out of gas. . So I have to keep filling it up so I won't be stranded on the side of the road.

60 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 10/17/2010

I noticed one day that my gas gauge showed empty when I knew I had gas, the next time I started the engine my gas gauge worked. From that day it works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. I am afraid that it will give out completely one day and can't afford to fix it. I have read many complaints about this problem and wonder why there is not a recall as I feel Ford should take responsibility here as it is clearly a defect.

61 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2005 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 07/20/2010

Have owned 2005 Ford Explorer since new. After 35,000 miles the gas gauge started to bottom out on empty followed by a service engine soon light staying on. The gauge will start working again off and on but it's not reliable. Tried running a fuel cleaner through it a couple of times and did nothing for it. Also the tire pressure monitor says it's reading a bad sensor in one of the wheels. This vehicle is well taken care of and babied by my wife. There seems to be alot of consumers having the exact same troubles with the same vehicles. Why is Ford not held liable for these defects? this was not a budget low cost car. We paid over $36,000. 00 for this SUV. Please help us in any way you can.

62 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer

64 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 1997 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 02/15/2010

Stuck accelerator on 1997 Ford Explorer with 58,000 miles. While driving on interstate 287/78 in NJ I tried to turn off the cruise control but instead the car accelerated uncontrollably to over 85 mph. I gained control by turning the engine on and off until reaching a safe place to stop. An njdot truck helped me and later that day I emailed what happened to Ford's customer assistance. I wanted them to have a dealer examine my Explorer to see if this was caused by a material defect of normal wear and tear, in which case I would repair it. They refused to help so I wrote a letter to dearborn and received a response saying the matter was closed (case # 1510510480). My wife said (and I believe her) that if she were driving it would have resulted in a crash. I noted that there was a recall on the 2002 escape that sounds like the same problem. I just want to prevent potential loss of life due to this, in my opinion, faulty design or manufacturer glitch. Njdot documented the case since I sent them a "thank you" and they responded. The vehicle put me and others on the highway in a life-threatening situation (viz a viz Toyota) but Ford is unwilling to consider the case. They want to treat this as an "out of warranty" condition but I believe it is potentially a product liability that if not corrected will cost lives and damage.

65 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 02/11/2010

Bought 2006 Explorer new. Around 14,000 miles engine problems started, have taken car in to Ford dealer where car was purchased about 7 times for basically same problem ~ engine light / car engine lunging . Mechanics did different things; replaced one defected part while under warranty, reset computer, but problem always came back. Sometimes happening before I made it home. Some times months later. Now they think maybe it could be the throttle body.

70 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2004 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 08/13/2009

My 2004 Ford Explorer has been killing when coming to a stop, slowing down and when I am driving at speeds up to 40mph. My power steering then goes. There are no warnings when this is going to happen. It is occurring daily and I then have to put the truck in park, remove the key and then restart. When I do that, it runs like it never happened. No check engine light ect. . . I have been calling the dealership about this from day one. At first I was told that if it does not fail when I bring it in it will be hard to say what it is. Then I called back because it was happening more frequently. I brought my truck in thurs. The dealership had it all day and said it was ready to go. I drove 1/2 mile down the road and the truck killed. I immediately called them back to let them know. I will be bringing it back next week. I am very worried about this failure and I feel that this is definitely a defect in the Ford.
